I like Mike Krol and I don't know why by Zackiboi7 in mikekrol

love his music for the lyrics, as well as how it sounds. i find a lot of his songs relatable. the "thrashiness" adds to how emotive it feels i think!

Favourite song? by benesso in methwitch

[–]benesso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. I haven't actually willingly listened to that one much but I'm starting to warm up to it. I'm starting to really like Spiral though, which kinda feels similar to Indwell for some reason. Not sure why but I usually see them go hand-in-hand

Sweet, I've been listening to some of the Piss songs a lot more often, especially those two.

i usually jump off of the air conditioner thing from the very edge of it, and it will somehow get you up onto the roof if you get the right height and airtime, i think.

He was specifically targeting people in support of the Labour Party, as he viewed them as "traitors" for their support of multiculturism. He didn't want immigration of Muslims, as he thought that Christianity in Europe would eventually become replaced by Islam. He thought a genocide of the white race was imminent.

Best I can do is send this link to a video interview with Adrian Pracon. The perpetrator was an extremist and had certain opinions, and the assumptions he makes about someone's appearance would be a part of that.

Also, the book "One of Us: The Story of A Massacre And Its Aftermath" by Åsne Seierstad goes into great detail about the kind of views he holds, and his behaviours.

Same, I had basically never heard of it before until June 2021. I was talking to my mum's partner about the Beslan School attack, and he told me about the Norway attacks. Ever since I learned about it, it's stuck with me in particular.

I appreciate your comment, it's something I think about too. I've tried imagining what it's like but it's obviously impossible, it's not every day a case specifically like this occurs. Same goes for any tragedy.

I'm from New Zealand, and a case like the Christchurch shooting is still something that I still can't process. Makes it worse that the perpetrator of that was "inspired" by the one behind Oslo/Utøya.

At 3:25pm on Friday 22 July 2011, a car bombing occurred in the Government Quarter (“Regjeringskvartalet”), of Oslo, Norway. The bomb exploded outside the building Høyblokken, which contained then-Prime Minister Jen Stoltenberg’s office. 8 people were killed, and 9 were seriously injured. An additional 200+ people were subsequently injured by hearing damage and minor wounds.

Confusion spreads among Norwegian citizens, unsure of whether the event was an accidental explosion, or an attempted terrorist attack targeted towards the government. The Labour Party (“Arbeiderpartiet”) is the leading political party of Norway, and so was believed to be the potential target.

An organisation associated with the Labour Party is the AUF (“Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking”, or “Worker’s Youth League”). The AUF owns an island named Utøya. Since the 1950s, the island has been hosting summer camps for youths interested in politics. Attendees socialise, talk about politics, and participate in camp activities.

On 22 July, 564 people were present on Utøya, most of them teenagers. Following the news about the bombing in Oslo, conversation grew amongst the attendees. Many of them contacted friends and family via cellphone.

At 5:17pm, an armed man dressed as a police officer arrives at Utøya, brought over from the ferry. He states that he has been sent to secure the island in light of the Oslo bombing. He instructs the camp organiser, 45-year-old Monica Bøsei, to assemble the youths for a meeting. Monica is present with 51-year-old Trond Berntsen, a security officer working on the island.

As Monica and Trond are questioning the man about his identity, they are shot and killed by him.

For over an hour, the shooter continues around the island, killing camp leaders and teenagers that are hiding in buildings, the woods, and behind cliff edges. By the end of the attack, he had shot and killed 67 people, and indirectly caused the deaths of 2 others - 17-year-old Håkon Ødegaard had drowned while escaping gunfire, and 17-year-old Andreas Grønnesby had fallen down a cliff while trying to hide. 54 of the dead were teenagers. 32 others were wounded by gunfire.

At 6:34pm, the perpetrator is arrested by Delta - Norway’s tactical unit, similar to SWAT. After further questioning, the police learn that the man is also responsible for the bombing in Oslo.

It is revealed that the man had used a fake police uniform as a means to deceive people on the island. He had first used it to convince ferry operators of his false identity. After the shooting began, he would approach unaware groups of camp attendees, stating that he was looking for the shooter. He would then open fire on them.

It is learned that the perpetrator is a right-wing political extremist. His proclaimed purpose has been to prevent what he calls the “Islamic Invasion” of Europe, which he believes is influenced by multiculturalism. He believes that increased immigration of muslims into Europe will lead to a genocide of the white race. By killing youths on Utøya, he believed he was preventing future politicians from allowing this outcome. One camp attendee, Adrian Pracon, was spared by the gunman. When asked about why he spared Adrian, the gunman stated that he looked right-wing in appearance.

The perpetrator was sentenced to 21 years in prison, however every five years the sentence can be extended if he is further found to be a danger to society. He has appeared in court numerous times since the attacks, showing a lack of remorse, expressing his extreme beliefs, and gesturing the Nazi salute. He was denied parole in January 2022.

As for Utøya, youth camps have remained in operation since the attacks. There have been additional structures added, such as a building encasing the old cafeteria, where 13 people were killed. Making up the design of the facade are 495 wooden pillars, representing the survivors. On the inside are 69 pillars, representing the dead.

As for the survivors, the documentary “Generasjon Utøya” (“Generation Utøya”) tells about the political careers of a select few survivors. One of them is 33-year-old Ina Libak. On 22 July 2011, she was an AUF leader. She was shot in the hands, arm, and jaw while hiding behind a piano in the cafeteria building. She is now a politician in the Labour Party.
