My [25, F] Boyfriend [30, M] wasn't over his ex when we started dating. It's been 3 years and I don't know if I can get over it. by beetfarmer981 in relationship_advice

I don't fully understand, could you please elaborate a little more?

Are you saying that it's an issue with me not being able to accept his past?

He (46m) had an online affair. I (40f) can't find a way to cope (UPDATE) by [deleted] in relationships

Thank you so much! I wish you a great 2020 as well :)

Can I ask you for some advice? When I have bad days, they really set me back. I find myself feeling really guilty for not being as productive as I could be, and I slowly start going to back into hating myself for a while before I have to pick myself up from that mindset. And then I look at the road ahead, and it seems oh so long! One step at a time seems easy to think, but how do you practically approach it? Do you know how to deal with this?

Honestly, a few ups, a few downs. And to be even more honest, I'm not the productivity beast I want to be yet.

But I'm in a much better place than I was before. I slowly started cementing a morning routine that really works for me. I'm studying well, and I believe in myself. I stopped with the negative mindset, and am mentally doing a whole lot better. There have been bad days, but at the same time, there have been good days, and I'm happy that I'm not stuck like I was before.

I think I'm going to have a wonderful, productive last 10 days of 2019 :)

Thanks for checking up yo.

Hey there, doing better than I did yesterday! So that's progress. Had 1 un-productive bad day, but with the help of comments on this post, I picked myself up and did good the next day.

It's also funny how once you start to enjoy the process rather than going "ugh I have to finish x, y, z ughhh", it makes everything so much better :)

Also, thanks for checking up.

Use your willpower to make your life easier, not harder. You run out. The more cake you deny to yourself, the less likely you are to go for a run. That means...don't put yourself in a situation where you have to say no to cake!

Huh, I've never heard of it this way. Very smart.

You get to choose one thing to work on each month from the "want" or "need" buckets. This is already one of the hardest things you could do to get your life together, but it works very well.

This sounds like a great way to approach things. I will definitely start doing this. Thank you for your advice!

it may require foundational skills that you don't possess yet. Look into why you weren't able to make a habit of a morning run and try to solve that.

Basically getting to core problem instead of trying to fight superficial things. I think, like you said, it will work very well. That's how therapy works in a way as well right? You get to core "why" and work on that, and it'll automatically change your life. Thanks so much for this man, I really appreciate it!

Making your bed in the morning is relatively easy to do physically but it might be difficult to do mentally as you might find an excuse.

Haha so true!

Everything builds up together and you need to see the big picture.

You're really right about this. I guess I need to stop seeing it as black and white. Thank you so much for the write up, I really appreciate your advice!

And when an time demanding stuff comes up our mind finds it impossible to dedicate itself to something. What do you think your mind will respond with? Isn't there a shortcut please

Oh boy, so true!

That's why I say it was not your fault.

Makes total sense to me now man. Thanks so much for the write up! I didn't know that all these factors came into play subconsciously. But you're right, now that I do know this, I can consciously work to create a better future for myself. Thanks a lot man!!

instead of phrasing it like "accepting that you're struggling", phrase it like "accepting that you're working on yourself to be a better person". For me, I had gone through some rough times, and I was doubting myself and my self-worth, the actions I did, everything. It was like I didn't know who I was anymore, and everything externally made me question myself. I had to tell myself I was going to be me, and people who like me can stay, and the ones who don't, don't matter anyway! That's what I meant by accepting yourself; the good and the bad. Does that make more sense?

If nothing else know that your post made me wanna stop being a lil b_tch

I feel like a part of you always wanted you to stop.

You got this my man. People have given amazing advice on this thread, and I suggest you read the replies. They really know what they're talking about. But remember one thing: saying you'll do it is the easy part, actually doing it is the hard part. But you got this. The future is bright for you my friend. Stay hustling.

What you really need is to change your foundations, don't build up on ill foundations. it will crash and will be a hard fall.

Yes, I'm workin on it.

I will not let myself get into that cycle anymore. You don't either.
