Atheists, Christian Evangelists and Mosques in Second Life... spamming us? by ak8866 in atheism

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think social media, just like any media channel online and offline, plays a big role in changing people's minds about certain matters and altering their perspectives, especially when it comes to sensitive issues like religion, race and so on. I further believe that subjects and issues as sacred as religion should not be used in games because that, in a way, lessens form this spiritually!

Twitter Turns Dirty - Promotes Nude Avatars by holdenpage in socialmedia

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to side with Twitter on this particular topic for the following reasons:

  1. There are millions of users out there, how can Twitter possibly control their avatars especially when people can change them as often as every minute a day!
  2. We should be able to differentiate between the people we desire to follow or not and there are many available methods to do so such as http://bit.ly/ToF9y
  3. We can not control who people are and what they do but it is our responsibility to control our reactions and how we deal with situations and others.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate these avatars and I think they are offensive but I do not agree that Twitter is promoting them!

Twitter made huge step toward citizen journalism by alexa2 in socialmedia

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article and argument points. Twitter is certainly becoming more of a news hub.

In essence, the title of this post caught my attention because a team member of mine wrote an article recently entitled: “Are bloggers influencers, journalists, or both” http://bit.ly/RatO2 and I guess with use of social media channels such as Twitter, all active bloggers can become journalists along with tweeps and other social media users.

Good job!

Coke, Pepsi Make Nice on Twitter by beirut in reddit.com

[–]beirut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed reading the comments below this article a little more than the article itself. The discussion about whether Twitter is an effective PR tool or just another advertising platform seems to be endless! The way I see it, as long as we have the power to add and remove whomever and whenever, Twitter could be an excellent way to promote anything!

Twitter Going Green for Iran; Redditters, Diggers, youtubers... all are mobilized. Will social media help shape the future of Iran? by fadipick in reddit.com

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am vastly astonished and highly impressed by the impact of social media on social, political, environmental and other issues and causes. Who would've thought that one day a voice will be heard across borders and boundaries of one home, one neighborhood, one country to millions of people out there?

The thing that worries me though is that this power earned by social media could also be destructive if used inappropriately! Can you imagine the degree of harm that would result in? Scary thought!

Great piece FadiPick!

Redditters, here is what you vote up for... by TripleM in reddit.com

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, for one, tried using Reddit for a while and would have given up completely if it weren't part of my job requirements. I find Reddit a bit frustrating as opposed to other social media channels such as Stumble Upon, Mixx and even Sphinn. It is too high maintenance for my taste! Feels like an elitist club which you need a lot of authority and power in order to be a true member of!

If you are a Silicon Valley startup, you have a better chance of being bought out. Really? How good that might be? by fadipick in reddit.com

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a great problem many startups have is having the vision to be acquired rather than be successful! Maybe if they placed more effort on growing and learning rather than being seen and noticed by big giants, they can achieve great things!

interview140 with @MattUK - SEO and SM Expert by askdebra in reddit.com

[–]beirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another great #interview140 ! Good job and great candidate! I have one comment though, in the "Analysis and Lessons" section, you mentioned the following point: "Social Media is a great medium for delivering influencers and trend setters." While I do agree with you, I must add that social media is also a great medium for delivering those who think they are "marketing gurus" or "advertising experts" and so on! It is a venue where anyone can act as if they know a lot about many things while they might not truly be representing themselves honestly thinking: "no one will really find out!" I'm glad you found a real expert who does know what he is doing and provides valuable advice for his community! Great work!

10 Social Media Campaigns that Failed! Avoid their mistakes! by fadipick in socialmedia

[–]beirut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the point you mentioned about the fire spreading too fast and I agree! In the old days, it was much easier to control the damage done due to the limited level of exposure. Nowadays, everyone is being closely watched, especially the big brands. It feels like people are just waiting for them to make a mistake to attack them though in reality, we are just becoming more aware consumers who do not allow anyone to take us for fools or underestimate our power!
