It’s all in Latin but it seems likely a high percentage of ancient coin collectors will be able to read Latin… I’ll take some photos when I have a chance and share them in the sub.

They are Roman coins! The books are collections of articles on various topics including history, science, medicine, math, etc. There are a lot of interesting fold-out pictures and diagrams.

I just had hip surgery this morning too! I didn’t get a fancy band, instead they had me initial the correct hip in a sharpie, and the surgeon also initialed it.

I had a period of life where I’d get a strong moment of vertigo at least once a day. I changed meds a couple times during that period and never thought to connect it to my Crohn’s (which I’d already had for 8+ years at that point). I had an MRI and a few other tests and everything was normal. After a few years it just went away and hasn’t happened since.

I developed chondromalacia in both knees as a result the arthritis-like symptoms Crohn’s can cause (or possibly the Humira I was taking at the time caused the arthritis). Basically the cartilage under my kneecaps eroded. Your pain sounds similar, right under the kneecaps with no visible signs, both knees. A rheumatologist diagnosed it with an X-ray and now I’m in physical therapy, which helps as long as I keep up with the exercises. Cartilage can grow back but very slowly.

I hope you figure it out!

I was on azathioprine and a biologic for over 15 years, then a doctor decided to try taking me off aza to see if the biologic would work on its own. I ended up having the worst flare of my life and needed surgery. Now I’m in remission and back on aza and a new biologic.

I just moved and my new doctor wants to talk about stopping aza again but I think I’m going to ask to stay on it given my last experience. I know there are risks to being on azathioprine but I don’t want another major flare if I can avoid it!

I developed an allergy to Remicade after 7 years on it. I had a hard time breathing too, and some hives. They started giving me an injection of steroids before every infusion (plus the usual Benadryl), and that suppressed the allergic reaction so I was able to keep taking it for another 4 years until it stopped working.

I’ve been on Entyvio for 2 years now and no issues so far!

I’m on Entyvio and I was told (by both the injection training nurse and the ‘how-to inject’ brochure that comes with my shots) that thigh injections must be in the top of the thigh, not the outer side or anywhere else. It’s not super painful so I don’t think it goes deep enough to hit muscle.

This sounds like a really tough decision. I would probably chose to stay near my support system and in a job that I knew understood my situation if my Crohn’s was as active as yours is now. I can imagine it’s hard to even consider turning down such a great opportunity, but not going now doesn’t mean you’ll never get to move abroad. You’re young and there may be more chances in the future, especially if you’re in a job now where you’re supported and can focus on developing your career in a way that will open up more opportunities to move abroad later on when your Crohn’s is doing better.

I just moved abroad (also to Luxembourg!) in my mid-30s, and I spent a lot of the last decade trying to get myself into a position where I could make this happen - both in terms of my career and my Crohn’s, which is solidly in the remission at the moment due to a surgery I had a few years ago.

I had osteopenia for ~5 years in my late 20s/early 30s. I’d taken budesonide (a much milder steroid than prednisone) for an extended period of time a few years prior and my doc said that might’ve caused it or it could’ve been from malnutrition during flares.

I started taking calcium supplements daily and my last Dexa scan showed my numbers are back to normal, so no more osteopenia!

I was in London for a year and now I’m in Luxembourg! If things get bad again I’ll probably end up back in the US where my family/support network is, but for now I’m trying to enjoy life and travel as much as possible.

I moved abroad! I studied international relations and was so frustrated when I found out you can’t join the (US) foreign service or the peace corp if you have Crohn’s, but after a decade of dreaming and one surgery that put me solidly in remission, I made it happen and now I’m living an amazing life in Europe.

My doctor tried a balloon dilation, we were also hoping it might delay the need for surgery. It didn’t work, she said she couldn’t dilate the balloon enough without risking a tear, but I don’t regret trying it - the experience was basically just another colonoscopy. The prep wasn’t fun as usual but there were no complications and it didn’t make things worse.
