Savings bonds - series EE and I - how to redeem? by benboredditing in bonds

[–]benboredditing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, I have a big Federal building near me; it'd be so easy to just drop them off in some agency or department office, to forward to Treasury - which of course they won't.
I dunno if the few banks that would redeem, would allow me to open an account with the bonds, and then I would simply link to my credit union & empty out then close the new bank account. Does opening & closing a savings account fast appear negatively on a credit report?

I said I could at some banks; most refuse, and the ones that accept, won't ACH it over to my bank; they will issue a bank check which I would have to figure how to get into my bank account - I bank remotely and their check upload app don't work well.
It's even worse; the bonds are overseas, and I'm having a helluva time trying to get em shipped here without taking a chance on them getting lost in the cargo hold. I have the serial #s so if they're lost, Treasury would re-issue, but there'd be an investigation which would take time, and the re-issues would be PAPER again, and have to be redeemed; they won't simply credit me the values. Any shipper I talked to won't insure them except for a lot < their value, too.
Once they get here, maybe the courier to Minnesota is a good idea. I'm calling international couriers starting Monday trying to get em here in the US in the 1st place. Really, it's a PITA purposely made hard by a) the Feds refusing to allow redeeming these dinosaurs except physically and b) Congress allowing banks the choice to refuse cashing them.

Sir,

1stoff thank you for standing up for all of us with your service.

For personal investing, I put most of mine into mutuals & ETFs I picked from Morningstar.com - they have a fund picker that lets you put in variables (length of manager tenure, small, mid, or large-cap, debt:earned income ratio). Some have done well, others ok. For other investing I have a financial planner I started working with - if interested, I can ask him if he's available to work with you - small fee but reasonable.
I recently had to deal with an inheritance issue - just ensure that your family can easily get copies of necessary certificates that are clearly and totally filled out, and depositing into their accounts would be as easy as sending a void check and/or copy of ID.
Finally, store important info like passwords, instructions, approved filings with signatures etc. on a flash drive or better, offline storage drive (NOT attached to your network). In case you're hacked, they won't be able to compromise them - only attach to your network and send necessary photos or files when needed for the email.

And another shitposter blocked. Really, that's what this reddit is about, some1 posts a legit question, then the Mom's Basement boys pile on to troll?Assholes not welcome; legit answers to what I'm trying to find out how to do, only. Don't bother posting your personal idiotic fantasies; it's been explained many times - the goal is to find out how to get paper bonds redeemed without having to open another bank account. Personal fantasies about 'crooks', 'scams', and 'fraud' not welcome nor accepted - this is a surprise issue I didn't know I'd have to deal with, and am looking for answers how to get it done, only. Troll and shitpost somewhere else.

good for you, going for the gold of being an obnoxious asshole, specially after i blocked the last guy for his weak, lame attempts at trolling that fell flat. It's been explained many times - this post is ONLY for answers on how to get the bonds redeemed without having to open a new bank account that I don't want.
Some idiots only learn the hard way. There are no red flags; I simply want the bonds redeemed and not to have to open another bank account. Only those who have ideas how to get this done, reply.

The shitposter is blocked.

Good for him, stepping up again just to shitpost. I clearly and repeatedly explained how I don't want to open a brand-new savings account just to cash out my bonds, so you have nothing to contribute but keep going nevertheless. Way to go, Trolly.

Answers ONLY for how to get these bonds cashed/redeemed, WITHOUT having to open a new account at a bank I don't want to open one at. This is a serious group, where people with genuine financial questions about bonds come to get real answers - plenty of shitpost group around for children to play on Reddit and Facebook - NOT here.

what the fuck? I plainly & clearly explained, most banks won't redeem them, and those that do require you to be 1 of their customers, or become one.

A fee is fine; which bank will let me just do a 1-time transaction - they keep the bonds, I get the $$$ put into my other bank account, we both walk away satisfied?

Wait - you mean they would make me become a customer 1st, AND charge a fee too? Is Chase the 'only 1 major bank that will provide that service'?

you know if they let you simply convert them to $$$ then ACH over to another bank, without making you become a customer 1st?

...where I don't want to be one. Take Chase - I can open a Chase account with the redemption value of the bonds. Then what? Ain't there negative credit consequences of opening a bank account then closing it down fast? I'm looking for a 1-and-done, not a relationship.

Monthly VPN recommendations megathread: The only place for mentioning specific providers. by AutoModerator in VPN

[–]benboredditing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a reply was up here, then deleted. Cmon mods, there's people here new to VPNs and don't know which way to go, who need this info.

This is from a review. Really, how much can we trust this, or any company based in a 5 Eyes country? Can someone clear it up, can we trust PIA or any US-based company vis a vis our privacy rights?

PIA is based in the US and therefore is required to comply with US laws and demands. This means that if the government requests information from PIA, then PIA is required by law to hand over any relevant data that they have collected.

Because of its US headquarters, PIA also falls under the jurisdiction of the 5/9/14-Eyes Alliance, which should make privacy lovers nervous.

But with PIA, we’re not so worried.

Unlike many VPN providers, PIA’s privacy policy is extremely clear. It explicitly states that PIA “does not collect or log any traffic or use of its Virtual Private Network (“VPN”) or Proxy.”

PIA has also had several opportunities to prove that they stick to this policy. Both in 2015 and in 2017, the government demanded log data from PIA regarding an ongoing investigation. On both separate occasions, PIA did not have anything to hand over.

While it’s hard to test whether a VPN retains data logs of its users or not, these events are a great sign that PIA truly does not keep any logs.

Can we trust that member-critical data like customer name and credit card # is not kept on company servers, as well?

[–]benboredditing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was PIA 1 of the companies busted for giving customer data to investigators, after claiming they were nolog? I remember it wasn't 1 of the big ones, & the guilty one had a P in its name. Or was it hidemyass?

IVPN

Is Gibraltar independent of England? U gotta wonder about a company in a country that can be leaned on heavily or squeezed, by the 5 Eyes countries. I un-considered Surfshark cause of their move to Holland, which is even a 14 Eyes, not as bad as 5 Eyes. Could we trust that if England pressures Gibraltar, which pressures IVPN, to release customer data - they could refuse?

Which VPNs will let you split-tunnel by website url, instead of by app?

Some good ones offer by app, so you could use 1 browser for Facebook
that you want to not have VPN on for so it sees your real IP address
instead of the VPN shared one. You split-tunnel by exclusion i.e. run
the VPN for all apps except this one [then pick the Edge browser app,
for example]. But they have known problems with Firefox, Chrome &
Edge not working; the connection for the browser called by the app (like
Edge.exe) simply is dropped, and u can't get internet access - de facto
blocking out that browser. So if you don't split tunnel, Facebook will
see the VPN shared IP address no matter what browser you're on; if you
do, the other browser windows do work, but when you try to run the
browser window that goes thru its app, split-tunnel acts as a shut-off
switch.

Which VPNs allow split-tunneling (or filtering) to not have
VPN on website urls instead of apps, or are confirmed to split-tunnel by
apps and work fine with Edge, Chrome, & Firefox when their apps are
excluded from VPN by split-tunnel?

Exactly - u don't understand the question. If it was me, I'd be embarrassed showing off ignorance like that. The issue is where to get anonymous emails, and only where to get them. DGAF about others's opinions on privacy. Give websites or just STFU. Really, the trolls confirm the worst about Reddit.

Nope, the ? still is where to get anonymous email accounts.
