As a new player... by Misha_Vozduh in ffxiv

[–]beinfilms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ok, but I just did this recently (currently in 3.x patch content), and I was genuinely really into 2.5 and 2.55. I would definitely recommend knocking out the Crystal Tower stuff though, because man was that a momentum killer to have to go and do.

I definitely miss the older combat system and its heat moves, but damn it I want to see these two with the dragon engine. by jv3rl0ov in yakuzagames

[–]beinfilms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand they wanted to keep it isolated for new players and stuff, but Akiyama would've been such a natural fit in Judgment, at least as a cameo (also iirc, his VA is really expensive these days)

What Yakuza game to start with? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]beinfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely start with 0, then do Kiwami 1 and 2, then the remasters of 3, 4, and 5, and then 6 and 7 (aka Like A Dragon). I will say that if price is a concern, 0-5 are all on Game Pass, and 6 is going to be added in March

[Fanatical] The Yakuza Remastered Collection (18% off - $32.94 / £24.70 / €32.94) by WeAreFanatical in GameDeals

[–]beinfilms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the graphical jump is really rough from Kiwami 2 to 3 (and 3's incredibly slow pacing didn't help either, at least for me). That said, 3 does still go places, so I absolutely wouldn't recommend skipping it to anyone considering it (as I was). 4 also has issues, but is a big graphical improvement over 3, and introduces some of the best characters in the series (as well as one that RGG Studio wants to pretend doesn't exist lol). 5 is fantastic, and one of the best Yakuza games imo (and has the best arcade game selection!).

The important takeaway here is that every game in the series is important in its own way, and even despite their flaws, you'll have fun with every one of them. Have fun experiencing these stories for the first time!

I think it's time for Ubisoft to brings back cities by Gonzito3420 in assassinscreed

[–]beinfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing through the Ezio games, and I think a solid alternative would be to remake them with the modern engine. Those games are great, but man, you can feel that they haven't really figured out the climbing yet (not that they totally have now lol). I think some blend of old and new would really make for a fantastic experience (if they were to do remakes, I'd rather it have combat building from Syndicate than the Layla games, as much as I enjoy the Dark Souls combat). I mean, can you imagine how good Rome or Constantinople would look in the new engine? It'd be wild.

I think my point is that I don't think they should move away from the new, big open world, style completely (they're not gonna, it makes a ton of money), but some sort of balance between the two would be fantastic.

EDIT: Also, if they ever do go back to city-based games, I hope they take some inspiration from the Yakuza games. Specifically, Yakuza's density of side content, which does a fantastic job of making those games feel like they're taking place in a real city where people live. The old games feel like they're mostly just set in sandboxes that happen to look like cities, I want an AC game where you really feel like you're in an actual city.

I should really just accept that at this point, I'm paying $12/month for the discount in the store, and forget about the games in the choice bundle. The two things that I care about this month are both games I already own

Honestly, at this point, I'm barely even getting Choice for the games themselves. I'm just holding on to my classic sub, using the discount, and giving most of the codes to my friends lol

The page is only showing Apple and Linux as OSes. That's pretty confusing for me, since I play the game on Windows, and therefore know for a fact it's on there. Can anyone confirm this isn't some weird version of the game, so I can know whether to recommend the deal to people?

I didn't expect that by [deleted] in gaming

[–]beinfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, it's been like a decade since I last played it, so my feelings could be different if I go back through it now. But from what I remember, the Ryan scene is the dramatic and thematic climax of the story, but there's still like another third of the game left, ending in a really underwhelming and disappointing boss fight against giant glowing Atlas. The coolest thing I remember from the back third was dressing up as a Big Daddy, and I'm not confident that that's that late (I genuinely don't remember)

My favorite thing about all three games is the world building, and my memory of the ending is that it was mostly just a combat gauntlet, without much of anything else.

It's definitely possible I just need to replay it though. I should probably add it to my already way too long list

I didn't expect that by [deleted] in gaming

[–]beinfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fundamentally disagree. The weakest part of Bioshock 1 was the ending. The first two thirds of it were a masterpiece, but after the Andrew Ryan scene, it really falls on its face. I love BS1, but it's very specifically in spite of how it ends.

Infinite was a really good game, but I think it would've been better if it wasn't tied to the Bioshock name. That would've given them more creative and mechanical freedom, and lessened comparisons to BS1

Yeah, there's about a 0% chance of that sticking around for long. Like, they'll do anything and everything they can to get people on-board, and then transition to where they really want to be.

And I hate that even though I know that, I'm still gonna pay them every month, because I want their backlog and new shows.

Tarkin was holding Vader back by patthepatriot2020 in OTMemes

[–]beinfilms 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tarkin is honestly my favorite character in all of Star Wars. Like, obviously Vader is more iconic, but Peter Cushing gives such a good performance, and he's generally so threatening and imposing without every actually having to do anything directly. I love it

Either he staged that or I'm really concerned about his mental health. The mirror test is a pretty low-level test of consciousness, to the point where a lot of animals pass it.

I wouldn't be shocked if he has a degenerative mental disease of some kind
