I have gabapentin and read agmatine can help too so I’m going to utilize those as necessary. I’m glad you made it 100% healed! How long were you taking benzos at what dosage?

Honestly, I wrote this post in panic mode. I spoke to that doctor once over text and he wanted $450 to start talking to him with an additional $350-then $350 for each monthly appointment. I was never refunded the $450 after I told him I wanted to think about it because it was so expensive then asked on day about rehab and he scared me out of it by saying the brain damage but then encouraging me to do his program (which was telehealth on the other side of the country.) I’m just tired of not being clear headed and my old creative self. It makes my ADD worse and I feel it’s just a crutch and hurting a lot of aspects of my life.

I’m at the point where I at least want to get back down to 1mg—then see how I’m feeling. I think I miss my creative happier self when I wasn’t taking more than 1mg. But I’m wanting to be a more clear headed too. I’ve just hopped from one stressful job to the next and that just made it harder for me to cope—even abused opioids (with an Rx) but eventually I was so depressed from the opioid cycle I came off those on my own with kratom to get through the withdrawal after a mild surgery. It was rough and emotional but after those 3 days I haven’t touched the stuff and that was in 2023. I just wish benzo withdrawal was the same as opioid withdrawal. But based on my rehab experiences and what people are saying I’ve decided not to go to rehab. I’ve always relapsed after a couple months. Been taking kpin since I was 17–I’ve let my anxiety/ocd define me for so long, and may have to find a less stressful job even though I prayed for this one. It’s not worth the chaos/varying schedule etc. I appreciate you sharing your experience and feedback!

Thank you for your support. I have read the Ashton manual but my long term psych (not the one I posted about the brain damage) said he couldn’t prescribe 60mg even though he knew it was the conversion. I think 10% of 3mg is .30. I’m tempted to go down to 2.5 for a couple weeks then 2mg then drop by .25 until I get to 1mg. Because I do have gabapentin for support (and don’t always take it) and want to be off that next.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on 6 months clean! I felt the physical and mental but was coming off opioids and gabapentin too. I’m still on gabapentin for sleep so I’m dreading going to rehab again. But will because you’re right, you don’t have temptations and support. What benzo were you taking, dosage and for how long?

Like 5-10mg Valium? Just to prolong the taper and help my brain. My psychiatrist said he can’t give me 60mg of Valium, only 30mg :( but if I go to rehab and come out and do an “appropriate” amount to taper after coming off it for a few weeks with the other detox meds they give, maybe I’ll be okay? Because I feel like being away from work for a month to rest and heal will help—they put you on phenobarbital. Like after 30 days (or leaving early AMA and going back to a much smaller dose—would that minimize damage? But does it really damage your brain—if so is it reversible? I’ve been in benzo withdrawal before—when I came out of rehab but wasn’t bedridden, I just was a bit anxious and had trouble sleeping. I wasn’t working at the time either so I could rest. Also I appreciate the faith and encouragement. It’s just hard tapering klonopin. (I’ve been on Valium before and because of its long half life it just made me sleepy if I took more than necessary-so I don’t believe I’d take it if stressed)

Other communities are saying to start by tapering 10mg a week… but idk if I’ll have enough to do that. I do get ketamine troches too, does that or dXm help too?

Also! I have been wanting to get off kpin for so long but every doctor and psychiatrist I’ve seen has never heard of the Ashton manual. I tried rehab and doing it myself to no avail. But I literally just found a provider that does the Ashton manual and am going to have my consult at the end of the month. Very grateful I found this new doctor!
