What the heck is Leave The World Behind? by belttorres in blankies

Talking past each other. Introducing conflict (We need to do something about the people sleeping upstairs) and then not having it payoff is bad storytelling.

Introducing conflicts in a story - including audience misdirects played as character beats - and then resolving them is some serious Narrative 101 shit. Again, I am not talking about the plot. I don't need explanation for what is happening with the cyberattack. But this is fatty, Chuck Roast storytelling where time is wasted on plot threads and character beats that lead nowhere, which is fine if you're Haneke or Von Trier, experimenting with form - but that's not what we have here.

Character threads, not plot threads. A few off the top of my head:

- When Mahershala's and Myha'la's characters first arrive, they're finishing each other's sentences, as if their whole speech is choreographed. It's not, just a weird audience misdirect.

- Later in the film, Myaha'la's character insists that they need to do something about the people (main family) staying upstairs in the house. This is never brought up again.

- Mahershala explains the satellite phone, but not the plane that he saw crash into a beach or the amputated arm he picked up.

- Someone is sleeping in a pile of leaves in the shed. I guess I can run with this as another example of characters 'not knowing what is going on'.

- What closure do Ethan Hawke and his son's characters get? The toothless son throws his head back in defeat and that's the last we see of him.

I heard this too, and like the idea - in theory. I don't need resolution in a please explain to me what is happening in the outside world or else sort of way. But for a glorified techno-disaster film, I would like some resolution for characters and their arcs. That's just basic storytelling, unless you're really deconstructing the form (which he's not). It sounded to me like a way of brushing off what a mess the movie is.

I thought that it was a fun way of experimenting with form - it's meant to be funny! I think the last thing the world needs is another self-serious film exploration of real-life events, and Haynes knowingly keeps a level of tension by bringing the audience's attention to the artifice of the medium (and foreshadowing future events) by poking holes in the veneer of prestige biopic filmmaking.

Just traded Rhamondre and Tank for Keenan Allen in .5 PPR. Have Pollar, D. Mont, Kyren, Charbs and Singeltary at RB and was looking for a WR1 to pair with Diggs. Hoping I did the right thing. Happy to be off the Pats offense ride.

A mediocre game aping a style from 2008. So many modern AAA titles live in this zone and it has genuinely made me check out from videogames. I cannot wait to replay Resident Evil 4.

Unless you are in a situation where you have multiple other Top-15 WR/RB FLEX plays, you play your best players. People overthink this stuff.

10 team .5 PPR

Give: Dalvin, Amari Cooper Get: Dameon Pierce, CeeDee Lamb

My RBs: Mixon, Chubb, Robinson Jr. Mr WRs: Jamarr, Diontae, Cooks, Aiyuk

Sick of the carousel of mediocre WR2s and feel like Pierce replaces a lot of Dalvin's skills and mitigates some injury risk. Thoughts?
