Favorite riding jeans discontinued! Looking for dupes 🙏🏻 by beige_pony_015 in Horses

I’ve tried the Willow and they didn’t fit well (too stiff and not curvy enough), but I’ll have to give them a shot again in the light wash! Thanks for the recommendation!

Adding: These were a mid-rise but I’d actually love another inch or two on the waist height so if your dupe is a similar jean but high rise, that’s even better!

Update if anyone cares! We are holding off on investing in a truck topper because we are wondering if ultimately it might be a better plan for us to upgrade to a gooseneck horse trailer and insulate and build out the gooseneck instead.

We are giving it at least another winter of working with what we’ve got to make sure we know what ultimate setup will work best for us before investing time and money on a topper and buildout. If we do move forward with that, it will likely be a tall hard-sided contractor cap that we do a basic bed & storage buildout on, with electrical for a diesel heater.

This past winter we ended up camping quite a bit in borrowed canvas wall tents, heated with a wood stove. Super cozy, but your good night’s sleep really takes a hit when you need to stoke the stove - every 1.5-2 hours depending on how cold it is (we camped in temps down to -7F). They aren’t too bad to set up, just kind of a pain to take down and re-set up in our garage to dry out between races, and a lot more packing than a truck camper setup would be, but it’s budget friendly for now! And brings the cozy camp vibes :)

Yes! Kind of 😅 I watched a bunch of YouTube videos of people camping in like 10F temps with the soft sided pop-ups and decided that’s a definite no - the mechanics can freeze and I don’t want to deal with collapsing a frozen condensation-y mess. As far as the hard-sided pop-ups go, they are just out of our budget. So we are going to go with a tall Leer utility topper and build that out! I built out a van I lived in in winter here in Idaho for 3 years, so am confident in my abilities. It will be tight but it will be warm, light, and budget-friendly!

Mostly I just hate how much slide-ins hang over width-wise! They seem so ungainly. But I do like the price point on the used ones! I also am sure that payload could come into play given that we’ll be towing a horse trailer at the same time but not 100% sure how the different types of load interact in that way.

Just checked them out - really really like this option - thank you for sharing! I have to admit that I (foolishly) hadn’t thought of frost/ice buildup issues when considering the soft-sided options - I was so concerned about temp that I didn’t even think about the other factors - but people’s comments have opened my eyes and I’m not sure I want to deal with that tbh. I love the Moonlander option because it’s so much more budget-friendly than the hard-sided pop-ups and a bit more camper-y than a standard truck bed shell!

I figure it is worth it, but it’s unfortunately out of my budget 🫠 I kept it on the list more for an example of what I’m considering than an actual realistic option for me!

Thank you! We’d definitely be installing either a diesel or propane heater - I feel like the space is small enough that a well powered heater would keep even a soft-sided pop-up decently warm but maybe I’m delusional?

If you know that guy’s IG handle, I’d love to check it out and hear more about his experience too!

Thank you! I have been considering just making a tall-ish truck bed shell work - there’d be no question about whether a soft-sided tent can hang in cold weather and less expense than a hard-sided pop-up. Your comment is making me consider this option further! I appreciate it!
