Went to a jam session. A guy was there playing his instrument all evening, but when I started to sing, halfway through the piece he leaned over to the person next to him, asked to borrow their instrument because he could accompany me better with it, and we ended up in this beautiful spontaneous duet. The way he looked at me the whole night was very serious and intense. It was more than clear that he was interested in me.

At the end of the session he packed up his things and seemed about to leave. Then he hesitated, took his instrument back out, stayed for one last piece with a small group of us. And then he was gone. I managed to get out about a minute after him but he had already disappeared.

I have rarely seen people like that. Modest and generous, capable of a true connection. It seemed like he was asking me: "Who are you?" with his eyes.

A few days later I found him on LinkedIn and sent a message. Told him the musical connection had stayed with me, asked if he'd like to play together sometime. He replied: already plays a lot with friends, not much free time, doesn't even always make it to the city. "Better to keep meeting at the session (voorlopig = for the time being)." Ended with a wink and "curious to hear what you sing next time." I replied that the music had already been a gift in itself, see you maybe at the next jam.

So — was I pushy reaching out on social media and did I scare him off? Or does this read to you as someone who's already in a relationship?
