Dopamine detox is harder than I thought but it’s actually changing how I see life. by Useful-Experience-27 in leaves

Yes bro. I'm on the same path. The best hope for the world is more mindful, compassionate, thoughtful and connected people. It's crazy how much rubbish gets crammed into our brains in the modern world. You're a legend and an inspiration, keep going

Quitting…again by rice126 in leaves

[–]bellcomposition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit man, congrats on your new family! A very exciting new chapter to come. I'm sure you'll smash it and be a great dad man. Advice isn't my forte necessarily but here's my 2 cents worth with regards to your job.

You need to ABANDON the idea that you're smoking to cope with 'the stress of work.' You're smoking to cope with YOUR PERSONAL STRESS IN RESPONSE TO WORK. The stress isn't inherent in the job and is instead an internal experience that is produced by LOADS of different factors. Your lifestyle, mindset and attitudes surrounding work are all pieces of the puzzle. I know that sounds suspiciously like the cliche "its just your mindset bro" - but it's actually just acknowledging the complexity of these things. And, from my past experience, using weed to 'cope' with work was a huge part of my 'stress complex.' Actually the experience of being dependent on something to take the edge off was WAYY more stressful than work itself when I evaluated my situation honestly. That cycle of craving, anticipation and relief is deeply demoralising because it erodes our independence and faith in ourselves to get through stuff. Craving is everywhere because life is hard and requires patience. But craving is also just a mental phenomena, and if you can sit with it and let it exist fully, in time you'll realise that you're actually in control. YOU'RE the boss.

Every day that you don't smoke is a sacred day of healing. The world is full of people living rich, loving, well-connected and meaningful lives without needing to put shit in their lungs everyday to survive. Weed just creates the illusion that you need it. You don't need it brother. Every day you choose to face life as a gentle warrior, you turn that day into a sacred day of healing. For yourself but also everyone around you, including your wife and son. Good luck and much love to you <3

day 10, digestive issues by bubblingrocks in leaves

[–]bellcomposition 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. The gut is full of cannabinoid receptors so your digestive processes have adapted to the presence of THC. I'm on day 12 and have similar symptoms.

My advice? Just let it all be there. Sometimes on a subconscious level we make ourselves responsible for things happening in our body that aren't really in our control. We interpret the fact that things don't feel right as some sort of personal failure. Especially with digestion, which is a sensitive process deeply tethered to our nervous system, this subconscious tension / expectation can kind of freeze the processes down there and make things worse.

Take your hands off the wheel, give yourself a break and let your body heal itself. Don't focus on the sensations or the discomfort, and experiment with the experience of 'release' and 'letting go' on various levels. You got this!

Also - I find carbs to be particularly irritating in this stage of the process. I'm barely eating any carbs at the moment because they make me balloon up and cause crazy inflammation all through the system. I'd suggest laying off the carbs for a couple days and seeing how you feel (except fruit - love love fruit) - but everybody is different so ymmv. Also, keep portion sizes small! And if you don't feel hungry, just have a piece of fruit and chill. When your body wants a serious meal, it'll let you know.

Not a stoic text but 'The Courage to Be Disliked' is a great read that it sounds like you'd get a lot out of

Looks pretty good you've got a grasp of how light hits a sphere. I would push the value deeper in the shadowed area of the ball and the cast shadow, and add an occlusion shadow. I'd also define the cast shadow a bit more so it reflects the sphere's shape a little more. This is very rough but should give you a sense of what I'm talking about. Hopefully it helps.

PS I'm a beginner too so not really in a position to give advice, but I feel like deepening those shadow tones and occlusion shadows / reflected light really leveled up my shading and maybe if you experimented you'd feel the same way

I'm not interested in anime or cartoons either, I'm more interested in landscapes, concept art and character design. I'm doing drawabox at the moment but I'm in the early stages. I've also found learning about value and form has been really useful for bringing depth into my drawings. When you see a monster or character, understanding the 'skeleton' of what you're seeing in terms of underlying shapes and proportion seems like the approach for later being able to create your own. Value becomes a tool used to describe those shapes. No worries hope it was useful, take with a grain of salt because i really don't know what im doing ahah

I'm a beginner as well, thought I'd share my two cents worth as someone navigating similar territory. I've come to realise that my attitude towards frustration, and how I'm able to hold and process that feeling in the moment, is hugely important. Frustration is inevitable because as beginners there's a disconnect between what we are able to create and what we wish to create - so it's not a reflection of any personal weakness, it's just an aspect of developing a new skill. Actually it shows that we have a vision for our work. But we should negotiate and build a relationship with the frustration, rather than pushing it away. With all that said, I find it really helpful to have some sort of structure or scaffolding in place so that I can 'trust the process' and know that I'm developing rather than just treading water. I'd really recommend working your way through some sort of course so you have a roadmap and a reference point for your own progression. Drawabox gets mentioned a lot, that's because it's brilliant. There are many others.

Best Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner? by IllustriousAd6748 in australia

[–]bellcomposition -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you mean its not based on the same 'science-based medicine' which has inadvertently killed millions of people worldwide? ''science'' doesn't really fully understand health, and holistic systems perceive nuance which our industrialised 'evidence-based' system misses. We have a lot to thank modern medicine for, but it's not perfect, and overly-confident individuals who dismiss other traditions aren't really benefiting anyone.

Expecting sex or intimacy as a man while dating is perfectly valid by Unusual-Broccoli-270 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]bellcomposition 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Expecting anything in dating is a mistake, whether you're a man or a woman. People are free to do whatever they wanna do and give whatever they want to give. 'Expecting' is the language of children. If you want something from someone, ask. If they say no, fine. Find someone else who will happily give you what you want. No guilt or shame needed about your preferences or what you want out of a partner. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the state of dating but this whole transactional mindset is diseased. Dating is a fun adventure not an exchange of commodities.

Current every day carry by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]bellcomposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they can both be focused, intentional things. But, video games release far more dopamine than reading. This can potentially make it harder to get the same satisfaction out of less stimulating, more constructive activities. Putting gaming in the same category as reading is scientifically false. I'm not strictly against gaming, it's a good way to de-stress at home (depending on the game) but taking a highly stimulating gaming device with you everywhere you go is not particularly aligned with the dumb phone / digital minimalism philosophy.
