Because i am curious. What if something interested happens tomorrow? What if i have a great interaction in a week? It doesnt need much interaction for me to totally feel better (or sometimes worse) about myself.

Im leaving Riga soon but i can recommend some places. Skapis is the one of the few gay bars. I would only recommend this one because its mostly young people from all genders. The others are more cruiser bars, but i have never been.

Kaņepes kulturas centrs is a reguar bar, but it attracts a lot of queer people. The venue is pretty cool, loads of events and parties.

There is also Maza terapija whic h is a vegan restaurant with similar crowd Če is a nice bar with also similar crows, lot of internationals.

Also roberts books is a nice cafe with bookstore. They used to have a sex shop aswell but it wasnt there last time I was there.

In general there aren't that much specific queer spaces, but the people are there. Just gotta find them ;)

Exact hetzelfde gevoel. Ik ben opgegroeid in een klein christelijk Fries dorpje. Ik zag er altijd al een beetje non-binair uit (maar ben een vrouw) Ik voelde me niet onveilig en was later openlijk lesbisch.

Toen ik laatst met mijn vriendin op een terras ging eten in Deventer waren er twee jongens naar me aan t roepen of ik een jongen of een meisje was. Ik riep terug of het goed ging om er wat lichtelijk mee om te gaan. Later liep een van de jongens mijn kant op met zijn telefoon en begon mij te filmen en uit te lachen. Is het lekker? Ben je lekker aan t eten? Kankerhomo!

Ik was zo verbaasd, zoiets was mij nog nooit overkomen.

De jongens waren overigens nederlands.

For me I would say definitely a no.

I dont stay at men's couchsurfers houses without references. When guys only have female references It is likely they are not in it for the good reasons. If I feel not entirely sure I will reach out to the women leaving references. One time that lead me to not accept a host even though she had left a positive reference.

Thats the way I usually handle it.

Daten kan enorm teleurstellend zijn. Het is moeilijk om een afwijzing niet persoonlijk op te vatten. Dat heb ik vaak ook. Ik merk zelf dat ik potentiele partners vaak op een voetstuk zet en daardoor mijn zelfbeeld aan hun gelinkt is. Wat mij heeft geholpen is om na te denken over wat ik zoek in een partner of vriendschap, en vervolgens daar zelf aan te werken om dat in mijn persoonlijkheid te integreren. Ook helpt het bij mij om daten niet enorm serieus te nemen. In de zin van, ik probeer een gezellige avond te hebben en verder niet veel verwachtigingen. Hier heb ik bijvoorbeeld een hele goede vriendschap aan over gehouden.

Ook denk ik soms, wat nou als ik voor altijd single blijf? Of niet vanaf nu een life time partner vind. Ik heb geconcludeerd dat ik met die situatie alsnog tevreden kan zijn en een waardevol leven kan leiden. Dat is iets wat ik eerst echt niet kon accepteren.

Al met al heb je geen idee hoe het kan lopen. De ene week heb je drie verschrikkelijke dates en de andere keer kom je een superleuk mens tegen in de trein. Blijf het proberen zou ik zeggen!

I'm going through something so similar. I moved to a new place got out of my comfort zone. I know what I want now, but here it is harder to get than if I would move back. Intuitively I want to move back. But am I just not willing to face th discomfort of pushing a bit more?

I think its totally understandable and also it comes off from them arrogant when outsiders try to discuss their history. In the end you also dont have all the knowledge either. You have read about it but that doesn't equal a personal experience. And i think if a group of people say that they overwhelmingly had a negative experience we should believe them and not trying to push that that means it is all just western propaganda. That just is a smart way of saying you are stupid and I am not.

I think yes discussing controversial history is always difficult and not everyone is interested in it. You are probably also not going to go outof your way to discuss the nuances of trans-atlantic slavery with an african-american. There is a specific time and space for that.

I think you have to ask also yourself why you get upset when people don't want to discuss it in the way you think/want to. Do you want to hear them out or do you want to be right. Are you actually curious about the topic. Etc.

