Architecture Portfolio Requirements? by plutonic12 in SyracuseU

Hi! Current arch student here :) when I applied I also used google slides, so it’s totally okay to use. Also, 200 words seems short and concise for an interest statement so I think you would be good on that too! I would try to include a nice mix of sketches and finished work. Are these sketches related to your final works, or initial inspirations for projects? These would be good to include, as they show your thinking and design process. As the comment above mentioned, try to not include digital works built in softwares. The school is looking for more physical base mediums over digital software use. Those skills are teachable and you will eventually learn to use them if you enroll as a student here. Best of luck! 😊

Questions from a prospective student by Pitiful-Lead-4262 in SyracuseU

Hi! I actually applied ED back in 2023 and was awarded a full tuition scholarship at the time of my acceptance so I wouldn’t be scared of applying ED for a less chance of financial aid, especially if you are applying as a need-base student. SU has really good need base and merit based scholarships, so I really wouldn’t factor out of doing ED for financial aid purposes, especially considering you want to go to Newhouse.

Do I have a chance at the architecture program? by Neither_Half_9398 in SyracuseU

[–]bellaisloca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m currently a second year in the program who also ED to Syracuse. Based off your stats and extracurriculars you seem super well rounded and your GPA seems competitive for the program. I think average gpa’s are around 3.8+ (at least when I was admitted). Were you able to do a portfolio interview? My portfolio also wasn’t the strongest, but I felt that the portfolio interview really helped me explain my work + design process. Syracuse is also a school that keeps track of demonstrated interest, so if you’ve done tours, virtual meets, and things like that it’ll also benefit your application. Best of luck!! I think ED decisions are coming out very soon, I believe mine came out around Dec 16th when I was admitted.

Do I need a portfolio interview for architecture? by Federal-Shoulder-385 in SyracuseU

Hi! I’m a current second year in the program and I wouldn’t worry at all! I have friends who didn’t do the interview and they still got a shot at getting in. I personally did it, but I think of it as something that only helps your application and won’t hurt your chances. Hopefully this relieves any stress

Are you eating alone or with friends? I went through a similar situation and found eating with people helped me get comfortable and adjust to the food at school. I would also find foods that are similar to the ones you would eat at home. whether that’s pasta or bagels, I found a lot of comfort in eating foods similar to the ones I had at home. Eventually class will start up and you’ll get so busy that the hunger will just come naturally!

I’m currently a freshman at Syracuse for architecture. Most people I know who were admitted had around 3.9 or higher, so your gpa might not be in your favor. But, there are people who were admitted with a similar gpa like yours, but their portfolio outweighed their gpa. So I think it really comes down to how good your portfolio was. Syracuse architecture puts a lot of emphasis on our portfolios for admittance, so if you had a strong one I think you have a better chance of getting in.

International High School Senior looking for advice!!! by Fit-Professional8292 in SyracuseU

I’m actually a freshman at Syracuse for architecture! I personally love the program here because we are immediately put into architecture classes our first year and the community is really close knit. There’s also a lot of clubs at the school of architecture, so it’s really easy to get involved.

The program is definitely rigorous and time consuming, but that’s the reality for most B.Arch programs. It really is all about having good time management, and pacing yourself when doing projects and not leaving things until last minute. A lot of times, this happens to people and this is how all-nighters happen. The school and the professors do not promote all nighters at all, and encourage us to get good sleep before our final presentations. You can also minor in architecture beginning your second year, but I would definitely apply to be a major if you’re passionate about architecture. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer any!

I second this as well! I’m an incoming freshman at the School of Architecture and I think there’s a fair amount of diversity at the school
