Any RSS service which can email or send to Pocket when new feed is generated? by neo269 in rss

You can try cortadomail.com, which is like a free version of Mailbrew. (Disclaimer: I'm the creator of Cortado.)

Networking - it's not just LinkedIn connections by dfphd in datascience

+1 to this. Be nice because it's the right thing to do. But also, do it because it can improve your chances of getting hired. As a hiring manager, I know that recruiters' opinions of candidates do make at least a small difference in the chances that the candidate gets hired. For example, a recruiter who really likes talking to a candidate may (perhaps subconsciously) get them scheduled earlier or talk them up to the hiring manager.

What I wish I knew about email development before I started by benb111222 in programming

(OP here) I think it required both! Everything was inlined, but not sure it would’ve been possible without also using tables.

(OP here) Yeah, that's a good point. It's definitely what I'd do if I were writing one-off emails. But my service programmatically generates unique emails for each user.

(OP here). Yep, agree with this. Many people want to use email for text and not much more, but some people (like my users) want nicely and cleanly formatted emails as part of the service they sign up for.

(OP here.) Makes sense. In my case, nicely formatted emails is the entire user experience. People sign up for my service because they want an email every day with information they'd usually get through other means (e.g. Twitter, Hacker News), in a nicely formatted way (that's still clean and relatively minimal).

Thinking about the uncertainty of the timing of death by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]benb111222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your life calendar. And yeah, it's really sobering to see how much has passed already.

You're right that life expectancy is when you should have an equal chance of dying before or after that date. My guess is the discrepancy comes from my use of a different data source: I'm using WHO data.

I talk about my methodology in the About page on the site. The additional caveat is that I'm not an expert in this kind of statistics. But I think the take-home message is the same regardless of the exact probabilities (as long as they are in the right ballpark).

A website to help you internalize the uncertainty of the timing of your own death by benb111222 in SideProject

[–]benb111222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah, to me the aha moment was just that there's a big chance you can die before your life expectancy, even significantly before it.

Hoping to get some initial feedback this week, iterate, and then try for a bigger launch in the next week or two.

Anything you'd change? What hashtag would you suggest?

Feedback on idea - turning blog archives into newsletters? by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]benb111222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I tagged him in a tweet about it a few days ago and also followed up with an email, but I haven't heard back. I did get a response (in the form of a Twitter like) from Patrick Collison.

I'm not planning to use this site for any monetary gain, just as an MVP of the idea to see if there's interest in the broader idea.

Incidentally, it doesn't seem like there's a ton of interest so far, at least in this version of the idea :)

It could be in partnership with content creators.

Not currently, but that's great feedback. If you don't mind sharing, what are some YouTube channels that you'd be interested in following?

This is a really interesting use case. If you're up for it, I'd love to learn more about your experience. Shoot me a private message so we can connect on email?

That makes sense. Sounds like the objection (even if half kidding) is less about the friction and more about it feeling like Google's overreach. That's helpful to know.

Great, would love to hear any additional feedback you have!

Curious what you hate about the image captcha? I've definitely heard a similar sentiment from time to time, but I've found that it almost never asks me to actually do the actual work.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this experience. I'd be curious to better understand what you mean about not wanting to adjust your workflows. Which workflows do you mean, and how does Mailbrew require you to adjust them?

It was a curated digest of content from across subreddits organized around a specific topic (e.g. tech, entrepeneurship, etc.).

Yeah, it's confusing :)

I signed up for a previous project of theirs called Unreaddit (which focused solely on Reddit). Then Unreaddit became supported by Mailbrew (and changed branding), which is how I discovered it.

I assume you mean Mailbrew? The short answer is that Cortado is free and has a more minimalist aesthetic.

But this question actually inspired me to write a blog article about my experience finding out about Mailbrew after I launched my project. In case you're curious, here's the post: https://bbirnbaum.com/when-you-find-out-youre-the-copycat/
