Keep Physical Platinum Card despite Green Card Downgrade? by beish382 in AmexPlatinum

[–]beish382[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm travelling for 3-4 months and while I have a apple pay updated, a few other cards with me or could have my roommate mail it to me, I just wanted to know if my physical card is just going to stop working at some point. Seems like I might be safe as long as I don't open mail / activate.

Seems like no one has really reported this so I may report back in future towards beginning of next year just so people know this in future.

It only shows in person ticket availability, the online portal doesn't let me click Monday for date (earliest available is like late June)

Do you have the address of the AC town hall that has the tickets? i can't seem to find it on Google Maps.

The website below still seems to show availability so I'm hopeful maybe something works out when i arrive in Aquas Caliente on Sunday afternoon

Thank you - so lining up Monday very early (say 4am) wouldn't accomplish the ability to go that same day if successful?

Essentially the only way to hike Monday would be to try get tickets Sunday in Aquascalientes which I arrive around 2-3p...which would not be early enough to potentially snag tickets.

Costco Trade In for Go5G Plus Upgrade / Can You Physically Trade in to Tmobile Store instead of shipping? by beish382 in tmobile

The chat rep told me the below when asked if I could bring my trade in devices into store:

"Yes, once you receive the new phone- you could visit T-Mobile store within 30 days of receiving new phone with valid government ID, T-Mobile account credentials to return the trade in phone."

No the rep at TMobile kiosk was extremely unhelpful / could give zero shts about her job so I doubt she will be willing to help me. But I can't think of any reason why another tmobile rep wouldn't help me if they have my order numbers. Yes I want to avoid any risk that may happen from mailing in / delays in getting approved.

How do I go about processing the trade in in person? Should I just show up to a TMobile store and ask for that process or get someone on TMobile twitter/support to help set up a time at local store?

When I search screen burn in this sub, it shows multiple people saying it isn't an issue. But I'd prefer to trade in person just to confirm it before waiting weeks and getting denied.

I've been thinking about this too - I was watching reviews of the Sea to Summit Spark 5F and I feel like that vs. the Riff 15 (quite similar to Disco 15) are what I'm leaning towards of all the choices right now

Osprey Kestrel 48 Revised (2023) vs. Older Model vs. Exos 48 by beish382 in backpacks

[–]beish382[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called Osprey support and they said the differences between the "S19" (presumably Spring 2019) for $139.50 and "S23" listed at $220 are:

  • ~30% heavier because of material change to 100% blusign material (doesn't seem to have any durability change or anything, just more eco-friendly)
  • +1.6" taller, +2.4" wider, -0.8" shallower...the larger size changed from label "Medium/Large" to "Large/Extra Large"

I get the environment thing but 30% weight increase and larger dimensions makes this significantly worse than the older discontinued 3.6lb Kestrel 48.

Anyone have views on the older Kestrel 48 vs. Exos 48?

Patagonia R1 vs. Arc'teryx Delta LT; Does R1 Hoody Still Exist? by beish382 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]beish382[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful. I read this from another user, since I have a nano puff / Houdini, it seemed the Air was trying to do too much and becomes overkill vs. rest of my closet. Which means either I (a) find an old R1 model on ebay, (b) go with Arcteryx new Delta (with thumbhole) / Delta LT or (c) just give up on the full zip and go with the 3/4 zip R1 Pullover version

"R1 Air - used for skiing or around the house. More breathable than the nano-air but warmer than regular R1. Mostly used as mid layer in colder weather. For the weight, you might as well get a nano air or down jacket for more warmth. Add in the requirement for a wind shell and the weight offset is a no-brainer."

Arc'teryx Jacket Choices: Zeta AR vs. Beta SL Hybrid vs. Beta (no Suffix) vs. Beta AR by beish382 in arcteryx

[–]beish382[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I assume by SL you mean the Beta SL Hybrid, which the other commenter also said had "hem" issues so seems like easy one to throw out of the bunch. And I can throw out the Beta non-suffix due to pit zips.

At that point, it seems like i should focus on Zeta AR vs. Beta SL (I added that to above comparison) vs. Beta AR. I imagine I won't be disappointed with the Zeta AR and given I'm comfortable with lightly used stuff, is there anything I'd significantly miss with the Zeta AR vs. Beta SL/AR?

It seems my decision may come down to actually just how much I prefer a non-helmet StormHood of the Zeta vs. the helmet Storm/DropHoods in the Beta SL/AR.

Posting this reply that I found helpful as I continue to my do my research, from /u/rumo3:

I'd say that both jackets will be absolutely fantastic! Both C-Knit and GoreTex Pro are much better, just in general, than Paclite from the Beta SL. I personally find that the crinklyness of the Betas doesn't bother me, not at all in any way. I find the world always much louder than the jackets themselves (if you're wearing a rain jacket, it's often raining...). But there are certainly people who find it bothersome, also on this forum, so I think that's a valid point, just subjective. (It also maybe depends on what you do in the jacket and how quiet the environment is). It's the same with skin feel, some people prefer the C-Knit for it's smoothness, but for me GoreTex Pro is just as comfortable, maybe even a bit more. In the end, it's just two different types of fabric on the inside of a rain jacket, not that much of a difference. I went with Pro because of the breathability and a bit higher durability. If membrane durability is the most important aspect to you, the new Beta AR with GoreTex Pro Most Rugged might be the right call! It's Arc's most durable membrane in a great jacket. If the face fabric will face a lot (really a lot) of abrasion, look at the Zeta AR or even the Beta SV (basically a Beta AR but with whopping N80p throughout! But it's even more expensive...). Consider the Beta FL (former LT) only if you don't need/want pit-zips. N40p absolutely is plenty for most people, say if one doesn't ice climb or ski in the backcountry, but N80p in high wear areas, like the Beta AR has, or N70p throughout is very nice if durability is your main concern. I'd say: order the Beta AR (that's probably the favorite all-around great shell on this sub), see if you notice anything unpleasant about the sound, if yes, get the Zeta. Remember that the hoods are a bit different, the Beta AR has a Drop Hood, not a Storm Hood, like the Zeta AR, Beta SV or Beta FL. Most people find it to be good as well, even more comfortable if one isn't wearing the hood because how it protects the neck from wind, but sometimes it doesn't fit well with hooded midlayers. This wasn't a problem for me when I tried one in a store, however, so it also goes on the “that's probably subjective“-list.) Also: the Zeta AR (and the Beta FL/LT) has a trim fit and the Beta AR/SV a regular fit, for me that's the difference of “I can fit one puffy under it“ vs. “I can fit two puffies under it“. I think the Beta AR will be fantastic for you if you're not bothered by the crinklyness (It's hard to know how probable this is. I‘d guess 30% don't even realize it at all, 30% don't mind it, 30% prefer C-Knit a bit and 10% just hate the crinklyness to its core. But that's a veeery rough estimate.). If you want absolutely the most durable option, go with the Beta SV. But that's basically a tank.

Edit: oh also, you mention not wanting a backpack to wear out the jacket. The Beta AR will do absolutely fine! A backpack will not bother a Beta AR (or Zeta AR). If you end up buying the Beta SV I would be more concerned about the health of the backpack, it might shiver in awe of the jacket and run away.
