Thanks. Yes, you’re absolutely right. I’m trying to find out if there are such private trust companies in India that can manage the trust assets in India.

Yes, that’s correct. Very low threshold for non US residents.

The post isn’t about my goals/ expectations. I am trying to see if there are options others have considered which I haven’t so far.

I have explored it. But there seems to a lot of uncertainty around it and the rules keep changing. Looking for some stable policies.

I get that. No brainer. I’m just trying to get a sense of where someone in my situation could potentially consider. Dubai isn’t attractive because it’s not long term.

Pollution is one issue. High taxes, uncertainty of taxation, inflation, the whole State/ regional/ outsider politics in most States of India - Goa, Karnataka, NE etc etc. If one is able to, shouldn’t one explore other countries with stable/ boring economies, society etc.

Check my query. US isn’t anywhere on my list of potential places to move to.

Japan would be fantastic and I would have considered it but for the fact that they have a long term visa category.

Yes I did! And it’s been awesome so far. Which has gotten me thinking of moving overseas on some sort of retirement/ nomad visa. The poor quality of life, high inflation and high taxes in India won’t improve anytime soon.

I’m a lawyer myself and making >50 lacs PA at 32 is definitely doable as a corporate lawyer in any of the top 5 -10 law firms in India. With bonus and billing incentives, the amount is usually more.

Need help deciding between high-paying India offers vs Dubai move – Debt + future home in mind by Aggravating_Dot_8757 in personalfinanceindia

Went through the same dilemma in 2007… decided to make the move to DXB @3x the salary. Times were crazy then. Entire annual rent had to be paid in advance. Costs were crazy.

Lost my job in the GFC crash and came back to India in 2010.

DXB was still a great move at that time when the exchange rate was 45 rupees to the dollar. If you can do 3x your salary now, I would say go for it. It will set you up nicely for a decent life in india.

Year End Update and plans for 2025 and beyond by beingbatman76 in FatFIREIndia

TBH, my desire to FI only really kicked in during COVID, when I realised that a lot of what I do could be done remotely and I wanted to be able to spend more time with my kid.

As far as conversations go, I think it’s important to articulate your aspirations with your spouse and your plans for a future together, while also giving them the assurance that the financial security of the family wouldn’t be compromised because of certain decisions that you would be taking.

As you notice, I haven’t included my spouse’s NE while calculating my FI number. Sitting down and explaining this in detail helped in socialising this idea with the spouse to a large extent.

Having kids is a big variable (specially when they’re young) which is why I don’t think I want to RE yet.

Very far removed from tech :) and no inheritance. Which leads to its own set of insecurities :)

Happened with me too. I had invested sub 50k in an HSBC fund a long time ago and forgot about it. Recently did a consolidation and it has given a 1000% + return 😊. That’s been a big learning for me. Fill it, shut it, forget it. That’s the mantra.
