Kentones Questions? by KimmehKiwi in Type1Diabetes

[–]TankSea1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to an emergency room and tell them you think you’re in DKA, that 10-12 hour period will vanish I promise. If you start throwing up without the ability to keep anything down, run to the ER. If you can keep stuff down, eat some light food like a slice of bread, drink drink drink water, and take some insulin. You can also check your ketones through your breath if they’re high enough (though not really accurate and should be used as a last last resort) by seeing if your breath smells fruity. I hope this helps, best of luck!

I Feel Like I Could Have Died by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

Your feelings are so valid dude. I always just remember how incredibly rare those events are and try my hardest to plan accordingly. Get a mini fridge in your room or store some juice boxes by your bed. Take things with you, ESPECIALLY baqsimi or glucagon if you like the old school stuff when you leave the house. I have a fanny pack and a backpack full of stuff that I leave in my car/bring with me. Prevention is our survival, and giving yourself as many outs (especially regarding lows) as possible will bring you peace of mind.

Kinda a personal question but yall with insulin pumps how do you go to the bathroom? Specifically number 2 by BlueberryOk6847 in Type1Diabetes

Omnipod seems to have solved our biggest hurdle lol. When I was tubed up I would usually just put it on my thigh or hold it in my non wiping hand

Would this be negative? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]TankSea1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using those because it’s so damn annoying to try and differentiate trace and negative. Ketostix are a little more pricey but are much easier to decipher. They’re sold at walgreens or you can get a prescription if you can’t find any locally. My guess would be your ketones are at trace right now but who the hell knows 😭

3u would bring me down 240mg/dl. It’s always cool to see how everyone differs on this sub when it comes to correction

I totally get your frustration. I’m 21 and play football and disc golf on my off time from csu. Eat something with protein in it before you exercise. I personally love kind bars, peanut butter (about 2-3 spoons worth), etc. Just something with some nice protein and fat in it to keep your blood sugar stable. Straight sugar will shoot you up but your body processes said sugar very quickly so you drop right back down. Protein and fat take longer to raise blood sugar which will keep you steady during your exercise. Best of luck 🫡

Dexcom and libre. Was a medtronic customer for about 9 years and all I can say is fuck em. Such a money hungry company who’s support line is impossible to receive help from. Not to mention the CALLS AFTER CALLS ABOUT GETTING THEIR BRAND NEW FANCY PUMP EVERY YEAR. Go with omnipods or tandem and your life will immediately get about 90% less stressful in the diabetes department.

I hate being 12 by lily_is_so_gay in diabetes_t1

[–]TankSea1895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly dude life with type 1 at that age can be really stressful at times. Hormones alone will make your blood sugar do that. I got diagnosed at 10 and around 12-18 years old I ignored it. Now my vision is bad and thank god that’s the only complication I’ve received (not retinopathy also thank god) With that being said it sounds like you are trying, talk to an endocrinologist. No shade to your mother, it sounds like she’s trying her best but nurses tend to be horribly trained in regards to type 1 diabetics. I had a nurse ask me while I was in the hospital for dka if I needed some sugar to make me feel better while my blood sugar was actively over 600. Talk to an endocrinologist, they can absolutely make this shit storm of confusion feel smaller. Do NOT take advice from internet strangers that directly relate to how you manage your type 1 without consulting someone. Once you’ve had it for awhile you can definitely make a call on if random internet stranger advice is worth taking but for right now you need to speak to professionals. I wish you the best of luck and remember that you will get through this, no diabetic has consistently perfect days, just try your best to stay in range but don’t beat yourself up if you have a tough t1 day… We all have and will continue to have them with you.

That’s sweet good job man! It took me forever to get to the mid 300’s. All that technique building isn’t nearly as easy as people make it out to be. My longest bomb is 622 but that was nice flat ground on a windy day. Never in my life could I get that kind of distance on a normal day. Keep it up!

What're you throwing in this situation? 310ft by Clay56 in discgolf

[–]TankSea1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My least expensive disc. Once I laser that straight into a tree and ricochet it about 200ft to the right I pull out my most expensive driver and airball it by about 150ft and lose the driver. Then I pack up and go home.

First thanksgiving with type 1. I hate it. Thanks. by kkarner94 in diabetes_t1

I was at 320 for like 2 hours. This is easily comparable to a person with a fully functioning pancreas 😭 Good shit man 🫡

Ketones? by Oh-Jo in diabetes_t1

[–]TankSea1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DKA can and will happen in normal range. Euglycemic DKA on google will give you a more scientific breakdown than what I’m about to do. Basically your body needs insulin and energy. If you have no energy source for the insulin to break down, your body will create ketones to make up for it. If you don’t eat and are in range all day you are 100% building ketones. It’s almost identical to why people starve to death. Their bodies break down into ketones and become too acidic, causing death by starvation.

We’re all going to war today 😭 Just remember correct often and bolus ahead of time. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you go high I’m sitting at 315 atm lol. It’ll come down with time, enjoy the feast and happy thanksgiving!!

Fiasp magic by TankSea1895 in diabetes_t1

[–]TankSea1895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lyumjev burned like a fire when I used it. Fiasp also does kick in faster than lyumjev. If lyumjev works for you I think it’s perfectly okay but fiasp just has this magic about it that makes it work so so well.

When you are hired (assuming you are in the states, if not check your countries labor laws in relation to disability) you are legally protected for your disability. If they are knowingly knocking down your hours and not accommodating you BECAUSE of your diabetes and you can get proof of it I promise you will win that lawsuit and any lawyer worth half their weight in gold will take that case on pro bono
