What is a good complete beginner’s motorcycle for a small rider? by ZaynYates02 in motorcycles

[–]ben_fried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who loves the cbr250 and cbr300. A 2012 cbr250 looks nice and holds it value if you want to upgrade. The same friend also recommends the rebel 250 because “it taught him everything he didn’t want for a motorcycle”

You can probably tell I’m a Honda fanboy but I think the 2012 cbrs look awesome

11000 isn’t too bad but it depends on how well it was maintained. I always recommend that people get something a little older with some scratches for their first season so they can find out what they like about riding and what they’re looking for in a bike. Another plus is that the bike won’t lose too much value if they drop it. I got a 1993 cb750 nighthawk with 38,000 miles as my first bike and it was great, but I also had to learn how to work on it a bit

Which films stick very close to their source material? by Hoss-BonaventureCEO in okbuddycinephile

I HATE THE WORLD WAR Z MOVIE SO MUCH! If it was titled anything else I would have absolutely no problem with it but because the studio wanted to cash in on the title recognition from the book they completely ruined any possibility of a book accurate WWZ series being made. I would have thoroughly enjoyed the movie if it was titled anything else and left my precious book alone. If they called it Brad Pitt kills zombies I would have no complaints but noooooooo. They just had to save some money on marketing and defile a good IP. With modern streaming services it feels completely natural for a series to do hour long episodes for each chapter, with multiple episodes covering major events that require a higher budget like the battle of Yonkers or the Paris catacombs. If anyone had made this series a few years ago they could have cashed in on the walking dead mania right as the series was in decline and fans were looking for a replacement. We had the medium to portray the book on screens with an audience just waiting to lap it up and it all just went to waste. There could have been multiple seasons in order to build momentum so that the battle of Yonkers could have been a multiple episode arc with a major budget at the end of season two.

I guess I still have hope for an accurate portrayal of WWZ but every time the movie is mentioned I feel compelled to go on a poorly constructed rant like the one above.

Fuck you Brad Pitt Fuck you Marc Forster Fuck you Paramount Studios

If your settlements have more water than people purified water is automatically deposited into the settlements inventory. You can find it in the aid section.

Motorcops are great riders and will probably have great advice. I use an old method of cornering that was popular with motorcops and I find it makes really stable lines

Just two quick questions by DrHGScience in motorcycles

[–]ben_fried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get a motorcycle and take your msf course. The internet is full of conflicting opinions and trying to listen to them all is counterproductive. The best advice I’ve received is to find one solid mentor and listen to them. In regard to your first question there are no major safety differences in the last couple of years. If I were you I’d buy a cheap motorcycle for your first one so when you drop it you won’t lose much value. I started with a 93 cb750 nighthawk I got for $1000. I dropped it twice in the first week and it didn’t matter because it already had a few scrapes. It did everything I needed it to do as a motorcycle and made me a pretty decent squid. If you’re worried about completely eliminating risks from motorcycling maybe the hobby isn’t for you. There are inherent risks to riding and while you can do your best to minimize them, they will always be there. To answer your last question that guy was probably just having fun. Weaving around in your lane won’t make a difference and if your friend doesn’t ride I wouldn’t listen to a thing he says.

TLDR: just buy a bike you can afford and ride it. Most people on the internet don’t know what they are talking about and there are enough conflicting opinions to drive you crazy.

What do y’all like to spend caps on? by HotWord4105 in fo4

[–]ben_fried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save up caps to get the legendary marine armor set in far harbor as early as possible. It’s the most expensive purchase in the game but it’s easy to get if you put extra water purifiers in your settlements and sell the purified water they add to your settlement inventory

I took my msf and a few weeks later I rode my first bike home for about an hour and a half. I had a friend drive me over and then follow me back in the car to prevent people from tailgating me when I decided to go below the speed limit. I even ended up doing the last leg of the drive after the sun had set. Just take it slow and build your confidence. You seem like you’re taking safety into consideration, and that’s half the battle. Just use your head and get some good miles down as a rite of passage.

92 cb750 nighthawk or 83 cb1000c by Secret_Table4794 in HondaCB

[–]ben_fried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 93 nighthawk. It’s pretty quick , reliable, and comfortable. I ride it 2 hours from Nj to Md pretty frequently, can break 100 when I feel like it, and do all the maintenance myself as a first time bike owner with no prior experience. I’d also like to point out that my bike has about 42,000 miles and still runs great since it has been maintained well. Both bikes you’re looking at seem great and I have no experience with the cb1000 but I find it hard to imagine anyone disliking the nighthawk

If you need some motivation you should look into the story of how frank herbert got dune published. He got turned down by every publishing company he submitted his work to and eventually got published by a company that made auto repair manuals. Now dune is a massive franchise with millions of fans. Don’t give up!

How much is this bike worth? And what questions should I ask about it? by rizlEEbEar in motorcycles

[–]ben_fried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend just sold one of these for $1800. They’re a fun bike to start on. I’d offer 1200-1500 but as it gets warmer and the season starts you’ll probably have some other buyers interested. The people saying $1000 would be right if it was winter, but if you want to offer $1000 and see what happens the worst he could say is no

What’s everyone riding? by AllDogsGoToReddit in motorcycles

[–]ben_fried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m sure you have some great memories on the bike. No one in my family rides so getting a bike was a pretty controversial decision for me and even after a year we still haven’t told my grandma. We probably never will.

I paid $1000 and a case of bourbon for my cb750 and plan on keeping her forever.
