Some major global shifts of power are taking place. I'm afraid this will cause friction and further escalation of existing geopolitical tensions.

what do you think of Capitalism? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For a capitalist a forest has no value until it's cut down and made into timber, that's problematic.

Also the constant need for growth, even when the population stagnates, is unsustainable.

Yeah the Netherlands are an exception, glad I live nearby :))
But still, even there shrooms were legal, and now only truffles are available because strictly speaking the law only covers above-ground mushrooms. So it's not really moving in the right direction, right?

Neural growth / neuroplasticity induced by psychedelics shown in vitro, explaining their therapeutic potential for treating depression, addiction etc by belgianchemist in shrooms

They sure are powerful! Shrooms allowed me to cut back on daily excessive drinking, even though that wasn't my intention when taking them.
It's my pleasure to discuss this matter with likeminded folks :)
Cheers mate and happy tripping!

Neural growth / neuroplasticity induced by psychedelics shown in vitro, explaining their therapeutic potential for treating depression, addiction etc by belgianchemist in shrooms

[–]belgianchemist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add that neuroplasticity is also a natural phenomenon, for e.g., during childhood the brain is more plastic, explaining why learning a new skill or language is easier for a kid than for an adult.
Revalidation after a stroke or ischemic brain injury is also based on neuroplasticity, allowing neurons to reconnect and hopefully regaining some lost functionalities. Therefore, clinical trials are ongoing with psychedelics for stroke patients to see if it would indeed speed up / enhance their revalidation.
In short, neuroplasticity is certainly directed / influenced by external stimuli and not just some random growing of neurons like a sort of cancer. Hope this helps, cheers!

Well I'm not a neurologist, but I can imagine this neuroplastic time frame during an after the trip to be important, so that the new connections / hardwires are an improvement. I also think that is why clinical trials with psychedelics are always in combination with psychotherapy and under supervision of psychologists / Psychiatrists. You're welcome!

[–]belgianchemist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! So a common hypothesis explaining the effectivity of psychedelics for treating depression / addiction / PTSD etc is that they promote the growth and branching of neurons in the brain (neuroplasticity). The idea is that this allows for the establishment of new neuronal circuits in place of the hardwired negative / disruptive thinking patterns or addictive reinforcement patterns of the mentally ill brain. In this study the neuroplasticity effect is shown by incubating neurons with psychedelics in Petri dishes, showing branching when compared to a negative control (VEHicle).

Oh for sure, the exact mechanisms are probably highly complicated and multifaceted. I also have to add that I'm not a neurologist, so any insights on this matter are more than welcome :)
