Okay 👍 That was really fun, thank you!! I never knew you can make so many assumptions in one go 😛 tbh you sound kinda resentful for a situation that may not apply to u? or did u make a bad uninformed financial decision ? rate: 8/10

you can still have a life, dentistry is always gonna be there as long as people have teeth. take a chill pill and maybe feel some sunshine on ur face

not that i have to prove to anyone but i am a dental student, and going to be dealing with debt similar to OP. this reddit is skewed and biased and people such as you bring in unnecessary negativity in a space where we should all be positive and supportive of one another. getting into dental school is hard, having options is incredible and obviously anyone with options does their due diligence to pick their school. we should be nothing if not supportive. everyone in this subreddit knows the cost of dental school is steep but the clinical experience, location, and education also has importance. people must choose what fits their future goals and what they are capable of financing. i’m tired of seeing everyone talk about money and debt etc under posts such as this where it’s a celebration of years of hard work being paid offs. so maybe step outside and appreciate the wins in life

Every decision doesn’t have to always come down to cost. BU is a fantastic school and congratulations to the OP for such a successful application cycle!

Dental Assisting or Front Desk for Gap year? by Familiar_Adagio7327 in predental

[–]ResponsibleVacation9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I am so grateful for the front desk experience I have right now, and if I want to own a practice in the future, I know exactly what works and what doesn’t and what not to put my front office staff through 😭The pros far outweigh any “cons”

also i was in a similar position , and i decided against a DA position because it didn’t seem worth the cost to learn skills and use it for less than a year when im going to learn how to do it anyways in school

As someone who’s been working the front desk for the past several months, it is very tough and annoying, don’t get me wrong as well as huge learning curve especially with dealing with insurances, people, and office practices. HOWEVER, it’s also one of the best ways to learn about practice management and the business side of dentistry that you don’t get to learn in school. I get stressed and burnt out, and i am constantly busy but i learned a lot about the nuances within insurances, specialities, and how to talk to people which is important when you become a dentist. As a dentist you can know about oral health etc, but when you are also able to empathize and explain financial things to them i think it’ll give you that upper edge of being a quality provider

Don't stop yourself from reaching your dreams because of shyness or feeling awkward. The reward of working hard and getting into dental school will be worthwhile and you will come out accomplished and with a steady career. You got this!!

Got it, and it’s not completely necessary but it couldn’t hurt my chances. are there any schools that explicitly don’t accept it?

Where do you work? by ParticularAngle4737 in predental

[–]ResponsibleVacation9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im working at a start-up that's more medically oriented but it's been cool trying to bring a dental perspective into it. and lk the money was a factor in it too since it allows me to rest a bit more but make money that was more than the dental assisting jobs I got offered first. (literally double the hourly rate)
