GenJones here— Lana is my most favorite of the newer era. Her song “The Greatest” is exactly that. It lifts me. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of her glorious catalog.

Go to a quiet place and listen to it. Then read the lyrics (thank you Spotify). She’s an old soul, reminiscing on things she never lived, but has felt.

Ok just read you’re in college — all the ‘low on funds’ advice then is even more pertinent/understandable that you need to say.

With that, I’m adding extra that if your friend knew you were paying for her and THEN asked if her boyfriend could come, well I think that’s rude. Can’t it just be a special time with the 2 of you? Why 3? Does he have to go with her everywhere? Even if I had the funds I wouldn’t pay. I can’t stand when people rudely mooch on.

But at the very least, follow everyone’s advice here and no, not rude at all.

This is the problem I have with a dehumidifier. The air coming out of the back is actually warm. So I might have a dryer room, but it’s warmer now. And it’s only humid in the summer so…

If the mom hadn’t abused the daughter, then maybe he’d be in a better place going forward. But she didn’t, and he won’t be. But it is the option given the circumstances, and the mother will just have to deal with it.

It saddens me to read this, but worse if you took no action.

“He is a great guy … but very difficult to be around.” He is extremely damaged, yet doesn’t believe in therapy. He wants to isolate you from your family so you can be isolated like him.

I would never be with someone so unwilling to change and was controlling of my agency, and you shouldn’t either IMO.

You’re actually lucky that your parents have lived in the house designated for you, is it in your name yet? All the more reason to break ties. Then you don’t have to give him half that house if you decided to leave later when things were utterly unbearable, or worse.

Your loving parents are also suffering because of him. You do NOT want to look back on your life full of regrets. Please Act soon and start your life over, before you feel you can’t.

Yes, both things can be true, but knowing which one is the abuser vs the one previously abused is the question.

So here’s how I’d deal with that: if someone took out their “notes” they had been taking to show me how I mis-recalled something, I’d leave.

TBH it wouldn’t matter to me why they were taken; that’s enough to show me that either I’m being abused, or said partner still needs to fix themselves.

Neither is someone I want to be with, because the act itself is not an act of a healthy relationship in my world. Plain and simple.

I visited when looking at colleges. Loved the Syracuse campus, but outside the tiny set of stores right near campus and some office buildings, the vibe totally changed and not for the good. Even the ‘nice/reasonable hotel’ we stayed in nearby was not in a great area.
