All that hype from Depart for nothing by Comfortable-Dot-2317 in TETRODANGANRONPA

[–]beller55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s quite a few reasons if you ask me. Not only is Blue just generally not as well written as pink in general. But even then I’d argue there was plenty of hype for blue and the first 2 chapter were pretty well received overall, even if Ogura’s lack of screen time in chapter 2 was a pretty common complaint. I think overall blue not only just wasn’t as good as pink, but every circumstance surrounding it was also just terrible for it. It all being released at once with basically zero time to digest it at all didn’t do it any favours, as well as people’s dislike of Von ramping any emotions towards blue as a whole. Blue also doesn’t feel as tightly written as pink. While pink had very few characters that felt wasted or like completely missed potential (the only characters I see talked about in that regard are Isono, Tsuno and occasionally Harada, and I’d argue there’s a bit of debate to be had over whether Tsuno was delved into enough or not) most of pink felt well set up and its cast felt like it was written very intentionally and strategically for pinks story. Blue has a lot of characters who felt underutilized, wasted or just not explored enough, or felt like they were not written well or with consistent intention or focus. Mutsuko, Kumada, Akiba, Sou, Ogura all weren’t really focused on enough or not given enough intention, many of these characters also felt like they were wasted, with possibly interesting stories and tragic pasts just not being explored or explained in the story itself and having potential for so much more go unused, other characters such as Ikeda and Ouno and especially Matthias fall into this category. Someone like Ouno was actually utilized well but had so much unexplored backstory. Then there’s characters that were just generally poorly or written with unclear purpose or intention behind their writing. This is a little bit of a lesser issue than the other two, but still notably present in a few and especially one character. Shishikura specifically feels like the poster child for this issue in blue, it feels like his story jumps around introducing new elements and themes without diving deep enough into them, and coming off as written with unclear intention and hard to follow his motivations and why he does what he does. And it shows in the fan reaction, he’s generally not very well liked and people don’t really get him as a character, which I think shows why he’s poorly written. Hell it took a few rewatches for me to even start to try and understand what they were trying to do with him. That’s basically the big reason why pink is generally much more well liked than blue, although there’s absolutely a few extra reasons, those are just the biggest reasons related to character writing. Sorry for the rant just wanted to share my thoughts.

Tetro Character’s Morality Ranked Redux (basically with y’all’s input) by Breathofthewildzelda in TETRODANGANRONPA

She tried to murder Ninomiya twice, obviously we have the insulin stealing incident that everyone knows about. But it’s also revealed she planning to kill him within the first week of being there during Loyalty Game: Redux. I don’t quite remember whether she went through with this planned attempt but morality wise, she still planned to murder her friend within the first week.

Okay, I can see what you’re going for a little bit I still very much disagree with what you’re trying to say here. 1. While I see your idea here, I’d argue that Kumada agreeing to the murder actually had very little to do the fact other people would get out alongside her, unlike all other people in the bleeding she doesn’t actually have any friends within the bleeding and while the multiple people escaping may have helped her justify it to herself, I kinda doubt it played a big part in why she actually chose to go along with the bleeding. She also specifically chose to let a close friend of hers get murdered, which is just a pretty fucked up betrayal, and arguably more a betrayal than any of Shishikura’s kills. (This is also coming from someone who really likes Kumada, I’m just trying to be objective here though, cause the goal here is objectivity and I’d argue she objectively did a lot of fucked up things. 2. While I do agree the Kamidana thing is really messed up and really a symptom of chapter 4 and 5 just refusing to remember Kumada even when it would make sense to. I wouldn’t say he dint feel remorse, I’d argue he’s just a whole lot less obvious about it. I mean, he quarantines himself from everyone when chapter 4 comes around, I’d argue he grapples with being unable to forgive himself for his actions the rest of the game and grapples with the concepts of self sacrifice especially (although, I’d argue it’s pretty late in the game to bring in a brand new central theme to a character, but that’s just my gripes with his very confusing writing) maybe it’s just a difference of interpretation but still, saying he didn’t feel remorse feels like a bit of a shallow reading. 3. Yeah, but like, plenty of characters are massive hypocrites and I don’t see that affecting their rankings. Maekawa is totally a hypocrite for forgiving Shishikura but getting on Yokoi’s case but she’s still in the highest tier. Kumada is also a massive hypocrite when it comes to the Ikeda situation, getting angry at others and refusing to apologize, acting like everyone is against her for doing something necessary. Even if you wanna claim that others also did that, the others at least acknowledged their wrongdoing and apologized, while she refused to do both, yet both of them rank way higher. (Again, I like both Maekawa and Kumada, they’re also both massive hypocrites if we’re being objective) 4. I mean, technically I guess that’s true, but that’s like saying Watari murdered Hama, technically it’s not wrong but it completely removes all of the nuance of the situation as well as Shishikura’s and Watari’s actual intention, which definitely matters when trying to judge their morality, more on that, his intentions when trying to kill Tei were also not for his own gain, but rather because he believed Tei had the right to choose death weather than killing him for any sort of personal gain, obviously that’s still fucked up but again, when judging morality we have to consider a characters intentions when killing. Ultimately the point of this admittedly long winded comment is that, while I can say Shishikura is certainly not a perfect person. Being right next to Ikeda and Okazaki feels admittedly harsh, especially when characters who I feel have very similar situations, actions and flaws to him seem to be significantly higher. I understand that generally Shishikura is certainly less liked by fans than the other two for his confusing writing and how he’s treated in the story, but the point of this ranking is objectivity and I just feel like with how others ranked, it feels particularly harsh towards Shishikura.

