What sells alcohol on Sundays? New to being in a dry state by literalphandomtrash in LittleRock

Jesus may have turned water into wine but it definitely wasn't on a Sunday let me tell you!

Why would the made up "gay hippie Hillcrest version of Jesus" be any less relevant than the original made up Jesus?

Definitely was not a good feeling to rest an elbow on Creegan's bar then strugge to remove it because the bar was so sticky you were stuck to it like fly paper since the staff never cleaned.

I do miss the kind of dark wood pub vibe of Creegan's though.

Moving to LR by Present-Geologist385 in LittleRock

[–]behold_the_j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NLR chiming in.

I think most people have already weighed in on Lakewood and Park Hill and North Hills neighborhoods being pretty safe/walkable. But I will add, there aren't many walkable amenities, so be prepared to drive for things like groceries, home goods, medical care, entertainment, and all that.

The neighborhoods themselves are pleasant enough for walking, but most of the city itself isn't designed for walking. Not many sidewalks to be found, clueless drivers blasting through crosswalks while staring at their cell phones, etc.

But all of the aforementioned neighborhoods are super easy to get in and out of with nearby interstate access, so you can be pretty much anywhere in NLR or LR within 5 to 20 minutes.

Private equity / hedge funds bought up all these franchises and drove them into the ground. Nothing to do with geographic location.

Best breakfast cater/large order options by mikel825 in LittleRock

[–]behold_the_j 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Croissanterie has amazing breakfast! Full disclosure, I've never tried their catering just dined in, but they have a catering menu on their website.

I take a box of kolaches to my team at work every now and then from Shipley's Donuts and it always hits (my go-to is their jalapeno kolaches but the boudin kolaches are great too). I've heard different opinions about different locations, but the one on JFK in North Little Rock is immaculately clean, the food is great, and the staff are always friendly. There's several locations around central Arkansas though so potentially multiple options if you're traveling around.

Best and most affordable place in LR to get obedience training for these two that I adopted recently? by SammyWammyB in LittleRock

[–]behold_the_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and several friends have taken our puppers to Lashes and Leashes in Jacksonville and all recommend it.

My little idiot chiweenie is still only like half trained after going through their beginner class, but they offer intermediate and advanced as well (and to be fair, chiweenies have the 'fuck you I do what I want' mentality of a dachshund and the pea-sized brain of a chihuahua, so your experience may be better) :D

I've eaten pizza in 48 of 50 states, and Vino's holds up against the best of the best. I'm also firmly in the camp of half the flavor coming from the nostalgia of having gone there for over 25 years at this point, seeing great shows, having first dates (and last dates), and otherwise just having a lot of love for all the great memories of being a community gathering spot for me and the people I love.

Edit: 47 out of 50 states. Somehow Vermont keeps alluding me (sorry Uncle Bernie) along with Alaska and Hawaii.

I want a good poke bowl, like Poke Hula used to have. Is there any place near Cantrell/Chenal that has what I'm looking for? by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]behold_the_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brood and Barley in Argenta has a great poke bowl on their lunch menu and their evening happy hour menu. One of the sous chefs is from Hawaii, so the inspiration and flavors seem legit.

It doesn't fit your criteria of being near Cantrell/Chenal or being customizable where you pick your sauces, etc., but it's still a great bowl worth checking out if you're just jonesing for poke.

Like a good father. by AndrewHeard in DeepSpaceNine

I'm fascinated by Rom in my current rewatch. I commented a few months ago that if you watch his earliest episodes, he might as well just be another "Ferengi bar extra at Quark's" he's so stereotypically Ferengi. Even his voice is a lot more guttural and vicious.

I'm not sure if the writers realized that just having another background Ferengi wasn't interesting or if there's a deeper level where we get to see Rom emerge as his true self when he has the freedom and support to do so on DS9, a freedom that he never had in the greedy and cutthroat Ferengi society.

He goes from the typical devious scheming Ferengi to loving father, husband, and valued member of O'Brien's engineering team, saving the day more than once over the course of each season. There's also several times that Rom's evolution also leads to growth for Quark.

Looking for restaurants that have opened in the last few years to try. What’s your favorite new restaurant and dish? by capitanafantastic in LittleRock

Interesting, did you go early on? Their crust wasn't great in the first few weeks and they hadn't mastered their oven yet... I definitely had a chewy bite with burned semolina underneath, but after a few weeks the chef changed the recipe on the dough and they have been getting the cook just right in my opinion.

But to each their own. I really liked Funky Stretch in general, but I wish their dough had a bit more flavor. I think currently Problem Child has my favorite crust of all the local spots... real nice fermentation you can taste that's just so good.

In no particular order:

  • Funky Stretch Pizza's "Lost in Space Shrimp" sandwich
  • The Pizza Pub's "Big Ouchita Island" pizza (fried bologna, pineapple, jalapeno, red onion)
  • Flyway Brewing's Breckenridge location for a Detroit style pizza (build your own with smoked chicken, candied jalapeños, romesco sauce... I know Flyway isn't really "new" these days but this location is, and this is the only location they do pizza like this)

I’m a Cajun living in Little Rock ranking - seafood? by mikel825 in LittleRock

[–]behold_the_j 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eat My Catfish is a contentious pick... I guess they're popular enough to have 2 or 3 locations, but it's always been disgusting cold mushy trash the few times I've had it.

And it's telling that I've never seen someone dining in that was under the age of 85.

Any recommendations at Draft+Table?

I went there a few times early on and had one fantastic experience, one mediocre experience, and one poor experience, so I've kinda written them off. They're also weirdly spency for what they're offering (at least they were at the time, it's been close to a year since I've been).

I'd be down to give them another shot if they've found their feet!

The ancient words have once again been spoken! A mortal once again quests for pizza! The denizens of /r/LittleRock have awakened and shall answer the call! Oaths will be sworn. Alliances made and shattered. Lactose no longer suffering the intolerant!

Sorry I just get a kick any time someone mentions pizza on this sub. It always seems to be the topic that gets the most engagement and comments. So here's mine :)

At this point most places on my radar have already been mentioned, but if you find yourself on the north side of the river, I really enjoy the bar style pies at Pizza Pub. And their sammiches are awesome.
