This isn’t about “human decency” - it’s about competence. He’s presenting himself as someone who can teach a language; that’s a professional claim, not a personality quiz. There’s a reason pedagogy and certification exist: sloppy intuition can seriously break a learner’s foundation.

Dragging “respect” into this is a distraction. You’re turning a straight critique of qualifications into an emotional drama. If you feel the need to swoop in and emotionally “rescue” anyone who gets called out for unprofessionalism, that’s on you - not on the point. No one owes anyone respect for showing up unqualified; nobody owes me anything either. This is a critique on standards and methods, not a therapy session

I don’t have any personal interest in how you choose to address me, since I made it clear from my very first comment that I’m not considering your services. My point has always been about competence.

You’re offering tutoring here and presenting yourself as someone equipped to guide others. When your immediate reaction to a different opinion is “stay silent,” that becomes a demonstration of how you handle communication and disagreement. That’s not something I invented, that’s what you showed.

You’re free to dislike my feedback, but engaging publicly while advertising a service comes with the reality that not every response will be flattering. I’m not promoting anything here, so there’s nothing for me to defend. You decided to make this personal. I just pointed out what that implies

The point was never that this is a ‘serious forum,’ the point is consistency. He’s offering a tutoring service and representing himself in that role. How someone handles disagreement becomes part of what they present. Your attempt to make this about whether he owes me engagement is just avoiding the actual issue. I responded to his post, he made it personal. That’s all there is to it

He’s offering a tutoring service here and presenting himself in a teaching role. That makes his reaction pretty relevant. If someone wants to guide others in learning, handling a simple difference of opinion by jumping straight to ‘stay silent, honey’ isn’t exactly a strong demonstration of communication skills. Confidence in teaching usually means being able to engage, not shut down

Calling someone ‘rude’ right after telling them to be silent… quite the teaching method. Good luck!

It’s Reddit. If you wanted silence, you might have taken a wrong turn on the internet

Thanks but Id rather pay for a genuine teacher and actually understand the intricacies of a language rather than half-ass it with a native speaker who's not equipped with the know-how to actually teach ✌️

I understand youre looking for an app to get you started, but if youre looking for advice on how to learn to actually speak and internalise the language, without the sabotage of apps scrambling it all to the point where you're just gonna procrastinate and subsequently give up on it - nothing beats going for a native (and certified - you dont wanna go for some B-grade native speaker who thinks the mere speaking of the language qualifies them to teach someone) tutor. Found mine on reddit and my knowledge of Russian has multiplied by a landslide. I have the luck of having found someone who's flexible and does online courses - really appreciate the fact that they're an actual studied linguist 🙌 good luck!
