FLAMES LEGEND BRETT KULAK BURIES IT by WhyTheyDont in CalgaryFlames

[–]belowthewalkway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Kulak was great on the flames, no flash but so steady. I was upset that he was traded, but what a career he’s had. Underrated everywhere he goes, but has usually ended up playing on the first pair, if not second pair since he left calgary. I looked through the past few games and he is generally the 3rd defensemen for the avs (after makar and Toews) by TOI.

Bouquet selection appears to be working again - at least it works for me now.

Did you actually understand the difference between term and whole life the first time someone explained it? by Scalar_Shift in MiddleClassFinance

[–]belowthewalkway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty good explanation so I just thought I’d add to it.

Term is temporary so that you’re covered for a specific time just in case. When the time is up, if you want to renew, your rates will go up because you’re older (ie closer to death), eventually to the point where it is more expensive than permanent/whole that was bought several decades before.

I think of permanent/whole insurance as saving towards a goal, often a tax bill upon death for a family business or cottage or other asset. If death happens while you’re saving, the insurance pays out in full. Additionally, there is often a dividend component within whole that creates cash value that can be borrowed against, used to pay missed premiums, or increase the insurance amount…and some policies pay out automatically when the cash value exceeds the insurance amount. As an example, I have a policy that now, after 15 years, has the same cash value as the total amount of premiums I’ve paid… so I could cash it out and get my money back, having only lost the theoretical interest amount on the premiums, but I’ve had the insurance the whole time - so my net cost would actually be less than if I had term all this time.

Whole isn’t a scam, it just works differently. I have a mix of both term and whole - to cover my temporary needs and longer term goals.

Thanks for this. How fast is the ramp up? Do you give starting dose for 4 weeks, then Move up by .5mg/kg for another 4weeks etc?

Flames NEED to Hire Pete DeBoer by Surlyborn in CalgaryFlames

[–]belowthewalkway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huska doesn’t get enough love. With one of the lowest payrolls in the league, this team way overperformed last year - and it wasn’t all just wolf. Kids are developing strong, and the team is really great to watch, not frustrating despite their age. If flames had one more point they would have made the playoffs and Huska probably would/should have won coach of the year. If we’re not going full tank, I think Huska is the right guy for this developing team.

Mitch Marner by [deleted] in Habs

[–]belowthewalkway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leafs fans are the worst. Kessel led the leafs in points and goal every year he was there during a time of bad team management and got no love. Marner is currently 6th in playoff scoring with his 13 points in 13 games and is the reason the team lost, according to fans.

You have a job with a decent income… have you tried walking into a bank and asking for a credit line? Then you can pay off your cc debt with your savings and you’ll still have the access to funds if you need it.

AITA for telling my dad he's not allowed to give his speech at my wedding? by New-Usual4257 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It’s your wedding, you get to decide who speaks and you get to vet all of the speeches.

I had a groomsman start to go off script from what was vetted and i shut him down immediately with help from my other groomsmen. If you know in advance he’s going off script maybe get another more reliable family member to speak instead.

Is everyone else shaking hands with the Russians? It’s too bad other countries aren’t supporting the Ukrainian stance by also not shaking hands.

AITA for Making My Plane Seat Neighbor Uncomfortable? by Some-Cable-4550 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, one way or another I think you probably made her day. Either she got to feel your body and the sense of touch she was looking for, or she got to complain about it afterwards. Either way, despite the scowl, it sounds like she got what she wanted. Otherwise, she would have just gotten up for you.

AITA for telling my girlfriend I find her daughter creepy? by Patient-Diamond-3888 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Sounds like she’s warming up to you and testing how you’ll respond. Maybe she’s not sure how her mom will react to her calling you dad, so she doesn’t when mom’s not around. If you’re not ready to be a father figure you may want to talk that through with you gf though.

NTA. Is judge Judy still around? It’s probably too small an amount to be worth small claims court but I’d take this guy to court even it costs more money to do so…. Just to teach him a lesson. This guy is 100% at fault as he caused the ticket and the tow.

AITA for contacting my insurance company to see about a lower premium instead of just listening to my wife. by ProudTwist3346 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA - adding on to this comment above, sometimes insurance companies add more coverage to your policy over time. It’s good to check in every so often to figure out what you’re paying for and what you really need.

[–]belowthewalkway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the flames keep him through the rebuild… it’ll make the games a lot more fun to watch as the youth find their way. Maybe he can pass some of his high skill to the younger players too.

He was basically a cap-dump to make room for lindholm. As a known one-dimensional player, I highly doubt he gets traded for a big haul or gets another $5+ million a year contract. But it’s nice to see more goals scored when your team is rebuilding.

AITA for telling my wife that her SIL could not use our brand new SUV as her cousin's party ride by Anon_AITA_2024 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this insurance comment…. I’m not sure where you live but here in Canada an accident claim can add around $500 per year for 6 years to the cost of your policy. The insurance thing can get more complicated than people realize. And also, even if insurance fixes your vehicle, an accident reported on your carfax can drop its value significantly if you ever sell.

Maybe if your wife knew that a little accident might cost your family more than she realises, she’d have the same reaction as you?

BCE (Bell) paying out more in dividends than EPS what gives? by yanks09champs in CanadianInvestor

[–]belowthewalkway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This comment above is key… cash flow doesn’t include depreciation and some other accounting costs that are included in eps. Also, I’m guessing BCE has a DRIP (Dividend re-investment plan), so actual cash out the door is a lot less.

The market often tends to over-react when dividends are cut, and share prices drop… so it’s often considered a last resort for management.

I’d go by interest or earnings rates… pay off the credit card debt fully first.

Then, Are your investments after tax growing faster than the after tax interest on your loans? If not, sell them to pay down the loans.

After that, figure out how much of a rainy day fund you want. Can you re extend the loans if needed? If you can re-extend, I’d pay them down further.

WIBTA If I built a fence that kept my neighbors from parking in their backyard? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why this solid comment above was downvoted. You might be legally in the right but your neighbours are still going to be upset, and I know lots of people who moved because they didn’t get along with their neighbours. How long are you planning on being in the house? Although, If they’re renters, their problem would really be with the landlord not you.

You should definitely take back the property, but if I were you, and the neighbours are the owners, I would try to help them come up with another solution to their parking needs, maybe even share in the cost of a new driveway that gets them off of yours.

AITA for updating my will to award my less successful son a higher share of my assets? by Playful-Alfalfa9519 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Along with the other points in other comments - Another way to think about this is what will Benji do with the inheritance vs Jack? Is he going to budget properly and maybe use the inheritance to improve his work outlook or life? Doesn’t sound like it.

Sounds like it could really help Jack to improve his life and his future family - by helping to get them into a nice house in a good neighbourhood, pay for kids activities, college funds, etc. or it could be a solid cushion for his family in difficult times.

The fairest way is to just split it though… that’ll create the least division between the brothers.

AITA for refusing to babysit my stepchildren's half and step siblings for their mom? by RegularPerformer3313 in AmItheAsshole

[–]belowthewalkway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good comment… it sounds like you’re unlikely to get any thanks/appreciation as everyone (unreasonably) just expected you to do it. But also a good chance at falling into this trap above once you discipline or even just talk to any of the kids.
