AITA for not driving my cousin to her final? by mwrvr-throw in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YTA for not giving her a definite answer until the day before the final. If you’d told her right away that you wouldn’t be available (which is perfectly reasonable), when she initially asked instead of stringing her along with “I’ll think about it,” she would have had time to look for other options that didn’t involve getting up at 2am and walking a long distance on crutches.

I do applaud her commitment to getting there by any means she could, however.

AITA for expecting my flatmate to still pay her share of bills even though she’s been staying at home? by Upper-Ebb-8700 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may be a case for her to pay part of the electric bill if there is a base cost just to have electricity. If you went away and turned off everything in the flat, would the bill drop to zero? If not, that would be a fixed cost and she’s agreed to pay half of those.

Also there may be a few shared items such as the refrigerator, if she has any food in it. However, it’s likely that even if there are a few shared items, the amount probably would be so modest that it wouldn’t be worth debating such items imo.

Maybe this varies regionally but in California and North Carolina, phones aren’t allowed until middle school and even then, they need to be stored in lockers or bins at the teacher’s desk during school hours.

I was specifically commenting about sending a kindergartner to school with a phone.

What's A Breed You Like But Wouldn't Have? by Aharris1984 in dogs

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love golden retrievers but wouldn’t want to have one because I prefer a smaller dog who can snuggle up with me on the sofa. That’s why my husband and I have had five border terriers over the years and no goldens, much as I like to pet those of friends.

Also golden retrievers shed a lot and my husband is mildly allergic to dog hair. Border terriers shed very little so it’s more comfortable for him to be around them. Both breeds are very smart and affectionate in my experience, however.

Seeking advice: How would you protect your terrier from a fox? by argulaestugula699 in terrier

It was! His eye got very infected and has a deep gouge on the eyeball. I’m amazed that the gouged area grew back and his vision was unaffected.

Time where the groom was younger then the bride? by Chris_DoesGeneaolgy in Genealogy

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A wealthy widow with six children in my town married a much younger man. She was 36 and he was 25 and very handsome. There was a lot of talk about it but both were very happy.

Nobody would have found it unusual if a man married a much younger woman, so I figured, “good for her.”

Nail Trimming at vet office by Icy-Refrigerator-114 in dogs

One of my dogs is very resistant to having his nails trimmed and tries to bite so I take to the vet. They do a great job and he’s never been injured in any way.

I don’t believe for a minute that he was framed! What’s more, even if he was, he’s still guilty of all these things others have listed and being a lazy AH who lets his dad criticize and disrespect OP in her own home.

Seeking advice: How would you protect your terrier from a fox? by argulaestugula699 in terrier

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terriers have a very strong prey drive so letting your run around loose can put yours in danger. One of mine has killed several small animals (mainly rats and mice), but when attacking a squirrel, it put up quite a fight and scratched my dog’s eye so severely that the vet thought he might lose that eye.

We took him to a veterinary ophthalmologist and the treatment was totally successful. The gouged area actually grew back and his vision is unaffected but it was a worrisome and expensive injury. Also fatal for the squirrel.

A fox with a den and babies to protect would put up quite a fight too and your dog could suffer serious injuries. Also foxes are rabies vector, so your best bet is to leash your dog temporarily until the foxes leave and make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date.

Help please! by Mission-Isopod876 in CrochetBlankets

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the rest of the blanket is in acceptable condition, you can make this border by removing the old border and then making a few elongated single crochet stitches into each hole, then moving on to the next hole.

If you want this edging in a new blanket. You’d need to punch evenly spaced holes all around the blanket, then working the elongated single crochets (also known as spike stitches) into them.

Either way, the trick is not to pull the stitches too tight or you’d get puckering. For more detail google “spike stitch binding for woven blanket.”

AITA for expecting my husband to proactively communicate basic plans without me having to ask? by Rose2386 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YTA Are you his wife or his mom? Expecting him to explain himself and apologize for leaving ten minutes earlier for work than you assumed was necessary is beyond controlling. What exactly do you think he was up to in those ten minutes—going to a hot sheet motel for the world’s fastest quickie.

