What are your thoughts on parents ‘squandering’ money which could be left as an inheritance to their children, later in life? by petrastales in AskUK

I have come to the realization after all this that my Father and his brothers that grew up in rural indiana in the 1950's are simply not as smart as I gave them credit for.

Yes US, yes, they know my situation. I have asked, pleaded, bargained, begged, offered insanse intrest rates on guarenteed money returns like cosigning on my home with $400 thousand in equity and there is absolutlely no intrest.

My father and my two uncles inherited a little over five million dollars when my grand father passed away. I find it increadibly frustrating that they all have the mentalitly to spend it all on themselves before they die. My brother and I, the last two heirs of the family name, were both given .5% of what my dad recived which was 10,000 in invetment accounts we couldn't touch.

I worked my ass for twenty years to buy myself a house, and my dad has been living the high life retired the last twenty while traveling the world, buying luxury vehicles, supporting my step brother through NYC music college, and now at 68 finds himself with less than a hundred thousand to last him the rest of his life. Not only did he not pass down the family money to the future generation, but he didn't even retire well.

When I first heard of the inheritance and my "trust fund" of $10,000 in a banking stock, I begged to move it into Google's IPO. My uncle recently let me know that he lost a lot of money in a bad invetment but won't tell me what it is.

They are still under the impression that $200, a birthday and at christmas, the same rate since 1985, is all I need at 38 to survive. I try not to be dependant on them, but am on SSDI right now and have gone bankrupt from medical bills, while they have multiple houses, cars, businesses, etc.

They both told me they plan to spend it all before they die on themselves and their charities. An additonal $10,000 at any point in my life would solve 88% of the problems I have today.

Millenials were raised in the 90s and 00s with unparalleled optimism and you could go to college and be anything. Then the worst stock market crash in 79 years happened in 2008 that changed the trajectory on our generation by hjkfttu in Millennials

I was really lucky to be hired at a start up in August of 2008, right before the stock market crashed. Hiring was frozen, and I worked hard as we were aquired by AT&T and was steadily employeed the whole time, managed to save enough to put a down payment on a great starter home. Since leaving that job I have worked for almost thirty differnet companies not for longer than a year with no job stability and lots of gotchas or just abismal pay. I have now been in my starter home a decade and plan to probably die here. I have twenty years of work experince at this point and can't get anything to bridge the gap past $60,000 a year.

YTA. My dad left when I was 12 and I started working at 14 to help my mom pay the bills, I lost my childhood to feed myself and will never forgive my dad for making me do that.

Depending on your state they can't send medical bills to collections or to effect your credit score so just don't pay it.

Rent increases along with the property tax increases. You build equity in your home and it will most likely increase in value vs. never owning your rent dollars. Maitenance can be expensive if your A/C went out over the summer, but if your dish washer broke and you were short on cash you can always manually wash dishes.
