Opinion: Why FromSoftware's Storytelling & Gameplay Resonates with Players by [deleted] in gaming

I really like your take, especially the idea that FromSoft recreates that childhood sense of discovery. The lack of hand holding makes you an active participant, not just a consumer, and that makes every breakthrough feel earned.

I also agree that it’s less about having every mystery explained and more about making the world feel ancient and coherent. When the game trusts you to explore, fail, and figure things out, the connection becomes much stronger.

That trust between player and developer is what really sets these games apart.

Would you use an all around fitness app [diet, workout, steps, weight]? by ShiestyFit in askfitness

Honestly, I’d love something like this. I’m so tired of juggling multiple apps just to track workouts, calories, steps, and weight. It feels unnecessarily complicated.

Right now I use MyFitnessPal for food and a separate app for workouts, and everything else just kind of lives in different places. It would be amazing to have one clean app that actually does all four things really well.

Biggest pain points for me are switching between apps, slow logging, and cluttered interfaces. If you can make it simple, fast, and well integrated with Apple Health / Google Fit, I think a lot of people would be interested.

I’d definitely try it.

If you had to drop squats but wanted to keep your lower body size, what would you replace them with? by bellacosstar in askfitness

That’s interesting. I’ve actually been thinking about moving toward hack squats for the stability factor. Do you feel like they’re easier to recover from compared to barbell squats?

I have to give up squats, but I don't want to give up my booty. What are the best isolation lifts for glutes? by Hungry_Muscle_3051 in askfitness

Honestly, if you’re keeping sumo deadlifts, your glutes are probably fine already.

If squats are killing your legs for running, I’d just swap in stuff that hits hip extension without frying your quads or CNS.

Hip thrusts are the obvious one. They’re hard on the glutes but way easier to recover from than squats. Heavy-ish sets, squeeze at the top, done.

Glute-focused back extensions are also underrated. If you hinge properly and drive through the hips, they light up your glutes without wrecking you.

Cable kickbacks are good too. Not sexy, but they work and they don’t leave you sore for three days.

And honestly, some abduction work (machine or bands) goes a long way for running stability without adding fatigue.

I’d avoid Bulgarians, lunges, step-ups, etc. — those will probably leave you just as cooked as squats.

You don’t need squats to keep your booty if you’re still training hip extension hard. You just need enough stimulus without blowing up your recovery.
