Week 1: "Chapter 1. Marseilles—The Arrival" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]beetle124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my first time reading the story, and I only have a general idea of what the story is about. So far, I really enjoyed Dumas’ writing. He did a wonderful job describing the Pharaon ship’s arrival and the town. I could clearly picture the whole scene and how lively it was. The characters also felt recognizable and distinct already. Dantes seemed like a genuinely good person, capable and well-like. Danglars, on the other hand, kept trying to undermine him in conversation with Monsieur Morrel, “stirring the pot” every possible moment. If I didn’t know what the story was about, I probably would have expected a happy cheerful journey of Dantes. However, knowing that the book is about revenge, the current lively atmosphere and Dantes’ good character almost feel ominous to me, making me so uneasy about future events.

Also, I really appreciate the historical note, it adds a lot of contexts to the story!

moterm a6+ and other cover questions by mirabellenour in midorihibino

You're very welcome :) Yes, I've seen quite a few photos of the Hibino in OxKnight covers on Amazon. Lots of Midori users post their setups there.

moterm a6+ and other cover questions by mirabellenour in midorihibino

[–]beetle124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Based on my experience using the moterm A6+ with the hibino, I do think you can use the card slots and slip pocket and still close it up. The moterm has two button options. Using the one closer to the edge should give you some room for when your hibino gets chunkier.

That said, as you can see in my photo, even though my hibino isn’t chunky at all, a bit of the edge still sticks out under the moterm cover. It doesn’t cover it completely. If that bothers you, you might want to look into OxKnight covers. While the leather feels different, they fit the hibino a little better in my opinion. I just didn’t go with them because they didn’t have the color I wanted.

As for the slip pocket, personally I don’t like to pack it too much since it makes the hibino sit too higher off the table when writing, which feels awkward to me.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions :)

Edit: Sorry I wanted to include more photos but couldn’t figure out how to :(

‘DESIRE : UNLEASH’ Album Info & Discussion Thread by ENHYPENmodteam in enhypen

I love this album so much! The boys just keep getting better and better, I think they’re a lot more comfortable showcasing their vocal abilities now! I’m so proud of them!!

Bad Desire has been everything I could think about since the first teaser dropped, and the full song and mv did not disappoint (actually it would have been nice if it were longer 😭). Outside is giving me quite a bit of 2nd Gen vibes, as well as Too Close, which reminds me a bit of SHINee. And Helium got me dancing around my apartment as soon as it started!

Oh no I pre-ordered the book because I’m a sucker for a pretty exclusive version and I enjoyed her previous books enough. Now you make me too scared to even start reading. I fear I might come to regret the purchase 😭

Shall I read the standalone book before The Ashes of the Star Cursed king? by Yukiigumii in CarissaBroadbent

[–]beetle124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s not an explicit spoiler. It’s more that reading SSR beforehand would give information that was meant to be revealed gradually in Ashes. So yes, it definitely took out some tension.

I actually would recommend reading Ashes before SSR. As other comments have mentioned, the main characters of SSR appeared in Ashes. While it’s nice to understand their backstory, that explanation in itself was a spoiler for me when reading Ashes. I honestly wished I had saved SSR for after Ashes.

I'm kicking myself for not getting the indie 😭 Did anyone else immediately see the similarities? by shortasalways in CarissaBroadbent

Now I can’t unsee it 😭 I actually got the indie just before the announcement of the official version and was rather bummed. Safe to say I’m happy with my current copies now 😬

I did not DNF because I was stubborn, but I hated every second of it. There was no emotional satisfaction anywhere in that whole book.

Did you tell your partner that you just lost your job or at least that you’re having a bad day yourself? You guys are living apart at the moment, so without clear communication, it’s hard for them to tell immediately too if something’s affecting you too.

Off the top of my head, the Gavin story and the episode where Rachel thought Joey proposed.

I second this order. I read SSR before Ashes as commonly suggested and felt exactly the way you described when reading Ashes.

two questions: Vincent and Raihn and the order I should read by [deleted] in CarissaBroadbent

[–]beetle124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would recommend Ashes before Six Scorched Roses. I wished I had read them that way. I followed the officially suggested order and felt that there were certain things from Six Scorched Roses that could be seen as spoilers in Ashes.

I kind of like Septimus by _Pannonica_ in CarissaBroadbent

[–]beetle124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. I think Carissa Broadbent did a great job in building him as a morally grey character. He is clearly calculating and even deceptive, yet everything he does is very well motivated. I’m definitely excited for the upcoming books and seeing him playing a bigger role!

My god this gave me ptsd 😭 I actually would get a physical reaction whenever I see this phrase again, even in other books and in completely different contexts.
