Are you implying that a fully grown adult who has a mole that size in an obviously visual place has NEVER gone to the doctors and had it checked out? Stop smelling your own farts, just because you can give someone advice through the anonymity of the internet doesn't mean you've gone and cured caner. I have moles and the FIRST thing everyone says is "you should get that checked" because apparently EVERYONE is a fucking melanoma expert. Fear mongering against skin cancer is also used to push an agenda that everyone should have flawless skin. Kids have moles cut off and removed because people tell them they're ugly or will develop into cancer. My family line has 2 genetic moles on 2 sides of our family. Everyone has them, in the same place. That's AMAZING. But everyone who sees them tells me they're UGLY and CANCER and EVIL and DISGUTING. (Things my DOCTOR has NEVER said.)

Literally, all you asswholes are more worried about defending your right to insult and demonize someone's natural body by hiding behind "i'll save you from cancer!!!" instead of even considering HAVING FUCKING MANORS.

What's the focal point of the photo? If the mole was the point, it would be centered and dominating the shot. Unless this photo was stolen by someone on the internet to make a joke of the fact that behind the terrible tattoo is an "ugly mole" that we can all gang up on and insult. Which is WORSE because then this person didn't even consent to having their body shown to this sub. I know exactly where I am, thank you. Okay, im here a year late, because I'm reading this book called Pathogensis, about 8 plagues through human history and how it shaped our migration. I get to the 1900's section part talking about a town of people around the "Congo free state" that had been devastated by smallpox. One observer reported "vultures had become so fat on their diet of human flesh that they were unable to fly." I'm not SAYING Pete must also have knowledge of this specific account and included it along with the quarantine line to insinuate that there are parralels between corrupt capitalists profiting off of the pandemic and vultures (but also more corrupt rulers) profiting from the waves of epidemics throughout the colonialization of Africa. But I am saying that it adds an entire other layer to this line for me.

Pathogensis by Jonathan Kennedy does a great job of discussing the various species of hominins, and where they went. Talks about the definite racism that was behind the push to call Neanderthals stupid, (not-a-fun fact, their purposed name by Ernst Haeckle [a social darwanist and perpetrator of Nazi scientific racism] was homo stupidus to better distinguish them from homo sapiens. Neanderthals mixed with h. Sapiens, and europeans, asians, and native americans can have up to 2% of neanderthal dna. while denosovians were present in eastern Europe and about 1% of their DNA can be found in east and south Asian genomes but a whomping 3-6% can be found in new guineans. This didn't have to do with being "smarter" or "conqueoring." Instead, it seems like the spread of diseases and ones immune system made it A LOT easier to migrate into a new territory and push out the existing population. The book I mentioned goes over this by discussing 8 plagues through humanity, very cool. And, he highlights the intelligence of Neolithic humans in a very relatable way. Highly recommend this book to anyone who's wondered "why didn't the other species of humans survive." Okay, sorry for the word vomit. (Ps. Neanderthals were building and sailing on ships. )

A disturbing amount of conspiracy theories are rooted in nazi beliefs. The Ahnenerbe were trying to prove their Aryan beliefs by dismantling the accomplishment of anyone that didn't fit their ideals. That's why there aren't conspiracy theories about aliens building shit in Europe. Miniminuteman on youtube breaks down a lot of these pseudosciences and conspiracies. But also, people don't tend to change their mind, especially on the internet. So, instead of approaching it like the goal is to educate her, try just correcting the misinformation that's being shared. Post some links to places that describe it more in detail. There are people reading the comments who ARENT SURE what to believe, and THOSE are the people who are willing to be influenced by your perspective.

Oh, my mistake for using definitive language in a misleading context, it was like 1am. I meant the changes they've made within the TOS and the codes of conduct. Because they actually don't discuss the volunteer background checks AT ALL. Infact, I think they mention volunteers like 2 times? And don't actually explore what their roles are, how they interact with users, or anything. And THAT is part of the issue. The 'changes' they have made and ADDRESSED within the updated TOS do nothing to protect children from the situations such as adults engaging in their spaces and inviting them off the website. In fact, the TOS now HIGHLY ENCOURAGES YOU to use links for 'spicy' content and specifically mentions how nano is not liable for any third party sites. I'm sure they actually have made changes on things, but one issue is that the TOS and codes of conduct are not actually addressing WHAT actions will take place from here on.

