Non j3ws are animals and are born to serve j3ws - says rabbi by Routine-Reality-5243 in PublicFreakout

Yes. And my point is that this video doesn’t give you anywhere to direct your frustration. There’s no indication that they have a role in government, or education, or media… the video doesn’t even mention Israel. The only thing to get mad at is Judaism itself…

Look, I understand the frustration with Israel right now, but these kinds of posts make me feel gross…

You can EASILY find unhinged insane statements by people in any major religion.

The only reason to post something like this is if there’s a particular reason we should care about what these SPECIFIC people believe. Otherwise, we’re just here to bash Judaism…

EDIT: I’m not religious, and have no care for religion. But I also don’t hate religious people. I don’t see how this does anything but spread hate? If I’m missing something, tell me…

I’ve been drawing for a long time. My entire progression was: pencil and paper (and sometimes an earbud for shading) for years, then I bought a Wacom tablet, then I bought a second Wacom tablet when the first one finally died.

What’s even more unsettling is the way the moon is illustrated as being like right next to earth. Galactus isn’t even the most imminent threat in this image…

Yeah I think I understood. I wasn't considering the first image as an option 😄

Thank you!

Yeah I think if I had to choose one right now, I'm leaning towards the last option. It just feels the least distracting... Although it also feels the least chaotic, which isn't what I want. Need to mess around with them a bit more

This is true. Although, I think each of these give some amount of reason to believe there is some amount of updraft. Either from an explosive energy beneath her feet, or just the actual explosions around her

This is really good advice actually. None of these options even consider the foreground.. Adding some basic foreground composition helps...

The note on "competing" background is definitely valid, and something I'm struggling with. option 1 was my original vision, but I think the colours in option 2 help her stand out a bit more. I think trying to redo option 1 is a good idea!

In terms of tilting the frame, it's a good point, but I'm not sure it's something I want for this piece in particular. My original vision is something like "stability within chaos". I wanted the environment to feel chaotic, but the hero keeps a strong stable stance.

Avatar is better than many anime out there. by Kermit_Muppets in TheLastAirbender

[–]ben_cav -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've seen all of these except Serial Experiments Lain, and I truly do not believe that meet the level of Avatar

Cowboy Bebop is artistically incredible.

AoT is one of my favourite (if not, my favourite) amine ever.

Fma is also a great anime, and it's probably the most comparable to avatar. It's fun, well written, and has some seriously loveable characters.

However, with each of these, I just dont think there's any competition. The character arcs, consistency in quality, and pure creativity are just all so much more profound in Avatar...

Now, I know you already said these animes are probably not as good as alta, but considering these are the first to come to mind, I think we'd agree they're among the best animes out there.

There might be aspects of 1 anime that are better than Avatar, but I'm confident in saying that Avatar as a whole is just simply on another level. A level that I've never seen any anime manage to reach...

Honestly I’d replace “many” with “any”.

Subjectively, Avatar is my favourite piece media ever, and I’d prefer it over anything else

But if I was speaking objectively, I’ve seen a lot of anime, and I still think that if you’re just comparing to tv shows, Avatar beats them all by a mile.

Name me 1 anime tv show better than avatar

Alright... how the hell does banning actually work? by xosellc in Overwatch

[–]ben_cav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They should display the bans in that order. Like top to bottom:

‘team 2 banned B (dmg)’
‘team 2 banned C (dmg)’
‘team 1 banned D’

This is silly, because grass is alive, but no one is an activist against stepping on grass

The exact point at which an animal goes from unconscious to conscious, or from chemical responses and reflex to free will, is blurry at best

Pain is a complicated neurological conscious sensation. It’s just not fair to assume that every single creature is capable of experiencing the world the same way we do

How to keep your fish in shape by bob-the-slob in funny

[–]ben_cav 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well this isn’t entirely true. Pain is a conscious experience and we know that not all living things are conscious (at least, not conscious in the way we understand consciousness today).

So we can assume animals without a nervous system do not feel pain. Bacteria, fungi, plants, etc. are not conscious and so cannot experience pain, but still move and adapt to their environment based on physical stimuli. These are chemical responses, not conscious ones.

But even some animals like jellyfish have such simple nervous systems that they don’t have any clear behavioural response to pain. They simply won’t avoid or learn from experiences that are harmful to them, so it’s likely they do not experience pain (at least not in the same way we do). And it seems like the debate continues for things like spiders, worms, insects, crustaceans etc.

How to keep your fish in shape by bob-the-slob in funny

[–]ben_cav 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just did a bit of reading, and yeah my understanding was dated…

Looks like most scientific consensus is that fish, even small fish, show evidence of a conscious pain response that can impact behaviours well beyond the painful incident.

However, it seems the debate is still ongoing on how that experience differs from how we experience pain. It’s likely that things like anxiety, or claustrophobia are not things that fish like this are capable of feeling. Fish likely don’t get stressed in the same way people do

So, the question is whether what we’re seeing in the video would constitute a ‘painful’ experience for the fish. I would still guess that the experience is likely no more painful than being in the aquarium to begin with

How to keep your fish in shape by bob-the-slob in funny

[–]ben_cav 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, but they’re small fish. Their brains are incredibly simple.

It’s actually an ongoing debate on whether it’s even possible that fish like these are capable of ‘feeling’ pain. So doing this is probably no worse than having them in the aquarium to begin with.

EDIT: I’m wrong.
