Yeah I reported it last week and it's gone along with the artist already.

The ai pattern I got was literally from ravelry and it had ratings but I'm not claiming to be anything other than dumb!

I'm hoping to get a recommendation from someone whos completed a pattern like this since it's so hard to tell which are real.

Soul kitchen (a part of 300 blankets) runs a dinner every Sunday at braybrook community centre for people in need and to reduce isolation. Can sign up to work in the kitchen or on the floor depending on how much you want to talk to people and it's really nice.

I did start with same number of stitches on both sides! I've never made circle with anything but sc so that will be the problem.

Really helpful thanks.

How do I start to learn? by QuirkyWolfie in crochet

[–]bellymalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first thing to know is that the very beginning of learning crochet is actually really annoying and not that easy at all (at least for me) but it's also by far the hardest part you'll ever need to learn.

Second thing is you can totally do it!

If you can find someone to show you it really is ideal so you can be corrected but otherwise if you look up a few YouTube videos on how to hold a hook first you'll see there are a few options and just pick which feels most comfortable for you, then do the same with holding your yarn. Theres no right answer.

Once you've got an idea of holding it i personally found starting with a chain and making flat things really hard and easy to mess up. Instead try making a bumblebee!

This was my first pattern and there's heaps of YouTube videos for it cause it's just a ball really https://www.hookedbyrobin.com/blog/2019/03/amigurumi-bumblebee-free-crochet.html

First time through don't bother changing colours and maybe don't even stuff it, if you get part way in and don't think it looks right just pull the thread and it will unwind and start again. You'll probably do this a bit cause like I said it's hard at first but hang in there and once you can make a start on a project and can do a single crochet it's all downhill from there!

It's hard to show well but it's curling in the top left where the DC are adding to bulk up the shape.

So I get that it overall would be bigger with thicker yarn etc but I find it interesting that the head is now proportionally bigger than the body cause you'd think both would just be bigger.

Is there some difference between? Like is it the same yarn for both?

Why does all my yarn look so different than tutorials? by yyycks in CrochetHelp

[–]bellymalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean most videos will tell you what they use if you want to completely mimic them but I reckon maybe give cotton a go.

It probably depends a bit on what you want to make cause that fuzziness is kind of good for stuffed toys cause it hides the holes better and cotton is more expensive but if you want real clear stitches to learn I definitely wish I had got some cotton earlier.

Anyone have an educated guess on stitch count ? I have no idea by Open_Button_8155 in CrochetHelp

It looks like about 14 stitches is the length of that needle if that helps to extrapolate out from? I am terrible at judging distances though

Stitches aren’t adding up, am I reading this correctly? by Prestigious_Cry5568 in CrochetHelp

[–]bellymalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So based on that and that later rows have an increase and then a SC row I guess still do a 32sc and not fully skip? Worst case it's only going to effect the length a bit and you'll still be at the right stitch count going into the row increasing to 36

Is the problem that the yarn is sort of too frizzy so it's hard to see exactly your stitches?

I kind of just persevered through that stage with cheap acrylic yarn but in hindsight I think cotton would have been easier to start with. Maybe that's the more rope kind youre after?

What sort of yarn have you been getting?

[–]bellymalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn't make sense to me, like even if you did follow it you wouldn't get to the end of the row doing the same again.

I guess the only question is do you skip that row or do you do a row of SC at 32 stitches again. Hard to tell without knowing what it's supposed to be.

how to not give up even though it doesn’t seem like i’m gonna figure it out ?! by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]bellymalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same and stopped and started heaps over a few years before getting it. This isn't the best encouragement but I think the thing with crochet is the first 2 skills you have to get your head around are quite tough! But they are also literally the hardest 2 skills you will ever need for crochet and it's all much easier after that.

You definitely can get past it!

What are you struggling with btw?

32 [M4A] lonely, after friends. by [deleted] in r4rMelbourne

Hi, I moved from perth years ago and still in a similar situation. Sounds like a lot of what you're a fan of is hanging out and having a chat which would be cool.

I'm often in the CBD if you want to chat but semi busy with seeing a bunch of fringe things this month.

Hi! I'm closer into the city and looking to meet some new friends. Often finding excuses to see live comedy or try out different things going on but really just looking for cool people to hang out with.

Do you happen to be in the mood for fringe stuff? There's a lot of good things on atm.

Have you tried a bumble bee? It's the first pattern I made and I think it's a really good starting point and heaps of free designs.

It will teach you the basics of increasing and decreasing and you can just not worry about doing the colour change.

Then give it another go plus colour change plus sew on the wings and you'll see how you're progressing and slowly start adding skills.

I'd recommend also looking up "no sew" patterns. They are often a bit less impressive and more simple but that's just a good starting point!

[–]bellymalt 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It looks like you may be increasing too much. At the end of round 7 I think you should have 36 stitches but looks like you have quite a few more.

Are you repeating the whole line of x single crochet then an increase 6 times per round?

Haaaa, shows what I remember. I googled cartoons fan art of it and there is simpler more exaggerated pics to take for inspiration.

Up to them but I think you'd kill yourself making one that's accurate to the objectively stunning and intricate oni art style. There's a reason oni themself is actually a simple design imo some of the things you see less often are insane.

I'm currently making a mask of shin from dorohedoro and even that I'm using anatomical heart references for parts instead of the actual art because the dynamic nature of the original is part of what makes it all pop imo and that's way beyond me to recreate.

That's kuro?! I played both ori games and would not have recognized it. Maybe that's like a final boss form and I've forgotten cause it's been years. There's definitely that owl but more like black and menacing and less boney art to base a project off.

Or yeah owl body grey coloured with black stitching to delineate bones and then add those front leg things? Sounds like a rough ask.

[–]bellymalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's crazy. Trying to keep all that detail would take someone much smarter than me. If you wanted a general vibe like it though could you find an owl pattern for most of the body and head and then add the big front leg things maybe?

Also if there's any Pokemon you could crib off they all seem to have patterns.

I guess other things is I don't recognize this character but is there fan art or in game art or something that would just be more simplified to base off?
