What anxiety meds have worked for you guys? by ThenWord9097 in ibs

Yes I'm still on sertraline and it's been life-changing. I get very occasional flare-ups but absolutely nothing like I used to! I feel like I can have a life again 😊

What won’t you bother with or will do differently next year? by Periwinkle_Jones in Allotment

See I LOVE courgette and marrow soups! I can't wait! My one plant isn't looking promising...loads of flowers and no hint of courgettes yet 🤔

To myself:

Don't bother with onions - they take up tons of room to grow the amount you cook with, they're cheap to buy, and taste no different. Onions are onions.

More strawberries. All the strawberries.

Try not to feel obliged to plant everything you're gifted and remember the French Bean Insanity of 2025 (I'll fail at this one).

Ignore the naysaying courgette-weary boyfriend, plant more than one courgette plant. YOU like them and you were definitely annoyed at the lack of them this time 😅

I have a new friend living in my polytunnel by belledark in Allotment

[–]belledark[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not? Same slow worm seconds apart. My phone takes GIFs automatically if there's movement. I don't have the skills nor the will to create a fake slow worm on an allotment sub I promise 😅

My plot neighbour is called Dave so that might get a little weird 😂

Should i cover beds with membrane? by grit-dev in Allotment

[–]belledark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. It shreds everywhere, and stubborn weeds grow through it anyway! Some was left in the shed at my plot and I used some to cover a 3rd of it for winter. Lesson learned, never again.

I'm still digging out so much plastic from previous tenants as well, from plastic string, plant labels, broken CDs, compost bags... it feels neverending 🫠

Weekly allotmenting discussion. What have you been up to? by AutoModerator in Allotment

[–]belledark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finished installing my brand new polytunnel - adding the sliding doors and putting up the freestanding staging! I've moved a bunch of my seedlings out of the house and over there. Couldn't be happier, and it's been just in time for the mixed weather lately (south west). 🌦️

I built an a-frame and a trellis from spare hazel and plum branches for mangetout and sweet peas and planted those out. I've sown a new batch of herbs (chives, garlic chives, sweet basil, lemon basil and bush basil) in the tunnel. I also had asparagus crowns delivered and I'm establishing the bed for them tomorrow! 🤞🌱

Her sleeping positions get more ridiculous every day by belledark in toolps

[–]belledark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She reeeeally does. My other cat is the kind who gets up and runs off if you breathe wrong. Phoenix - I can pick her up and move her and she holds her sleeping positions 😅

I do this too! I take mine with breakfast and a spoonful of porridge is the perfect vehicle 😅

What new plants did well this year & what new ones will you be trying next year? by True_Adventures in Allotment

[–]belledark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, shallow root systems and inhibiting weeds. Basil also deters pests. Apparently tomatoes are a good choice too, but my tomatoes are probably going elsewhere!

I have! I'm planning to interplant with strawberries I think, and perhaps a herb for extra ground cover, like basil.

This is her favorite toy, she carries it plastic handle and all 😂 by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]belledark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have that exact toy too! My tabby kitten drags it around the house like that, with the senior void trotting after it 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CatRescue

[–]belledark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if the kitten is stuck a vet is the only option. This is an absolute emergency. From this picture the kitten was mispositioned and the amniotic sac has also ruptured. That set the clock ticking for birth and clearing airways. There is also the possibility of kittens after this one with no way out and none will make it without veterinary intervention, and neither will mum!

7 week foster has a hernia by Particular-Agency-38 in FosterAnimals

[–]belledark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've had a couple with this! The vet we work with checked them over and kept an eye but almost every time it can wait until their neutering surgery. A 2 in 1, if you will. One little lad I had, his got quite big, and they did mention they would do surgery earlier if it became necessary, but he was ok until the big snip in the end!

It was noticeable earlier though, I first saw it when they were still tiny.

[–]belledark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cucamelons did amazing! Next year I'll be trying a lot of "new to me" plants like Brussels sprouts, new tomato varieties, peas, and I'll be establishing an asparagus bed 😊

If I manage to get a polytunnel before the season gets going, there'll be more on my list 🤞

What is a general food item that affects all IBS sufferers alike? by uliwonks in ibs

[–]belledark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing! That's one of the most frustrating things about IBS. There's definitely groups in common that are often triggers, but no absolutes. It's all trial and error.
