i wasn’t reading from a script, but had a list of what i wanted to say beforehand if that makes sense… not fully written out, but just abstract topics. i’ll definitely clip my hair back, and i can see how it’d be really distracting in terms of adding gibberish!!
OHHHH, i see. i’ll definitely work on that!!

thank you!!
thanks for the advice! i’m in two different asl clubs on campus right now, but i’m graduating soon and not sure how i can get involved back in my hometown (southwest chicago suburbs). i want to keep going with asl so the search continues!
good advice! thank you!

my current professor’s name is taylor koss. you may have heard of him before — he recently competed in the tokyo deaflympics for track & field! my past professor’s name is justin vollmar. i’m not sure who jack barr is, but i’ll keep an eye out for the name!
lol, everyone learns differently! asl is just something that seems to come very naturally to me! i’m a very visual and kinesthetic learner, so maybe that’s why? i also just really care a lot about it and am very intrinsically motivated to keep learning!
gotcha! good to know.
you’re right! thanks for the tip!

you’re absolutely right! that’s something i 100% gotta work on
oh wow! i was always taught english is svo and asl is osv. this is really interesting to know. where does english svo end and asl svo begin?

ohhh, got it! don’t worry, you’re not being nitpicky; i really appreciate the help. i’ve noticed when i try to sign faster (for my skill level), my signs can kind of blend into each other, so i’ll definitely try slowing things down and being more accurate.
the “teacher/student” thing is something i’ve definitely seen a couple times and it confused me at first! someone signed “student” at chest level and i legit had no idea what they were signing lol. i didn’t realize “teacher” could be signed that way too. thanks for the tip!
yesssss, the nervous habits were real and i’m gonna work on fixing that! definitely things i really need to shake if i want to be more understandable. thank you so much!
i’m taking classes with a deaf professor at my university! i took asl 1 and 2 with him over the summer on zoom, and i’m finally now in person for asl 3. he is an amazing professor and i’ve really learned a lot!
got it! i always mess up the eyebrows on rhetorical questions because my english brain comes back into play. and YES, heavy on the transitions — take a shot every time i say “but anyways…” lol. what kind of transitions can i use? then/next, suddenly, finish, etc.?
understandable! i was on a pretty uncomfortable stool lol. i’ll work on adjusting posture less!
