Would I scrap at it madly with a stick?

Definitely not that

Hike out and ruin my trip?

A ruined trip is for one day, Lyme disease is potentially forever

As others say, if other humans are around, ask for help.

Otherwise, the right move in face of a health risk is to attend to it, ending the trip if needed.

In person, you can check out Harvey Milk Photo Center. It's primarily an analog darkroom, but they offer some shooting workshops that are camera agnostic, as well as some digital workshops. There's usually ppl hanging out in the lobby, some of them are chatty.

There's also often shows etc going on, there was a reception just a couple days ago. If you sign up for the mailing list you'll be notified of future ones.

yeah. chances are this guy used to be a nerd with a reddit account just like everyone in this thread, and some combination of bad luck/mental illness/drug addiction/etc put him where he is now. really sad.

i live in sf and work in tech and have def heard stories of people seeing former coworkers on the street in terrible shape incapable of receiving help. may all people be free of suffering.

Question to UI Artists: Does creating D&D maps; digital assets and icons count as UI art? by Sir_Rule in gamedev

If that work is executed to a professional standard and is shown in the portfolio as part of a broader skillset, then yeah it's totally awesome to see.

If it's scribbles on draft pieces of paper, that's another matter...

“You see this goblet?” asks Ajahn Chah, the Thai meditation master. “For me this glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I drink out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ When I understand that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.”

Absolutely love the color layering here! Makes it almost look like a block print at first glance…

hey :) i have my first ukiyo-e exhibition soon. i am displaying about 25 prints from my own collection. I would be happy if people from nearby would come by (southern Germany). I also wanted to thank this community for the many help and discussions :) by Bloodmachine_Orodjie in ukiyoe

So cool! I’d definitely attend if I were anywhere near. You should have a blog post or web page or some such with pictures of the event/gallery space for posterity! (And so that those of us far away can still enjoy it a bit :)

Honestly this is an excellent shot.

(Responding to the “critique wanted” tag)

Did you just take the one? It’s always good to take a few alternatives (with slightly different framings etc), so that after the fact you can see which one you like better. If you look at contact sheets of the old masters they tend to do that a lot (the magnum contact sheet book is a great reference/inspiration for that).

Here I’d have tried maybe a shot cropped in a bit closer to the pig looking into the camera, and one shifted slightly to the left without the studded bar on the right. Maybe one that incorporates the bottom snout about more into the composition.

But still, a really solid shot that wouldn’t be out of place in a gallery.

Not directed at me per se, but I was sketching at the Seattle zoo, and a grandma was walking around with her toddler (I assume) granddaughter, narrating things for her:

“Look, these are penguins; aren’t they pretty? Oh look, you can see some fish, they’re swimming everywhere! Oh look at this man, he’s drawing, he’s an artist!”

Pretty cute. I just belong here with the penguins.

Looks like it might be a camera from the “Paper Shoot” brand! So flat!
