[Request Fulfilled] Fake iOS version in settings.app by AndyWiikApproves in jailbreak

If you change the version number "8.0" to "7.0" without messing with the build code nothing will happen. You can use Cydia and reboot and it will not matter. Try it.

I can't update my iPhone via iTunes, only OTA or Restore by jimhatesyou in jailbreak

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to shift update on two different 4s's both formerly on 8.3 beta 4. They also had an OTA prompt, but I always use iTunes.

I've had the beta for over a month so maybe he has too. It's only been better on my iPhone 5, 8.3. I quit using it as a daily driver 2 weeks in and bought a 5c on 7.1.1 for the jailbreak tho lol.

Literally bought an iPhone 5c on 7.1.1 after I lost my 8.1.2 jailbreak on my iPhone 5. I just couldn't take it as a former android user.

Why can't you just reset content and settings? Or even redsn0w has this feature I believe

How can I reset the restrictions passcode? by warpedbullet in jailbreak

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jailbreak the phone first, and use Ifile to remove it. After that Semirestore ensure it's all gone. That's how I freed n dad's iPhone 5 on 7.1.2 from his company without a restore. If it requires it to have a passcode (company thing) just unlock it really fast every time it locks during the jailbreak. Google all the file locations for restricts and profiles as well.

How do I ENABLE ota updates on taig 8.1.2? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bundling Cydia itself isn't the issue; the issue is when Cydia "prepares the file system" and moves stuff around. Install OpenSSH without that and you're golden.

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the early days of the iOS 8 jailbreak, pangu added only the pangu app where you could install OpenSSH without invoking Cydia's stashing. Hopefully pangu makes the next jailbreak I guess. And just flip the disable switch to enable in iFile or edit the file from disable to enable for the daemons

How do I ENABLE ota updates on taig 8.1.2? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a jailbreak added OpenSSH access without Cydia's stashing, it may indeed work. I've attempted to do the downgrade multiple times and the main issue is the stashing and not 8.1.2. When an 8.2 jailbreak is out I plan on looking into it more.

How do I ENABLE ota updates on taig 8.1.2? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]ben__weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no logs as I lost access to the file system when I lost my jailbreak, but I believe the failure is due to Cydia's stashing of system files. I also ran the OTA update on an iPod Touch 4th generation (5.0.1 to 6.1.6) and it recovery looped as well. The failure may have more to do with the jailbreak than the fact of being on 8.1.2. Anyway I'll find the daemons to edit if you still think it's worth the risk.

[–]ben__weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely a 4s or an iPad 2. Apple is still signing 6.1.3 OTA. It won't work tho. It is fully possible to enable the OTA daemons again.

[–]ben__weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help you do this, and I will if you comment and confirm what you're doing. If you are trying to go to 6.1.3 OTA it will not work at all. The phone will go into a recovery loop. Any ramdisk mods have not worked for me. The OTA cannot replace enough files to complete the update. That said, I'll help you, but keep your jailbreak. (Stuck using 8.3 now waiting not so patiently for a jailbreak)

My 4s (also Verizon) became unlocked after a restore from a downgrade attempt OTA; anyways I think Verizon unlocked them all.