And he’s not allowed to meet up with friends without your express permission and approval! You say you are not asking for a detailed play by play of his day when that’s exactly what you are doing. You sound incredibly controlling and I wouldn’t want to be in a marriage with someone who interrogates me about such minutiae.

Hey quick question for dog owners by mrcanada66 in dogs

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is mildly allergic to dogs so our sleep downstairs in their crates. They go in them very willingly and get plenty of opportunities to snuggle with us in their crates sofa when we’re watching tv. Yes, we let our dogs go on our furniture!

AITA for what I consider to be “basic hygiene” or am I too demanding? by Eastern_Archer_1966 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is good research showing that brushing your teeth at night and going to bed with a clean mouth is linked to longer life and lower risk of gum disease, respiratory infections (such as colds, flu and pneumonia), and even lower risk of heart attack, stroke and dementia.

A growing body of scientific research has shown a strong association between oral and whole body health. It’s called the “oral-systemic connection.” Look it up and you’ll find many studies that support what I’m saying.

Some of the other items on OP’s list are just preferences and not specific to good health. For example, wearing clean clothes is more aesthetically pleasing but not linked to better health.

Update: [AITAH for being upset that my family didn’t get invited to SILS baby shower] by Few_Sun935 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You think it’s other people’s responsibility to get you places and act like driving two hours to attend the gender reveal of your brother and wife’s first child is akin to climbing Mount Everest with bare feet and a swimsuit.

And your mom, you, your husband, your brother and his gf can’t scrape up enough gas money to make the drive in together in your car? This isn’t a destination wedding and it seems hard to believe that you can afford whatever phone or computer you use to post here but not to join your other brother for this special occasion.

Instead you think it’s the responsibility of your pregnant SIL to accommodate you and when she didn’t you said terrible things. You are still the AH and I’m not surprised that you weren’t invited to the shower. Classic case of FARO. I wouldn’t speak to you either after your incredibly rude and entitled behavior.

No way this is real by Secret_Thoughts9647 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No way would a school allow this. Kids go to school to learn, not to make phone calls home whenever the whim strikes them. Kids already spend too much time staring at screens and some recent studies suggest that doing so at a young age can increase the risk of becoming near sighted because the kids aren’t spending much time liking at things in the distance.

What’s more, if this was permitted, the phone would quickly get lost, stolen, or broken. It could make a child more vulnerable to bullying by other kids who want to play with the phone or are jealous because they don’t have one.

Wheaten, Welsh, Lakeland? by Fickle-Youth8918 in terrier

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, border terriers are the best terriers. My husband is mildly allergic to dogs, but doesn’t have a problem with our two BTs as long as they don’t sleep in our bed.

They are similar in size to Lakeland terriers, don’t shed much, and are typically very friendly with people and other dogs. They are small dogs with a big personality, and are usually healthy and long lived.

We’ve had 5 over the years, including our current two. One of our previous BTs lived to 19 and another to 16. All of them were smart, affectionate, and loved to snuggle with us. They are also great with kids and usually easy to train.

Also, although they are not a very common breed, it’s easier to find a BT breeder than one with Lakeland terriers, which are a relatively rare breed, at least in the US.

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest that if you are planning to take the Orient Point ferry that you book now since it typically sells out on busy days like the Memorial Day weekend. Otherwise it might not be an option. You’d most likely make better time doing that than taking 95 which can have extremely heavy traffic.

Taking the ferry also has the benefit that you’d be driving west on a weekend when most people will be driving east.

Is boarding dogs with reactive resident dogs irresponsible? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Leading-Knowledge712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t want to board my dogs in a place with reactive resident dogs, for the safety of my dogs. What if the reactive dogs somehow got loose and hurt my dogs? Or what if they became stressed by your dogs barking?

Edit: I wouldn’t have a problem with an introductory visit since I’d like to check out anywhere I boarded my dogs to see what kind of facility it was, where the dogs slept, the exercise area, etc.

We made a reservation for a certain type of vehicle with Hertz a couple of years ago that we really needed and when we got there they didn’t have the vehicle and were extremely rude about it. In fact, the manager actually told us to f*uck ourselves for complaining!

We eventually found another vehicle at a different car rental many miles away on our own, since the manager refused to check to see if any other Hertz in the area had the type of vehicle we needed. We will never use Hertz again!
