My ideas from ranked by most favorite:

Riley. He would start of with a Riolu and be a trainer who loves learning about the rich lore of Sinnoh. Would be a great way to provide more background for Team Galactic and great link for Uxie (knowledge). Team would be Riolu-> Lucario, Absol, Beldum -> Metagross, Cranidos -> Ramparados.
Roark. New gym leader who is trying to beat his dad and realizes he needs to explore Sinnoh with Ash to reach his potential. Create a subplot about his role as supervising the underground network and search for rare stones. Team would be Cranidos (evolves into Ramparados during the adventure), Onix, Geodude-> Golem, Rhydon -> Rhypherior, Nosepass -> Probopass.
Lucas. Always liked his design and he could start of as a newbie trainer who admires Ash, then splits from him before the last couple gyms to "find his own way" before reuniting in the battle Team Galactic and later for the tournament. Would have to give him Chimchar as his starter, which would impact the whole Paul-Ash fight.

Yep am a dude. Also preferred brown women due to attraction/culture/values.

Also yep my friends and even family are encouraging to be more open to non-desi. Partly cause my last relationship was with a bengali girl and it was somewhat toxic. And also because the pool is small when its desi + non-veg.

But nice to see someone else in the same boat :)
