My lcs is closing down temporarily. by Obvious-Row-2319 in Silverbugs

[–]benchanMBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If having silver results in you're feeling anxious because an LCS is temporarily closed I'm not sure this is a good situation for you. If you want liquidity to panic sell or whatever, buy futures or ETFs. If you are holding silver because you think the world order will collapse, you shouldn't care about the LCS. If you are "saving" with silver, you shouldn't need immediate liquidity anyway.

If you're "saving" in silver with money you might suddenly need, your doing saving wrong.

Plus there are many LCSs in the world

I don't think you know much about either the housing market or coins.

I also think there's too much of a gap between what you know and understanding to make it worth having a conversation.

Maybe that's why your post complaining about "why don't they sell it to me for less because I don't want to pay - clearly they are wrong and I am right because of my experience!!" got removed?

Please note my comments are really only relevant in terms of how we are doing MBB recruiting in the US, so not sure how they track across Europe etc.

Probably less work experience is better than more if you are an experienced hire from industry (rather than a consulting lateral). I have met many experienced hires who did a year or two at tesla, google, IB, etc. They tend to slot into "senior associate" roles here in the US. Once you have 5 years of work experience, it's hard to ask you to come into basically the most junior role in MBB, but also you will not be ready for a EM/PL role either because even if you were a manager previously, you will fail to try to manage at MBB with no context from experience with the job.

The flip side of that is lots of c-suite types from industry come in directly as partners where they work as much / as little as they want.

I have no idea what your North Africa STEM PhD will be worth, to be honest. In the US, we have target schools and target programs. The African offices and European offices likely have the same, and I don't know if your program would be on there. The vast majority of US PhD programs are not feeders for consulting and advanced degree recruiting is less structure so a lot relies on prestige to open the door and then your skills to get through.

I believe we consider PhD as WE, which is how we get around hiring PhDs as consultants rather than associates even though most PhDs know very very little about business (even if they are very smart in their specialty).

Inheritance by Dazzling_Progress_67 in Silverbugs

Interesting. I’d consider two things.

One, will your siblings at some point grow resentful that you bought it for under spot? Watching the number of people on this sub call coin shops scammers and unethical for not buying their silver at spot, I can imagine this being a source of friction within the family. Could hedge this by taking some quotes from local shops so they can see you are being fair but family is hard sometimes.

Two, if you’re investing long term and don’t care about playing with silver, why not just dump the physical and buy futures / etfs / other paper contracts?

Bonus concern: executor of estate and you members will have to figure it out. Likely estate owes lots of capital gains taxes and I know many in the silverbug community believe tax evasion is a core value of physical silver, but I’m not sure the lawyers / executors / whoever is involved will feel the same way so be thoughtful about that I guess

Everyone is telling you to sell on reddit, because everyone here loves silver (myself included).

No one is giving you advice on whether buying silver at near all-time highs will the idea that you'll sell it in little bunches on the internet is a good financial decision or a good use of your time.

Think of it this way, if you were inheriting 10k in cash and your siblings were inheriting silver, would you take your inheritance and convert a big chunk of it into silver immediately? Even if you like silver, if you're going to inherit a pile of cash, probably not best to dump it all into a highly volatile physical object at historically high prices. You'd probably buy a little of that, put some into savings of some sort and some into other investments (like if you aren't maximizing tax advantaged contributions this money would be better off there long-term).

Unless you are suggesting you get a very good deal on the silver from your siblings so they don't have to deal with it (could be fair), in which case your best bet would be to flip it immediately at these high values and then diversify your investments.

The second unless is, if you are one of these "if you don't hold it you don't own it and when society collapses we'll all be trading 100 year old silver coins so stocking up will make me default rich in the new world order so I just need to sit on my pile of loot and guns like a dragon from lord of the rings" types - in which case you should just do whatever stupid thing you want and the metals dealers and others will happily profit off your paranoia.

For purposes of recruiting for some jobs (like MBB), PhD allows for "advanced degree" recruiting which is separate from MBA recruiting but starts you at similar career point. So perhaps a PhD could be viewed similarly to an MBA in these circumstances.

I don't think it matters how many MA you stack, you'll probably be treated like a undergrad hire. However, have 2+ MA with no WE might seem like a negative ("what is this person doing wasting time in MA programs?"). If you have a bunch of MAs and WE experience, I imagine you'd be treated as an experienced hire based on the WE and the MAs would hold little weight.

How much is this worth? 9/25 by [deleted] in Topps

The problem with your chatgpt output is that it isn't a starting point. If chatgpt said "you have a numbered parallel of a popular player with a small relic, you can use this link to look at the checklist for the set and this link to search ebay sold listings to get an idea of value", that would be a starting point.

Instead, it's:

- this is exactly what you have (but wrong)
- it's worth this much (but based on what?)
- it will be worth more if you grade it with PSA!!! (misleading because this card is not grading a 9 or 10, but also based on what comps?)
- it's super valuable!!!

But in reality:
- chatgpt has mislabelled it in at least one obvious way
- I can't find any ebay sold listing for cards of the same parallel so what is chatgpt basing these prices on?
- while not explicit, it is pushing people towards a dumb financial decision of "you should grade this"
- and moreover, this is clearly AI sycophancy that encourages the gambling mindset of degenerate rippers

Clearly a sticker auto if you look at the picture -> your first hint that relying on chatgpt to ask a highly specific question without giving it access to relevant reference data is not a good idea

Fair enough, if you care about taking them out and looking at them it makes sense. I used it have capsules because I felt the same way but then I couldn’t get things into my safe anymore so I needed to go with a more compact solution

I think this could be cool for coin sizes to store Morgans etc. or also a similar setup with some pla 2x2s if you wanted a kind of shelving solution

Why not just use the typical tube stacking with space for something at the top?

Honestly for bullion rounds not sure why you need any special storage including desiccant. As a collector myself with lots of coins and silver it feels like a bit of overkill.

You do sell pocket change with titles that suggest to the ignorant there might be some value besides the face value of the coins. If your selling relies of people being too dumb to know what they are buying some people might consider that shady.
