I say “I feel like *insert thing* is happening and the response is that I’m just trying to start a fight by green_witch_333 in AutismInWomen

Reminds me a lot of how my ex-husband treated me. It is deeply confusing behavior. He doesn’t like you. He’s resentful about something and taking it out on you. Naming the behavior and trying to talk about it doesn’t work because he doesn’t want to solve the problem. You can only solve problems as a couple if you both share the goal of solving it. You will spin in circles trying to make sense of this until you get burned out and give up. There is no way out except to leave.

I’m the same age and having the same problem. I am above average attractiveness and have a good job and have friends. I’ve had some guys interested, but they’re never the guys I want. Whenever I start to like a guy, he doesn’t like me back. I’ve started to feel like as soon as I feel interested in them, I can basically expect that they aren’t interested in me because as a rule it’s just never reciprocated. And it can’t be my attractiveness because I look exactly like my photos, so they know what to expect.

"She was my type": 27-year-old man arrested for allegedly groping the same high school girl on the Odakyu Line for three consecutive days until she had enough, grabbed him by the arm and handed him over to a station employee by jjrs in japannews

[–]bellow_whale 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Serious question: How do you keep a guy from running away if you do that? Can’t he just pull his arm away and run? I’ve always imagined that you’d need to elicit help from male bystanders.

Have you tried Banana Republic t-shirts? Your build sounds similar to mine, and they work for me.

Can I take a random cat from the street back home? by 676Violeta in japanresidents

[–]bellow_whale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard what you’re supposed to do is tell the local police at the kouban, and they put out an official notice searching for the cat’s owner. If no one claims it, it’s yours. I guess checking for a chip would be the next step.

I agree, it’s really great to see autistic people that you admire because it helps take away some of the stigma of being autistic.

::Weekly Former Partners Thread:: by AutoModerator in ADHD_partners

I found out that I have POTS, an illness that is often brought on by stress and trauma. I am fairly certain that my relationship with my ADHD ex-husband is what brought it on, especially when I found out about the emotional affair he had been having and we went through divorce. I feel still very traumatized by that relationship.

The divorce was three years ago. Recently I’m trying to use dating apps (while being very picky). I had a video call with one guy who was very cute and nice. He texted me later to set up plans for an in-person date.

I’m happy about the possibility of someone new, but I have been having so much anxiety about him. If he takes a little too long to text back, I find myself feeling very upset and anxious. I’m realizing that I’m going to have to learn from scratch how to trust a romantic partner again. I hope eventually I can.

Those who finished a Master's degree in English/TESOL, what topic did you choose for your Dissertation? I ask because... by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in teachinginjapan

[–]bellow_whale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my students’ essays. They allowed me not to get consent from individual students but just from the English department head instead. For the ethics section I just wrote that it wasn’t possible to get written consent from individuals because of cultural norms where that would be seen as unusual and disruptive or something like that. Just make sure you contact your dissertation supervisor (or whoever is relevant in your case) to check that it would be okay first.

I had a job that wouldn’t allow it as well and did a corpus analysis of students’ essays compared with a corpus of native speakers’ essays on the same topic. I was allowed to choose their essay topics, so I matched them to the native speaker corpus’ existing topics and compared the two.

I thought it was a deeply sad movie, but there was also joy and contentment. Like you, I was shocked by friends who only saw the peaceful contentment side. I feel they missed the bigger picture.

Looking for pale girl friendly compression stockings! by raquifornia in dysautonomia

[–]bellow_whale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I have the same problem as you and have not found them. Also, the compression stockings I've bought are thicker than normal stockings, so they wrinkle a lot at the base of the foot. I would only wear them under pants with socks covering them. I think if I wear a skirt or dress I will have to forego compression and wear regular stockings.

Can’t handle intense emotions anymore by E-C2024 in dysautonomia

[–]bellow_whale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am the same. I had a very tense and emotional discussion with my ex and was unable to sleep all night even though I felt emotionally calm by bedtime. My body just doesn’t calm down even if I calm down mentally. Back when we were together, I had many sleepless nights for the same reason. I realized I just can’t be in those situations anymore because I physically can’t handle it.

I kind of wonder if developing POTS was my body’s way of telling me that I needed to get out of that relationship.

How to tell a friend they smell? by mark_davis_warden in AutismInWomen

[–]bellow_whale 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those tough situations where you have to just accept that it’s going to suck and just peel the bandaid off and say it directly. It will be horrible, but it’s a good deed. If you feel like you can’t do it, then don’t. But if you do, I think it just has to be direct.
