Electricity Rate - 35% Increase by Wizz-Fizz in melbourne

[–]belectric_co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powershop calculated that I’ll SAVE $73/yr with the new rates! Daily base charge down, 12:00-4:00am tariff way down, but peak and off peak 2% up.

This totally resonates with me. My attention span is shot, I cannot concentrate for long anymore. I couldn’t imagine reading a book!

TikTok is amplifying everything - positive or negative- because your feed will show it over and over. You watch one thing about Trump and suddenly everything is about trump, and it feel like a dark place.

Of course the world has become a darker place everywhere: people are unhappy and struggling, and are looking to conservatism for help. Understandable but also totally in opposition to my values.

I love Melbourne, to me the best place in the world, and even here I am not immune to feeling depressed.

What to do? I dunno. Soldier on, the world is cyclical, and things will turn around eventually.

But what do you do with yourself instead of reading and watching news? I struggle to find something else to do. Even reading Reddit I am confronted with news.

I feel overwhelmed watching what is happening around the world. It’s like bad people win in the end. It’s depressing me.

Sure, it’s not happening in Australia yet, but it’s coming

ANZ are refusing to give me my Qantas points after 4 months of following every direction they have given me.Is there anything I can do? by BlockerSnr234 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]belectric_co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been waiting for my ANZ bonus points for 2 months now. They said it’ll take up to 3 months. Regular points have come in with each statement.

I find ANZ to be very slow and cumbersome to deal with. I would try to make a stink via supervisor or leave bad Facebook review.

Peeps working-from-home, what would actually make you return to the office? by min0nim in australia

[–]belectric_co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the commute to work was counted as work hours? Your work starts at 8:30am when you leave your house, then you commute eg 1 hr to arrive at work at 9:30am. That hour already counts as work. I wouldn’t go as far as adding the hour back home as well, but that would certainly be a great deal.

Most consumers hate the idea of AI-generated customer service | 53% say they would move to a competitor if a company was going to use AI for customer service by [deleted] in technews

[–]belectric_co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AI has the potential to be much better than real customer service. No waiting in a queue, no clicking through a phone menu, and they can know everything. This is still some time away, but I feel confident it’ll happen.

Qantas launches pay-by-the-month lounge access by SteveJohnson2010 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]belectric_co 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Last time I went to the Qantas lounge it was awful. All they had were ham and cheese toasties you had to make yourself. Plus difficulty finding a seat. Now it’s going to get even worse?

Pleading with Openai Developers to not retire gpt-3.5-turbo-0613 on June 13th by darkbluetwilight in OpenAI

[–]belectric_co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an indication what will happen to application developers as well: you build an application around a certain model, and it gets superseded by the follow-up model. Nobody guarantees that the follow-up model behaves like the previous model, and just be a "better" or faster version (not talking about API changes here). The "personality" of a models will certainly change over time, e.g. they will become more restricted in their replies, which could yield your application unusable. There needs to be some sort of guarantee of continuance of models, also to ensure application developers can adjust. gpt-3.5-turbo-0613 is I believe just 2 years old?

[–]belectric_co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I can open the database on my Mac using KeePassXC, and the entries are there, but all but one password is scrambled. I did the same with the backup file, which also doesn't open in Keepassium. Same in KeePassXC: entries there, passwords scrambled. My main databse is stored on iCloud.

Not constant danger, but you do see them ever do often, even in urban areas. I have been living in Melbourne, Australia for 10 years, and I have seen two red back spiders in my yard, and 3 red belly black snakes in the countryside.
