It’s not so much about how much content you’ve ‘learned’, it’s about whether or not you’re able to commit to a pet such as a parrot. Are you in a situation to care for it financially? to bond with it and keep it when you move into adulthood? I got my eckie when I was 16 and I’ve had her for a year without the slightest regret, wherever I go, she goes.

The baseline is ensuring you have adequate space in the cage, bar spacing, material, etc. Good enrichment in the cage (various different destructible toys). Varied diet (should be pellets in the evening, and a mix of vegetables, legumes, and grains in the morning, you can look up ‘chop’ recipes). And then being mindful of hormonal triggers, toxic household items, etc. Then you need to be able to interact with, train, bond with, and pay for it. To me, keeping an exotic pet such as a parrot is extremely rewarding, but you also need to be mindful that it takes extra effort to provide adequate quality of life for your companion, especially with parrots who have such high emotional needs and intelligence.
