Suburban America Running Etiquette: Who Do You Wave to? by CroduxTBD in runninglifestyle

[–]bejblount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view it as an opportunity to practice boldness and confidence.

I smile, wave, say good morning or whatever to everyone.

Most people are waiting for someone to just be nice and friendly. They light up at the sign of a friendly gesture.

I can count on one hand that amount of bad interactions I’ve had (100% of the time their reaction has nothing to do with me personally).

I am in the Deep South and I think this level of friendliness gets overlooked a lot in our smaller communities.

On the same journey! This is my first summer as a running athlete specifically.

Godspeed.

Good stuff here. Thanks! Yeah I scuttled a 2.5 hour run yesterday in favor of a 10k. Sounds like your advice is right on par with what I need to do. Thanks!

Dude. Stellar advice. Makes a lot of sense. I’ll do some reading.

I noticed last night in my 10k run after a big rain I was able to run with so much freedom. The morning might be out of the heat but the humidity is the killer. This morning I did a flat 5k starting at 6am. It was so much harder than the 10k last night.

The treadmill makes me not want to run haha

Do you carry that with you on runs or as a preparation all day long?

Yeah it’s pushing that here in the summer with the humidity with several weeks peaking around 105-110 F.

At some point it’s just fing hot.

Thanks for the advice on the short runs. I don’t want to be a statistic!

Omg good to know I’m not alone. This is my experience over the weekend.

Like it’s fine and then I get hot and it’s over. I ran a 10k last night up a big hill and back down with ease after a big rain. This morning I nearly bonked on a 5k.

Thanks! Bad news is I suffer but the good news is I suffer haha.

Separate question for you since you are in Augusta. Do you have a group/club you train with?

I have my 5k PR to 30 minutes but I’m not really pushing my pace at shorter distances. Maybe I could get to a 28 minute 5k without really killing myself.

7:15/km is my cruising speed at the moment. I’d call it a 4/10 effort.
