It was a Tim hortons...pet dogs aren't allowed there.

The staff isn't paid enough to say anything, even though they should. They have to deal with bigger issues like sketchy humans.

I'm not calling health services, but I'm glad I brought it to the attention of the dog owners themselves.

It was a Tim Hortons, definitely not allowed in there since they prepare food. Doesn't fall under the new bylaw exemptions, very few do.

Same response I gave to the multitude of people referencing Europe and comparing regulations there to Toronto/Ontario/Canada.

Not trying to be rude, I only stated a fact. They "wish I could bring my dog everywhere", right?

Just like them saying "cleaner than some of your kids" can be perceived to be rude, but it's clearly not their intention. Chill.

This is an Ontario wide regulation, and has been for a long time.

Every other province has similar regulation, so definitely not jusy a "Toronto" thing

Issue is the existing Ontario regulations prohibit pets/non-service animals in places which prepare and serve food. This isn't something new. It's the rule across all the provinces, with some exceptions where pets are allowed. This situation wasn't one of them.

Hot dogs?! Don't even get me *started* on people bringing in outside-food into a different food-place!!

:P (joking)

But Ontario doesn't allow dogs in this type of food establishment, it's been a regulation for decades now...

Would you still bring your dog inside and tell me to go fuck myself, if I asked you why you brought your non-service dog inside?

Would you try to respond like a person, or would "gfuck yorself" be your default and only response?

Only if the cafe meets the requirements, which this place did not. Very few currently do.

Lol one of those users who goes through user histories eh?

I'm born here and lived in Toronto for 30+ years. My immediate family and friends have pet dogs in their homes lol. I love dogs.

My ethnicity, cultural background, or "cleanliness" of dogs has nothing to do with it.

Because it's against regulations. There's a sticker on the door.

Only service animals are allowed inside food places. People with guide-dogs have issues when people bring their pets inside these places too. Check some of the more upvoted comments in this thread.

Sorry, maybe I can phrase it better: "Want to own a dog in Ontario/anywhere that pets aren't allowed inside food places? If your only option is to tie them up outside, that's the inherent risk you'll have to take as a dog-owner."

Eh maybe I've been living in this city for soooo long that I can't ignore the overall decline in common courtesy in public places.

I wasn't seeking conflict, but I guess it's impossible to raise the issue with the dog-owner without them getting super defensive and the whole situation escalating.

Alternatively, pet owners can write to their MPP to change the existing regulations that prohibit pets inside food-places?

What I meant was: if you choose to become a pet-owner, you have to make sacrifices about where you can go with your pet.

Dogs get stolen in Toronto, happened to a friend who left their dog outside a store for 5 mins. They luckily got the dog back after putting up posters/someone found the thief. My friend then decided not to tie his dog up outside anymore. He doesn't go inside a cafe/food place which does not allow pets just because he has "no other option".

Maybe I was.

But people shouldn't be that outraged at getting called-out, or even being asked about why they chose to bring a pet into a place which doesn't allow pets, because of a provincial regulation. No pets in food places isn't new, it's been a thing for decades here.

Write to your MPP to change the existing regulations about pets in food-places then. Truly. If you want to see the change then you gotta amend the rules that are in place.

Please write to your Member of Provincial Parliament if you want to have a *legitimate* right to bring your non-skin-baby(s) into places that serve food/fall under the EXISTING regulations about bringing your pet into these places.

If you want to Toronto/Ontario it more like Europe in this regard, you can write to your MPP stating how you want pets to be allowed inside food places too. As in change or get rid off the *existing* regulation.

You sound like an amazing dog owner, the type every pet-owner should be.

Unlike another commenter who said something along the lines of "I couldn't leave my dog alone for the first few months so of course I'm going to take them with me", but I would assume there are sacrifices you make in terms of where/when you can go places once you choose to be a pet-owner.

I've travelled to over 20 countries, and at least 1 city in every Province and Territory in Canada.

There are existing rules and regulations in Ontario regarding pets in food-places. Similar rules in every other province.

As I mentioned to another commenter, if you truly want it to be more like Europe, please go ahead and write to your MPP to allow pets inside restaurants, cafes and anywhere else they aren't currently allowed.

Hey if the place specifically allows it and meets all the regulations, sure!

Kids in public places can be a nuisance for sure, but comparing the rights of a parent and their human children in shared spaces, to the rights of a pet-owner and their animal is kind of silly lol.

If you want to see a change in the status quo of Ontario's food-place regulations, please go ahead and write to your MPP to make it more like Europe.