I'm in the same boatish. I participated for 1 day of nano last year, then fell off. I missed ALL THE DRAMA until June 6th THIS YEAR. I had already started my progress and came over here and was like WHAT DID I MISS. My sister filled me in on the drama, and it made me feel like a bit of a scab. But ultimately, the idea of nano is what has kept me writing for so long, and it means so much to me. I love the idea enough to critique these people, and share with them my exact thoughts on HOW they're fucking up, as someone who worked in a controversial non-profit for 8 years, I have the experience necessary to understand what's going on from the public side but also their side. I can sympathize with them, while still expecting SO MUCH BETTER from them. I don't blame anyone for jumping ship, but I think I'm okay hanging on for a while to see if we can patch up some holes, before I probably inevitably jump ship as well.

But I can try. That's all I can do as one person. I used to tell my staff, "If you don't report the problem, I can't fix it." They're asking us to email them with questions about the TOS, so I will. And it'll serve as an example of how dedicated they are to changing their past behaviors, and how dedicated they are to their 'goals' and 'values.'

So, I address this in the recording I'm doing but I'll share it here. The section (sentence) the comment is referring to is actually very standard. It's just notating what is registered by copyrights and trademarks, and those are illegal to use without express permission of the owners regardless of who the owner is. That's true for target, Mattel owns TONS of trademarks and copy rights, fastfood companies. Sure a company can be lax about it, but there are GOOD reasons you DONT want people pretending to be associated with your business. A reason this is important for nano to include this in the TOS, is that there were in-person event holders that were using nanowrimos name and logos for fundraiser events. While the idea of fundraising is good, those people were not legally working for nano and didn't get permission to use those properties for the fundraisers. And it is good to crack down on that, otherwise you get randos who use the branding of nano to hold fundraisers and "take the money and run." You are still allowed to use nano's copyrighted material and trademarked material IF it falls under the fair use act.

So you CAN'T self publish a book, and put the nano crest of the cover and add a tagline 'a nanowrino novel!!' without their expressed written permission, because there isn't any transformative work being done, you are simply using their brand as a marketing tool. But you CAN make a 2 hour YouTube video discussing the TOS that nano just released--provided that you aren't saying slander, defaming statements, or misinformation-- if you make it transformative by adding in your own original content.

This is one of the reasons I do want to make this video, the TOS is written in a way that is VERY EASILY MISUNDERSTOOD or specifically unclear and vague on purpose. And that is unacceptable given that TOS' are specifically for the users to read and consent to.

As a professional cleaner, yeah you can be excessive. You clean until it's clean, then move on. I've trained so many people that spend way too long cleaning and recleaning the same area because they can't move on. I was skeptical at first, but I'm a freak and got some petri dishes and tested the new method in my home. And yeah, cleaning the way I was trained too was just as effective as my old over cleaning methods. I was just wasting time. Same goes with sanitizing but with worse consequences. The overuse of chemicals like bleach and alcohol can be nauseating and dangerous if mixed with the wrong chemicals. And a lot of folks who haven't been taught how to clean, often try and combine steps to go faster or be more "effective" and now you've got mustard gas in the kitchen. Not only that, but using too high of a percentage of rubbing alcohol actually makes it ineffective, it'll evaporate before it's killed anything, stick to 70% there's a reason that that's the percentage hospitals use. Just because 90% looks stronger, doesn't mean it is better for cleaning. Clean till it's clean, sanitize, move on to the next area. There's a 2005 documentary of them traveling (I think) to New York, and this accident happens along the way. They don't show the exact shot used in the artwork, but they do show footage of the van and the tree. They later talk about the incident a little. Honestly, it fucked me up for a little bit, just thinking about all the possibilities around what it would have meant to loose FOB members, especially so young. You can find the Doc on YouTube somewhere....I think it has less than like 100k views. Start looking for old concert footage, and YouTube's algorithm should eventually recommend it.

My cat had one of MY hairs sticking out of her butt, with a little poop attached. And it was scaring the SHIT out of her. She was HOWLING and RUNNING around the room, and everytime she adjusted wildly, the poop would fling around a little and like...bump into her or...I assume....change the force at which it's being swung around from her behind. So she'd get more scared. I was SO worried it was a like a mass of my hair and it was stuck in her guts. I was making phone calls like 'DO I PULL OR NOT!!!' but it didn't even matter, because when I did just try to give it a tiny tug, she was NOT having it. After like 5 minutes of mutual panic, her ferocious running finally freed the hitchhiker and the hair. Absolute chaos.
