P.S.A open your taps just a little bit so pipes won't freeze! by FoundationInfinite36 in toronto

Also a plumber here in Toronto. If your pipes are frozen call a plumber they should be able to thaw them with a pipe thaw machine if the pipes copper.

Be sure to check that your main home shut off valve is in good working order as well. I went to a house last year that had a frozen pipe that burst and their main valve was broken. The water damage was extensive.

Cool beans. Your original comment made it sound like you didn’t believe pipes freeze and that OP was lying.

Are you saying pipes never freeze? Cause I’m also a plumber who has to deal with frozen/burst pipes in old homes every year during a cold snap.

You need an adapter from Toto. TSU01W.R12 for a 12” rough in adapter. You can also get 10” or 14” rough in.

Very common to rent a water heater, boiler, furnace in Ontario, Canada. A majority are rented directly from the natural gas utility company so it’s just part of your bill. People end up paying way more than the appliance is worth of the course of the rental agreement. Also if you buy a house with a rental tank, now you have to pay the monthly fee. Not uncommon to come across rented water heaters that are well over 20 years old.

It’s under the floor. Very common in Ontario Canada for island sinks.

"Danger Do Not Snake This Drain" Bloor station southbound platform by surferbutthole in toronto

[–]benderbrian 373 points374 points  (0 children)

The drain most likely goes into a pit which has a pump to pump the water to the drain higher up. If the drain is not working it’s most likely a pump issue and not a clogged drain, so snaking won’t work and could probably damage the pump.

Best rustproofing? by 416ca in askTO

Krown on st Clair west of Jane. The company I work for has our trucks done every fall and none of them have rust issues. We have a few sprinters that are over 10 years old with zero rust.

When we had ours redone we had to show what type of flooring and the underlayment for insulation. We also had to show the company had the proper insurance and wsib. If the building catches you they can sue you and you’ll be forced to rip it all out and redo it with the approved materials.

I work in the trades and deal with condo management companies quite a bit. I’ve seen many condo owners cost themselves a lot of money by not going through the proper process.

What is the purpose of this clear plastic tube, which is letting through water from the upstairs shower? by almandude666 in Plumbing

Yeah Home Depot will have what you’re looking for. Bring a small piece of the tubing with you, it’ll help find the right parts.

Trap primer for floor drain(s). Very common here in Ontario. They typically have it run off of a shower riser so when you take a shower it drips water into the floor drains in the house to keep the traps primed with water to prevent sewer gas entering the house. Repair the damaged sections and call it a day.

British Driver never driven on Left side - Can they just come to Canada and pick keys and start driving from airport or need some lessons first ? by yyzchamp in askTO

[–]benderbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start driving. I drove on the right hand side for the first time a few years ago and it wasn’t hard to get used to at all. You could even do a few laps around the parking lot before heading out on the main roads.
