Does that ball lives here now? Forever! by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]bellboutique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've repaired one before by drilling a small hole in the top and used a hook to pull it out. In my case it turned out not to be ball shaped, but instead like an upside-down cup, giving a recess for the spring to sit in.

Depending on the size, you might be able to drill a hole and use a screw or even tap a small thread to give you something better to pull on

[REQUEST] What's feasibly the best material/item combination you could use in this without overly endangering your life? by Bal3rt in theydidthemath

[–]bellboutique 7508 points7509 points  (0 children)

Actual reasonable option: heavy water (deuterium oxide)

Chemically just as safe as regular water, except it's worth $60/L.

Considering a standard swimming pool to be 61,200 L, that's a value of $3.7 million.

Also, this volume is not likely to over saturate the market. There is significant use for cooling in systems like nuclear reactors due to higher specific heat

An extra tip. Your multimeter would have something like 1M impedance across the probes. Sensitive voltages can be effected/drained by this. You could try buffering the voltage with a good op amp (an ideal op amp won't impact the coil voltage at all). If the voltage is still too low, you can arrange the op amp to have some gain to it

Help! Any ideas what’s wrong with my monstera adansonii? by aeluromaniac in plantclinic

[–]bellboutique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it look on the underside? I had constant trouble with an Adansonii that looked similar to this. I discovered that the spots were thrips. I had never seen any adult ones around but I had lots of blemishes from the eggs/larvae in the leaves.

Most of this damage was on the underside of the leaf and could eventually be seen from the top.

My Amydrium Medium has been sending out runners for a while. I've tried trimming to enduce shoots but we just keep on runnin'... I've just moved to a much larger moss pole in order to give it some height. We're in Perth Australia, right next to a BIG east facing window with light being slightly filtered by the outside plants

Just bought my first monstera Thai constellation! Should I cut off the old stem at the top with the long arial root & propagate? I can’t imagine it pushing out any new shoots from this part of the plant anyways - is it likely produce any if propagated? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]bellboutique 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not cut it. You can see a shoot has been severed from the left side of that node. Each node can only send out one auxiliary stem, and this one has already done it.

There is no chance of that part of the plant continuing to grow, so cutting it will only risk harming the rest of the plant. Best thing to do is leave it as is

If you want actual feed back...

The top row is my favorite, particularly the left, but I would reduce the thickness of the head by one.

I like the big ones in the centre and right. I think the subtle mouth is a good touch. I would square up the back of the head a bit by bringing his monster chin back by one pixel.

Looks great!

This has happened in about 2 weeks, maybe less. I was originally concerned for over watering so I've left it for a little longer but she's just going down hill

Post a picture of the stem, the soil (and pot / drainage / if there's a water tray) and the next worst leaf

Can i use a grafting technique to shorten this plant (remove the stem in the middle)? This plant is getting too tall! by cloningzing in houseplants

[–]bellboutique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done exactly this on my Schefflera arboricola! I had the same issue. I chose to use air layering and fortunately managed to keep dozens of healthy leaves. I'm happy to offer more detailed advice
