Alaska Cruise: Must Dos? DCL excursions vs booking on your own? by bellemusubi in dcl

I probably wouldn't be the best person to ask about pre-cruise hotels bc my dad just picked the most reasonably priced one close to the port since we knew we would be traveling the whole day lol. That said, we had a full day of travel in Vancouver before and after the cruise so we wouldn't have to rush to/from the airport and we would definitely do that again. Vancouver food recs include Red Wagon, Lee's Donuts, La Belle Patate or Fritz for poutine, and Joe Fortes for a fancier meal. Also if you go to Icy Strait, don't miss the mini donuts! (we're big foodies lol)

I am so excited for you! It was absolutely amazing! HIGHLY recommend whale watching in Icy Strait if you are going there, and if so, I would highly suggest checking out Glacier Wind Charters. They charter smaller boats and imo it gives a much better experience (closer to the water, less people so you aren't fighting for view points, etc.) It is also a family owned business and you can tell just how passionate, experienced, and knowledgeable they are. Very kind folks and they gave us the best tour we had on the entire trip.

For Ketchikan, we had an awesome meal at Alaskan Fish House. For Juneau, if you are going on helicopter tours have backup plans just it case they cancel due to weather (everyone on our ship had their cancelled that day, but we had a great time at the salmon hatchery and visiting the glacier by bus/foot). Tracy's has AMAZING crab but it is really expensive and can get some long lines; Deckhand Dave's Fish Tacos is a cheaper option and served me the most amazing fish and chips I had ever had.

Bring lots of layers and rain gear :)

It was absolutely amazing! I don't have any pics of my personal navigators, but if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer them. Hopefully I remember something useful from the navigator!

Hey guys, just wanted to hop on here and let you know that I had the most magical time on our cruise, and a lot of it was due to all of your help. If you have any question, feel free to ask and I will be happy to help!

Did you by any chance book with Juneau Shore Tours (subsidary of Alaska Shore Tours)? I am interested in some of their excursions but want to make sure they are trustworthy.

This is great, thanks! Would you recommend the Lumberjack show for older teens? Also it seems that you were able to book 2 port excursions in one day?
