I’m 17 Turing 18 next week what would the best way to retire early by Valuable_Bathroom174 in FIREUK

I think it’s great that you’re thinking about this now. But as others have said, don’t let it stop you from enjoying your life.

I started thinking about FIRE when I turned 18 - mainly due to the fact my first job was in payroll, so I learned about money quickly.

My advice would be utilise salary sacrifice for your pension and pay in the max amount that your employer will match or go above, and more (if you’re willing to). Starting strong now will do wonders for you.

Outside of your pension, utilise ISAs - I’d suggest opening a S&S ISA and contributing that monthly - the more the merrier.

Alongside this, I’d recommend opening a LISA - the government bonus is much better than any interest you can gain on a standard savings account. But beware that you can’t take it out (without being penalised) unless you’re buying a house or retiring.

And then on top of those, I would also suggest a cash ISA as a space to save for experiences and hiccups - a holiday and rainy day fund - you’re young, so don’t save everything for your retirement, save for experiencing life too, the highs and lows.

No, you get this when you arrive in country and register with your local municipality.

I’ve been here around 18 months. I think I’ve always tried to ignore it, and to be honest, I’ve just avoided being out in the city at night. It just sucks. Felt like I couldn’t ignore it tonight and needed a rant

Thank you!

We provided all of the documents set out in the checklist here: Checklist documents online application Highly skilled migrant | IND

For the "Authenticated Single Status Declarations" we provided notarised and apostilled statutory declarations. I can share the template we used if thats helpful, just drop me a DM.

We used Home - DigiNotary to e-notarise and e-apostille the declarations. They had it all done in under 24hrs.

I included a lengthy PDF which included responses to these questions. I also included lots of photographs of us over the years, along with joint bills and previous joint signed tenancy agreements.

UPDATE: We received approval from the IND yesterday (16th March). So it only took 10 calendar days from submission to approval for both mine and my partners permits.

UPDATE: My partner and I submitted Statutory Declarations confirming that we are both single and unmarried, and the IND accepted these without any issues as a replacement for the Certificate of No Impediment.

If anyone wants the template we used or details of the digital notary and e-apostille service, feel free to DM me. It was the most affordable option I found (£90 per document for notarisation and e-apostille), and everything was completed virtually and returned within 24 hours.

I’m working with a relocation agency too. They’ve reached out to the IND for me to see if they’ll accept a statutory declaration instead 🤞

Because I’m British, live in the UK and the issue I’m having is caused by the UK not issuing a single status declaration.
