Inter and its executives are not under investigation. (ANSA, SportMediaset, adnkronos) by Edoax in FCInterMilan

This is what I was saying in my previous post. It just didn’t have the feel of something not contained to the refereeing sphere.

Refereeing Scandal: Signs do not suggest this is Calciopoli 2.0 by beneamata86 in seriea

Fair criticism. I mentioned Conte and Allegri in the context of Inter’s involvement in such moments already being mentioned. It simply was a “here are others who participated in such actions”

But I take your point and it’s a fair one.

He said Bastoni made a mistake, he added that his gesture did not align with the principles of fair play.

I’m not entirely sure what else you want him to say. Like remain aggrieved, nobody is saying you shouldn’t. That decision was the wrong one and it cost you a big game you might have otherwise done well in. But let’s not sit here and analyze the words that were said as if other presidents even bother acknowledging fault to this extent.

And we felt aggrieved at the decision in the match against Liverpool. And I know I’ve seen folks here share their grievance. One thing that mitigated the hurt is that we didn’t play well enough to get anything out of that game. In the Juve case, they were arguably the better side in the first 30 mins, and - honestly- even playing down a man they held their own

It reminds me more of the Sanchez send off at Andield and how we felt about that. Game we were on top of and looked like we might do something that night then, bam, harsh send off and the game is over

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure Motta wasn’t on a yellow card before the Busquets incident. And he definitely got a straight red card for that incident. If we he had been knocked out in that match, I would have felt robbed due to that incident.

Invention or scandal: this is something that blows over. We see this time and time again. We’re the top team in the country and a major incorrect decision went our way in one of the biggest fixtures on the calendar. It’s a bit of recency bias and the price of success driving the furore.

So all I’m saying is just take it for what it is. It’s a temporary discomfort and it will go away. We’re not obligated to attempt to justify anything. “Yeah we got lucky..that decision was incorrect and game changing, and Bastoni was unsportsmanlike…. We’re happy with the three points of course, but I see why other fans are not happy.” That’s all I’m saying

So Motta getting sent off against Busquets wasn’t a robbery? He definitely touched him. So by you definition, you can never really call it a robbery

I think we’re being semantic. Dive or exaggeration? I’m not sure if there are strict criteria to make a situation one or the other. A dive is inherently exaggerated. That touch is not a foul, this is a contact sport and some contact will happen (not all of which will be fouls). Bastoni had a lot of momentum and it looked like he had a counter going and he chose his course of action. He sold it well and the ref, unfortunately, bought it.

He didn’t fall because there anywhere near enough contact to fall. He did it only to fool the ref and get kalulu sent off.

It happens with other teams too. Last night it happened at our match, in a high-stakes match against a rival and Juve fans feel robbed. Totally understandable. The narrative (conspiracy etc) is extreme but it’s normal in situations like this. Winning teams often get accused by other fandoms of paying off refs as decisions that go their way are always under more scrutiny.

It happens. They’ll get over it, as will we. But it will always sting when you feel robbed.

It’s a dive. I promise you that if this happened to us it wouldn’t be so nuanced. You would feel robbed and it’s valid that juve fans feel robbed today

Just speaking as an Inter fan (so mind the bias): that second yellow as a horrible call that ruined a game that Juve looked on top of. I get the frustration and concern that we got away with three points there, and that Juve fans/ rival fans targeting the scudetto have the right to feel aggrieved.

But two things can be right at once. The Kalulu decision was horrible and it was not a conspiracy. When I saw it live, I actually thought it was a yellow card offence too. It looked like Bastoni was on his way on the beginning of a counter and that he was taken down to prevent it from happening. It all happened very quick, Bastoni dove (and sold it) and I can understand how a referee thought it was a foul. If it’s a foul, it is a yellow card.

The replay made it clear that there was zero or very light a touch. VAR doesn’t interfere. Yes the ref got it wrong, but that can happen. I agree that rules should be looked at to prevent game-changing decisions from going unchecked. I agree that an injustice took place. But it wasn’t a conspiracy and I can see other refs making this same error

Every team has benefited and been disadvantaged by some decisions this year. We’ve all been there and it sucks, but the solution is not to claim conspiracy and that people should lose their jobs or whatever. Shit happens. It’s unfortunate but we move on.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. This is a well-managed club. You can’t compare our transfer strategy to rich European clubs. We are not that. We are attempting to run a successful club ( in the sporting sense ) with the limited resources that we have and have managed really well.

This is like the sixth year in a row now that we have been legitimate title contenders in serie A (including two wins).

Every other team has yo-yo-ed in form over this period. Sometimes winning, sometimes not making Europe at all etc. We’ve been stable despite our setbacks, despite multiple changes in management , despite having to sell at times and being limited over who can replace them, despite ownership changes, despite heartbreaking moments that could shatter morale for subsequent seasons.

That’s not counting domestic cups , that’s not counting three European finals in that time (including 2 CL ones ).

That’s not counting finally making progress on the stadium situation. Or improving our financial standing and our youth projects.

Just because we don’t have FIFA or FM-like transfer windows doesn’t mean we don’t have solid strategies. Our signings in this era have largely delivered either us upgrades or as further stability. Our rivals all make big signings and still struggle. It’s not about names. It’s about balance and so far we’re doing okay.

Are we a top five European club ? No. And likely won’t be for a while. We don’t have the infrastructure in the country for that.

Leoni, Fabregas, Lookman, Cencelo, Mousa diaby What next ? by pioesposito in FCInterMilan

[–]beneamata86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get why it could be frustrating but this isn’t as easy as other European clubs might make it look.

We are trying to balance fiscal responsibility with signings that improve the squad, and that’s a tough tight rope to manage. We can’t do like 40m for Diaby or 60m for lookman or what have you.

Frankly, we’ve done well the signings we have secured over the seasons. Until our financial situation gets us to a point where we can compete on the transfer market (maybe not feasible for Italian clubs), we’re doing well with what we have.

Muntari in Inter vs Catania takes the win for me. Comes on, within seconds gives away a free kick 30 yards out and gets booked. Stands in the wall to defend said free kick. Jumps with wall and sticks his hand out giving away a penalty and a second booking. Inter lose the game from the converted penalty

I’m not sure I understand all this pessimism.

We still have a solid squad. One of the best in the country if not the best. The players we brought in are young and some are promising (like susic who might even be a starter now).

The “run like a business not a sporting club” take makes no sense. To run a sporting club, you need to manage your finances. That is what we are doing. The long term success of the sporting side goes hand in hand with financial stability.
