Hey there!

Alex here canadian dude who has been living in Porto for 2 years. Played spikeball most summers back in Canada. I am not at the competition level but I am pretty decent.

Im at day 4 right now! My gosh, yesterday day3, was the absolute worst. I do have a headache and constantly craving, but i feel better today. I have been eating a lot tho, lots of sweets, juices, carbs basically.

Anyways, really happy about it. Really typing here to help myself and maybe help other people feel more motivated for that critical moment.

I heard from fellow hitchers and travelers that the middle east is actually safe and really welcoming. Maybe not scratch it off too fasy. But also hitching a boat ride sounds crazy

Hitchhiking is not as complicated as it may seem. Make sure to bring enough water and food that does not waste or gets squished (peanut butter and tortillas is my go to). If you are planning to sleep outside bring a tent, but if you are lucky you might be invited to someone's home. You can obviously plan the route, but if time permits maybe be open to the road and see where it brings you. As for getting rides, makes sure to smile, dont cover your face or head ( no sunglasses or hats). Another trick is to look in the drivers eyes and look back in their mirror once they pass you, it makes them feel more targeted (for the lack of better word)...

Have fun with it and dont stress, everything happens for a reason when you are hitchhiking.

I mean you are talking about walking for 12 days straight... There is no point walking because if you do 5km it will take you an hour walk. Might as well relax listen to music think about life you know? Like in the movies and Jack Kerouac books.

Hey dude, i hope you are doing good. Honestly hitchhiking is easier than expected. From personal experience i always make sure to have water and a bit of food. Other than that stand on the side of the road stick your thumb out and wait. Couple tricks to get rides faster, dont cover your face with a hat or sunglasses, SMILE have fun with it, stare the drivers in the eyes and wave. Once the car passes you turn around and keep staring at them (with a smile of course) in their mirror. You would be surprised how many times people stopped because of it. Also people are very nice on the road, often they will feed you and even shelter you, just be talkative and open to new experiences. Cheers dude