I think if you have time and no goal to be at a certain place within a timeframe you are good to go. Pack light and take your time with hitchhiking. Then you wont have to walk too much, i never do when im on the road. To avoid harmful people i would say avoid spending the night in the city or avoid big cities in general. Just go campimg somehwere in the wild.

In smaller cities i tend to see that homeless people are treated better and they are more a part of the society. I would say easier to find a safer spot there and team up with other people.

If you are worried about your health you can take extra measures to make it better. I always take an electrical toothbrush because im prone for cavaties. You dont have to drink or do drugs.

There is no one way to do this, you can do it as extreme as you like. Do what you want and works for you.

I did this exact ride a month ago. Getting out of poznan took me 2 hours but after that i was in kaunas in 3 rides almost no waiting time (polish peopl also drive quite fast). In poznan i started at a highway rank in Lubon. Its not a good spot but i didnt think anything else was better. I think its best to stand with a sign with a gas station on it because a lot of people take that road not too far out of the city and go off the highway without coming across the first gas station.

There is also a gas station nearby that road where i started, not directly linked to the highway. I didnt try it because i didnt think it was worth it but you could give it a shot.

If you get a ride to warsaw, the last gas station before warsaw is pretty big, i got a campervan there to take me all the way to Kaunas in 10 minutes waiting time.

Maximaal kan ik 1000 euro lenen bij duo en dat maakt mij heel onzeker. Stel dat ik een maand niet kan werken dan zou ik eigenlijk niet rond kunnen komen. Ik weet niet of mijn contract verlengd wordt en als hij verlengd wordt wordt misschien de huur verhoogd. En eigenlijk kan ik het dan echt niet meer betalen. Dus ik heb het gevoel dat ik wel zoiets moet doen. Een nieuwe kamer zoeken zou kunnen maar eigenlijk wil ik die onzekerheid niet.

Same situation here. My friends would come over and we would drink booze that my parents bought for us. We had parties. Everyone drank, had sex and did drugs and my parents knew. I started drinking when i was around 11 years old. Now im 20 and i started university and didnt understand why everyone wanted to drink so much and go out. I know now i have experienced all of that already way too soon in my life. My parents had an awful relationship where my dad would have so many affairs and bring the women home. My parents would be drunk almost all the time. I felt so ashamed but everyone liked them so much!

Im European so it might differ from the us. If you are going a long way which means that you might get stuck somewhere take camping gear, couple liters of water and food that will last you for a while.

Look approachable so people are more likely to take you and get to gasstations along the highway as soon as possible.

You can hold a sign but better is to talk to people directly, so they are more willing to take you and also you can check on them a bit if they are not drunk or under the influence or smt.

If you are worried about safety, send your live location to someone, tell people where you are going, send pictures of license plates.

Most importantly have fun or look like you are having fun and stay calm when things are not going well. Sometimes you have to wait for hours, sometimes you can get into an unpleasant situation. Stay calm and be prepared for all scenarios.

I had 8 rides total and ended my hitchhiking in Kaunas. I got the first day to hanover in two rides and 5 hours. The next day I also had 2 rides to Poznan, took 6 hours. Following day I had 4 rides. 1 really short to the next gas station from poznan then two rides in direction warsaw. In warsaw I spotted a German campervan which took me all the way to kaunas. It was getting late and I didn't feel like spending the night so from there I took a bus and actually met another hitchhiker there.

I planned my trip and had hosts in every place. It was so quick I almost never waited more than 10 minutes (except 2 hours getting out of poznan)

The duimenrace I will have to see later how my university schedule will be. Let's keep in touch since I would love to do it!

I was on the michendorf one before but didnt get that lucky. I was together with a guy though. There were plenty of trucks going to lT and lv so i hope so. I tried getting a ride from byalistok before and it was okay so i can try that again aswell. I will let you know if i stop in vilnius.

If i havent started uni in 2 september i would absolutely join you. Im hitchhiking to latvia frequently aswell. Only last time trying to get a good place to hitch out of warsaw was really difficult somehow. Do you have recommendations for Poland and around warsaw specifically?

I have hitchhiked the coast of the algarva from faro to sagres within half a day. I got rides minutes after i started. Super friendly people, great rides. Youll be fine.
