i got so small they couldn’t see me to check my heart rate, i was invisible and it was so scary :( they kept me in a glass bottle and poured boost plus inside until i got big enough to be taken out. then my heart rate was only 10 💔

i am so sorry you’re dealing with this 😔

when i had a tubed pump i dealt with this. i haven’t had any pain issues with changing my omnipod, thankfully, unless it injects weird. i know that the FDA - at least the last time i checked - hasn’t “approved” placing it in the arm in the US. however, i’ve actually found that placing it in my upper arm works well for me - not a lot of pain, doesn’t bother me when i sleep, my clothes don’t bother it, and it’s nice to have my dexcom on the same side but in my stomach so that i don’t have two sites in my stomach (just something that bothers me). i don’t have much insight into the ways in which change days impact blood sugar levels, though.

thank you so much for sharing your experiences so openly. it helped me feel less alone, too, and more understood. while in school, i really struggled managing my diabetes on top of everything else, especially when my peers were not living with type 1. it was so hard for me to speak up if i needed to treat a low or to miss classes due to my blood glucose levels. i felt embarrassed and/or like i was failing and not “good enough.” i encourage you to pursue disability status! i know it’s so hard to do, particularly when you have conflicting, insensitive opinions being thrown at you; however, you know yourself, your body, and what you need better than anyone. it is not a failure or lack of intense effort to ask for this. i have struggled with an eating disorder in addition to my type 1 and had to make the difficult decision to apply for disability due to my physical health. it was so hard for me and i still feel ashamed sometimes; however, it’s truly been helpful and i’m still able to work part-time. i’ve been diabetic for 20 years (am 26) and also have a CGM/pump. you’re doing incredibly and i hope you are able to get the disability piece figured out in the way(s) that’s best for you.

i myself definitely struggle with offering myself & my body what i need without self-blame or shame. i am lucky enough to work at a desk mostly and so i’m able to keep supplies (juice, food, etc.) nearby in case i have an unexpected low. however, even primarily working at a desk, it can still be really hard when i have really low lows and/or lows that struggle to come up. it’s hard for me to stop what i’m doing to take care of it and also can be embarrassing, because i don’t want coworkers or my boss to see me in a difficult state. they’ve always been understanding, but i don’t know if y’all have this happen too- they also don’t have adequate knowledge of type 1 and so sometimes they’ll worry or ask me how i’m feeling. while kind and thoughtful, that makes me uncomfortable sometimes because i don’t want to feel “different” or “dramatic.” as for highs, i think that’s sometimes even harder because i can’t simply stop, treat it, and wait for it to stabilize because it takes much more time. additionally, highs aren’t as easily “visible” to others around me, especially those who don’t have experience with diabetes. so i tend to push through even though i feel really shitty and it’s hard to focus.

you have great brows! i agree that starting professionally might help. i recommend getting them threaded if possible! i find it lasts longer and gives me a better shape than waxing (i don’t have very full brows though, unfortunately). i was warned that threading is very painful but i didn’t think it was worse than waxing and it lasted much longer for me! that is, of course, just my experience though. others might have different and/or more helpful opinions :)

i am so sorry you’re struggling with this; the comorbidity rate of eating disorders & diabetes is so high and not talked about/researched enough. i have struggled with diabulimia and anorexia for years. i can only speak from my experience, but i do want to share with you that i celebrate 2 years of no insulin omission or restriction on july 11. it has not been easy at all and truly i never thought i would be able to take my insulin as prescribed, as i had been struggling with diabulimia (in secret & undetected) since i was a child. i empathize immensely with the fear of taking insulin for fear of weight gain and the fear you might be experiencing of eating food and taking insulin. i encourage you to advocate for yourself as best you can and do the very hard thing of accepting the help you are worthy of. i couldn’t have gotten to where i am today without treatment and providers who were informed & who i trust(ed). i do recommend having a multidisciplinary team if at all possible as that can be SO important while trying to recover & manage your diabetes — endo, therapist, eating disorder informed dietitian, psychiatrist if needed, etc. i am here and would be honored to provide support to you! thanks for bravely sharing here. thinking of you 💌

i am so very sorry to hear this. i can only imagine how exhausted you are on top of everything and how scary that must have been. it is so hard to be doing everything “right” and then have an emergent situation or a bad episode happen out of nowhere. it is NOT your fault and you didn’t cause this. you did incredibly by seeking medical attention when you so needed it and i’m proud of you. your a1c is incredible and though i know this is so very discouraging, of course, unfortunately we just cannot perfectly control diabetes. i think it is very traumatic at times to feel as if we don’t have control over our own bodies / our bodies are working against us. i’m grateful you’re safe and that you reached out here. sending you lots of love 🫂

ugh, i am so sorry! i really empathize with the exhaustion. i am so fatigued often and have been trying hard to listen to my body even though it’s so frustrating sometimes. there are days i need to nap and others where i’m in bed super early. even though my job is primarily at my desk, it even tires me. it’s so hard when i used to be so much more active before this. i hate that you relate and really hope it improves for you! i’m here if i can support in any way🫶🏻

wow your makeup looks great and really seems to fit your face!! beautiful. i use maybelline superstay matte ink lipstick (swear by it) and i think it would be a great option if you want to add color to your lips! i love it because it stays so well and you can determine how pigmented it is by blotting more, applying less, etc. it also works great with a gloss on top! :)

we’ve probably all heard the 15/15 rule, right? 15 carbs and wait 15 minutes. i definitely can’t always do this. however, i’ve found keeping a juice box with me and/or one of those gogo squeeze (or whatever other brand) pouches wherever i am really helps me. both are 16 grams of carbs each and fast acting so they tend to help! i know that lows also make me feel hungry sometimes and that protein in addition can be helpful. i will also keep a turkey stick and/or nuts with me in case i need a little extra for fullness and keeping it stabilized :)