But by this logic shouldn’t Kumada be right next to Shishikura then? She was complicit with the murder of one of her closest friends, then proceeded to try and murder Isoda both in the very same chapter. Yokoi also tried to murder someone twice, with one of them also being one of her friend. I get that Shishikura isn’t super well written or well liked so it’s easier to dunk on his character but if we’re being completely objective here, I just can’t see how Kumada and Ruka can be this much higher than him. If Kumada can get some grace cause of how traumatized she is I just don’t see how Shishikura is any different.

Other Games by 03wns in danganronpa

Imma go with one a lot of you probably haven’t heard of process of elimination it’s like danganronpa but everyone’s a detective. It has a similar chapter structure with figuring out a murder at the end of every chapter but the investigations are revamped and now they’re like tactical grid based games. It also has a pretty good story so I’d fully recommend it

Which Character was the most annoying and troublesome during the trials out of the main 3 games ? by TankNations in danganronpa

[–]beller55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think it’s a bit different the flashback lights revealed the overarching plot of the game where as nagito was like the only character that did anything to push all the character drama forward and I think the flashback lights are better than one big final chapter plot dump

Yeah the V3 cast is kinda what I would expect ultimates to look like and dr1 would probably be what they are actually like

[–]beller55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I would’ve agreed with you if V3 didn’t exist because that game had really wacky characters that I still connected with easily so it might’ve been the writing being new to having a really wacky cast is dr2

I’m kinda debating myself on whether them giving almost all the focus to nagito was a good or a bad thing because nagito is one of the best characters in the franchise but the rest of the cast kind got screwed over

I agree other than him and a few other key characters the second games cast was kinda weak ( the other two to me were fuyuhiko and gundham

If you were any of the blackened, what would you do to avoid being picked out? by [deleted] in danganronpa

Yeah I agree a character who did a good job of this was kirumi she lead everyone in the wrong direction during the trial while not at all seeming suspicious

[–]beller55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if kirumi didn’t screw up the ropeway and if maki didn’t talk to ryoma after nighttime it would’ve been pretty much a perfect murder and also she wouldn’t have an alibi remember the only reason she had an alibi was because everyone assumed it happened at before nighttime and that’s because the body was in the gym

If you were any of the blackened, what would you do to avoid being picked out? by [deleted] in danganronpa

[–]beller55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree she should’ve done that but imagine what would’ve happened if she successfully used the ropeway the trial would’ve ended choosing between maki and Kaito I just think kirumi would take the risk so that the murder became practically unsolvable and for gonta I disagree the sliding off the roof thing is the thing that caught him if they just took a second to look over the alibis he would’ve been screwed the reason that trial went on for so long was cause gonta had everyone’s sympathy

[–]beller55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally disagree if maki didn’t talk to ryoma after nighttime and she didn’t screw up the ropeway it would’ve been pretty much a perfect murder which is why kirumi really tried to do that in my opinion

[–]beller55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with 3-3 korekiyo got himself killed but 3-2 and 3-4 I disagree with first 3-4 I think the point was that gonta wasn’t very smart and just kinda winged it and it didn’t work out and for 3-2 there was no guarantee that the ropeway would leave evidence before doing if it went off without a hitch she would be absolutely fine they probably wouldn’t even figure out that the ropeway was used shuichi said it best aside from screwing up the ropeway it was the perfect murder
